View Full Version : Problem with aggro?

I was having an instance run with my hunter lately and encountered something strange: on a few bossfights( not in the grand stair, where they have the threat skill immunity) I couldn't keep down my aggro with traited endurance, bow with endurance quick shot threat down legacy and a wind rider tome, using only quick shots with light oil. there was a guardian in threat stance in all the fights with an offtank burglar or champion. I waited them to start the fight and build up their skills 5-10 sec before I started QS run, in every case if not from the beginning but on the 5th shot they were coming after me. It was only after I slotted the whisper draw tome to make the situation better and yet I managed to take aggro with a PS( again with a legacy focus threat down rank 5).

The bosses were: Void-eater at the dark delvings(haven't checked for the other bosses there, cause it took us a while to figure out how to defeat the void eater, and only after I switched my burglar for hunter), all the bosses at the forge were responding in the same way... the minute I touch them with any other skill than quick shot they come after me, quick shot is also aggroing the boss for me after the 5th shot or so... once they warn me I should wait another 20 sec for the tanks to dish out all their threat, so that I can continue with my quick shots...

Is there something I am missing? Open for suggestions and would be happy to read your expert opinions...

Well I had exactly same experience, but that was pre-book 7.
As things are now it should be better, but I have not been in much group instances lately so can't really help you on this one :S

For me, I've been running in Precision through instances, and no aggro-problems at all (Rather dissapointing, because I should run into trouble at times with that stance). Rather the opposite. Sounds like a serious bug anyway.

Same as Scatha, running mostly in Precision now and have even stopped using my 'raid' bow that had most of the threat down legacies on it.

What I have noticed in the 16th Hall ( only one I've run since Book 7 ) is that resists to fear/traps/distracting shot are through the roof. RoT used to be very useful in there in some of the rooms, but every time I used it 3/5 would resist/immune. Every Distracting shot..immune. Bards Arrow..immune. So much for our cc in Fellowships.

No problems with cc in solo play though, just in instances.

Same and I agree, it's rather dissapointing, because S:P should cause thread problems, but it is easy play...ok, at least something, if I cannot outdamage a RK with this stance (WHAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO!)...

Actually find our aggro situation in instances, or anywhere else in Book 7 about right. As long as our tanks got aggro, in the Forges or anywhere else, never had a problem. Definatly worth while still carrying a lower aggro tome, but I'm running through Forges, Stairs, Skumfil comfortably in precision stance, and not finding any problems at all. If theres a guardian up front who is half competant, short of going strength stance at the start of the fight am having no aggro problems other than random aggro bosses, and even then beneath notice does its job at shifting things back to the guard.

Maybe just me though *shrug*, but aggro seems to be one thing they got right in book 7 regards us.

I'm not sure they did get it right. The fact that we can run pretty much the whole time in Precision says to me the damage from that stance is too low. Endurance is meant to be our threat reducing stance. If it ( Stance Endurance ) no longer has a use in controlling threat then it is another useless item in the Hunter's skill set and also nullifies the QS detaunt and associated legacy.

I would much rather ditch Endurance completely and have Graceful Draw add the -threat, -power and QS detaunt modifiers to Precision.

Regarding threat, I don't think it is ok. Rks and Champs steal aggro if they don't watch it, yet we can normally blast away without paying attention to aggro, which we should be doing...

Thank you for your responses, I checked it out and it didn't make a single difference for me between endurance and precision stance except the power saving effect in all the fights I engaged ever since. It might be that in those particular fights I had problems, the tank wasn't doing well, or there is something about the aggro mechanism that I don't quite understand. I turned back to my old style with Deep concentration and two huntsmen traits for pure dps, since threat generation traits have totally blown it imo. (just like the sturdy traps trait, which brought to me every third trapped mob without me ever damaging it, or so)

i can honestly say that i havent used endurance more than once or twice since bk7. i run with precision anytime i have to limit my aggro.... seems to work and is also very power friendly.

i would agree that for the time being endurance has become an obsolete stance almost as useless as fleet stance.

it seems very strange that you would be getting aggro on endurance.
