I have always loved hunters, but I do not like Elfs and what I have heard it is best to go Elf as hunter, my question is: If I choose to be a man hunter, I will be pwned by an Elf so easly? is it really such a big difference?

Anyone else feel the same? :(

Elves get an agility boost which makes a difference in early game, but not later. Elves also get a racial trait +2% Elf Bow Damage.

Men get a racial heal trait which can be a life saver.

The bottom line is go with the race you fancy playing.

Hello, and welcome to Lotro!

First of all, you will not be pwned by an elf unless you want to spar (and the chances for wining are 50/50 if we take a spar between a HNT man and a HNT elf).

All races have advantages and disadvantages, but in the end game these "traits" will not make too much of a difference, you will not be rejected from a fellowship because you are a man hunter and another elf hunter wants to join. your skill as a player is more important than the race you decide to play in the beginning.

Man have a self heal racial trait (correct me if I am wrong, elf lover in here, don't know much about other races traits) and elves have "eldar grace" a skill that gives you 75% parry rating buff for 10 seconds (long cooldown though). Also, elves have a nice +2% bow damage that might be useful if you decide to go for an elf hunter.

There is no ideal race for one class, so it's mostly your option, it's more important to have fun while playing and enjoying your character than taking all those ideas about "elves being better than dwarfs, man being better than hobbits" and such...

So in the end it's mostly your decision :)

Enjoy!

how much damage is the difference in those 2 percent?:(

Not much, but might be important in the long fights... I still believe that you should decide on a race that suits your style the most :)

2% bow damage is quite insignificant if you don't like elf race, so don't take decisions that you will regret later :)

Just like scappy said, these traits are important in the beginning, but when you'll be at cap your skill as a player will be the most important...

In order of preference because of racials:-
Man
Dwarf
Elf
Hobbit

In order of preference for RP fun (being different):-
hobbit
dwarf
man
elf

In order of preference raid (dps);-
elf
man
dwarf
hobbit

in order of preference solo (survieability);-
Man
Dwarf
elf
hobbit

sooo.
Man (that 3k heal is a life saver)
Dwarf (there racial evade is really useful especially in bow and blade)
Elf (actually the stelth is a better racial :P )
Hobbit

I don't think you are right, but I may be biased so I'll leave it like this... Regarding RP, I have to disagree, how can an elf be at the bottom of that list? I cannot imagine any RP immersion in Lothlorien or Rivendell when playing as a man, hobbit, or even worse, dwarf... And if we take the hunter class into consideration, woods and open spaces are not dwarf/hobbit friendly, I don't know, it's my opinion, I've told you from the beginning that I may be biased :D

The man racial heal is indeed a life savior though :)

Just note that the Elven race trait: +2% bow damage never worked in SoA and it's not certain to work in MoM. I haven't seen any tests yet.

And you're telling me now?! :P
Aww... never known that :(

Then, go for man, I guess...

Well it might have been fixed. I'm just saying it didn't work in SoA.

If you equip it, the skill tooltip doesn't update. But as to whether it is actually working the debate is open. It is another of those little things that people have asked about time and time again and never had a Dev response/fix.

I play a dwarf hunter and I'm very happy with it! (I'm also very happy to feel pretty unique, as i almost never meet other dwarf hunters :) )
As for the racials, well we have increased (by a small amount of course, like all racials) ICPR and ICMR. We have more vitality and common mitigation. In fellowships we can contribute by having bonuses to damage with red and yellow conjunctions and the dwarf endurance gives a short time moralebuff to everyone.
And then there's the endurance of stone of course, which makes us virtually immune to most damage for ten seconds, and is a lifesaver at times.
The lost fate we get (8) we get back when we get the fatefull dwarf, which gives us 20 fate, so we're stuck with the disadvantage of -8 agility. Though agility is the most important stat for a hunter, this is also, in my oppinion, the easiest one to compensate for. I have never had any problems with it.
As I said, I love being a Dwarf hunter :)

(P.S I think Thorins Gate is definately the most exciting and fun area to start levelling up in too, if that matters any)

I do love Ered Luin. I'm sure I'll love it more now it's been revamped.

Having said that, once you're done with the intro you can travel to any of the starting areas for a mere 1 silver, so it's a moot point. :)

...or, y'know, if you play well, you're not a huntard. By definition. Playing a dwarf hunter does not make you play better. Playing an Elf doesn't make you play worse.

I tend to find I have more fun with a character who has a concept to him, rather than merely an arrangements of stats. It'll take more than (possibly) 2% more damage to get me to roll an Elf over a Man. :) And you'll be looking at your character for a WHILE, if all goes well, so pick one you have fun with. It won't be the end of the world. Honest. :)

Tut tut tut... and what do you think "feign death" is?
Something went wrong on that pull? Reset and think about it again. Or start agein with less mobs this time.

Hobbit hunter is the way to go. :)

Compared with our racial "life savior" trait - eldar grace, human racial healing is much better. Same goes for hobbit feign death. You missed my point, I was talking from an Elf point of view. :P

Dwarf hunters ftw elfs are lame mofos who think their legolas and are mostly the huntards on the server everyone hates.

Again, this guy. You have no respect for us as a community and yet, I found another brilliant post of yours offending players that for some reasons have chosen to play elf. Thanks for letting us know you love your dwarf so much, but keep your opinions for yourself if you don't know how to say things without offending others.

I am playing an elf, because I like it, It's my favorite race in the whole fantasy literature I have ever read. So please mister dwarf lover, please show some respect or take some practice at stating your opinions.

Btw, I am pretty sure I know to play my class, so I guess you failed again. Btw, it doesn't matter what race you play. In relations with other people, the way you react and the way you speak have a greater value that any skills/racial traits or whatever.

If u want to be original and different and have respect without being a huntard then dwarf hunter is ur char.

And really, do you expect me to respect you after this affirmation..? Just because you're a dwarf? pheh..

Indeed .. Dwarf hunter is the best -- and that's before even considering Agility, morale, power, class-traits, Fate, and all those other unimportant stats :)

Dwarf first, Hunter second.

They look quite similar with man at one point. If you don't like elf ears, you can hide them under a hooded cloak.

There were some screenies with elf hunters, or you can have a look in the elf section of this forum.

Well, there are a lot of reasons for this, but I can tell you one thing, each race have it's good points and weak points... You just need to pick one you think will suit you the most... You've read other players replies, you know the advantages and disadvantages..

Now back to the "allhuntersareelves" matter, lots of people are Legolas wannabe, other are simply enjoying the race for lore and implicit RP, class having a secondary role in here, purposes, and other reasons: for example, I picked an elf because I thought it fits my personality) I cannot imagine myself playing a dwarf hunter, it's not like I don't like the visuals, or the racial traits.. Same goes for man and for hobbit. I want to feel myself comfortably while playing, I am not one of those people that look at their monitor and see a pile of numbers ("ahh, elves have -20 fate, dwarfs are more resistant, etc, you got my point).

In the end, it's your call, don't let yourself influenced by the others. And again, nobody will ever mock you, or laugh/joke because you have decided to play a hobbit, or a dwarf... If you feel alright, then keep on going, have some fun and enjoy the beautiful parts of this game (play with an eye closed if you have decided to go for hunter, you will see the reason I am telling you this a bit later :P)

Soo if female man is woman why is a female elf not a woelf?

Ahh, course, maybe you picked the blond version with blue eyes :P. That happens mostly if you're wearing a helmet... I can be easily confused with a man, especially when I am wearing hooded cloaks or a coif and they cannot see my ears.:D
