Sorry if this looks like a noob question, could someone explain when is the best to use fire oils and when is the best to use light?

I have noticed that light is good against undead and ancient evil, and fire is good against beasts...

Could someone give more details about this?

Also, what's the best damage to have on your bow (beleriand, ancient dwarf-made, fire, etc)

For weapon dmg I go with the scroll from lothlorien, it gives beleriand dmg and also bonus dmg against orcs.

And for the oils, well I like light oil, on critical hit it gives +10% miss debuff, that helps the tank.
The fire oil puts a damage over time debuff when you score a critical hit.

But consider that if you use oil, the damage type of few our skills will change too. And for example the last boss in Forges have massive reduction for light/fire type of damage, so it is not very wise to use oils there.
Another example is the last boss in Fil gashan. In the 2nd stage when you need to kill fire fist near boss in order to put oil on him and then lure him to trap for fire to take effect. With using fire oil on your weapon you avoid the need to lure him to trap, he will start burning.

hiya,

can i ask: is the only difference between different oil qualities their duration?

ie. i may as well use loads of cheap oils rather than less of the more expensive ones?

cheers

Actually, there is a difference between them, if you buy them from vendor (and that will be hunter trainer) you will get, let's say 50 X 5 minutes light oils for 300 silvers. these 50 oils have a total duration time of 250 minutes, right?

If you buy oils from the AH, let's say you buy 50 x 20 minutes light oils that have a total duration of 1000 minutes and pay 800 silvers for them (you can find them at cheaper prices, this was just an example). Can you see the difference now? You will get a better effect (I mean, better duration) at a lower price.

Just my 2 cents..

fire vs light vs weapon type dmg.. well experience or a lore master can tell you..

Some mobs have better resistance to fire = fire arrows bad choice.
same with light, and ofcourse the many types of wepaon dmg you can get :D

so i say experience teaches you what works best against what, and what not.
and if on a team, and fighting "ALOT" of the same type of mob, you can ask the loremaster, they can "inspect" the enemy's and see their weaknesses.

Some LM are ewen cool enough to just shout out, weak to fire, light, etc etc..

would be nice to have more than just light and fire oil types, would give those scholars some work too.

I can understand no westerness or beleirand (Age etc) but what about lightening (hunters going kazzzackkkkk! :P )? Also i wish hunters could add tactical defense to a class slot item.

Meh... I wish they will undo the nerf... or at least give us back some DPS, or add some functionality/versatility. None of them are going to happen, too much hunters all around, people need to play other classes as well. So let's smash the hunter, make people change their mind (why not, wardens seems to be a nice class, isn't it?). I am curious to see when they will nerf the RK as well, as they look kinda fat to me now. This is Turbine way of fixing things...

Back to the oils, indeed, some mobs have a better resistance to fire, some other are weak to light, some mobs don't require usage of oils (i.e weak to beleriand, or any other type of damage you have on your weapon)
