View Full Version : rune, gem and setting for hunter

hello guys,

i'm finalizing my weapon gear and i'd like to ask for advice regarding runes, gems and settings.

about my playstyle - i'm both solo and group player, running with focus burn setup. i prefer endurance stance because of threat and power consumption control.

setting:
Gold Setting Of Nimbleness: +5% Partial Evade Mitigation/+220 Ranged Critical/+15 Agility
vs.
Ithildin Setting Of The Biting Fly: +7.5% Partial Evade Mitigation/+5% Super Critical Magnitude/+230 Ranged Critical Rating

i really can't decide here - with gold setting of nimbleness (when equipping it on both bow and offhand), i have chance to get +30 agility but i loose 5% partial evade mitigation and +20 ranged critical rating (not rly much i guess). with setting of the biting fly, i loose 30 agility, but i get 10% critical magnitude (as far as i know it increases amount of damage dealt during critical hit). what do i get more profit from?


gem:
Profound Gem Of Nobility: +84 In Combat Power Regen/+5% Incoming Healing/+15 Fate

i think this is the only reasonable choice for me, but maybe you have another opinion :)


rune:
Profound Rune Of Action: -2.5% Attack Duration/-2% Melee Vulnerability/+125 Morale
vs.
Deep Rune Of The Mountains: +150 Morale/+100 Power/-2.5% Attack Duration
vs.
Ancient Rune Of The Thunder: -2.5% Melee Vulnerability/+150 Morale/+150 Power
vs.
Ancient Rune Of The Storm: -2.5% Ranged Vulnerability/+150 Power/+150 Morale

another problem to decide - do you think i'd feel -2,5% attack duration really much? (considering needful haste decreases it by 25% which is muuuuch more)

also what is more important for a hunter - meele or ranged vulnerability? of course, for the watcher i need -ranged vulnerablity, but i don't fight with watcher every day ;) when i solo, i usually get mob to ~50% health before it approaches me but then i fight it from meele range with bow skills (i know i could do it better, but i'm just too lazy to run and i don't loose my health much this way :). when i aggro multiple mobs, i solve it with crowd control and fight only 1 mob at time again. when i'm in a group, i can usually handle my threat so ranged mobs as well as meele mobs don't hit me.

as i prefer +morale (comparing to +power) and -meele vulnerability, i'd go for either Profound Rune Of Action or Ancient Rune Of The Thunder. but i'd really like to hear other opinions :)

Regarding settings, I guess it depends... how much agi can you get from your normal gear? I would go for the Biting Fly if I am around 550 without the settings.

Gems... Well, I used to equip the +will ones instead of fate (more power pool for burn hot moments), but will soon change to stack ICPR.

Runes. a 5% attack duration decrease, while minor, does help a little. I'm going with those for the moment, whatever increase to DPS, however really small, is welcome. The decreased vulnerability modifiers proove most helpful in tanking situations, which as hunters we shouldn't be facing often. At most just the ackward moment now and then when pulling something off the healer (which to be truthful, anyone but the hunter should be doing that, except for a rk).

I always go for deep rune of mountaint as well. Attack duration ftw!

I go for attack speed most of the time. However, there's one thing to watch out for: Penetrating Shot cooldown. In my current solo setup I have so much attack speed and induction reductions that [PS + QS] cycle become [PS + QS + wait] cycle. Not the biggest thing, but something to watch out for.

Just want to point out that "super critical magnitude" is our devastating hit. So basically you are improving your damage of devastating hits by 5%. Not much of a benefit in my opinion.

also what is more important for a hunter - meele or ranged vulnerability?Well, for solo play I would say melee and for group play ranged one.
In groups I find myself getting hit by ranged mobs more times then by the melee. Tank can usually get aggro of melee mobs properly, and when the ranged ones attack the minstrel/rk I try to divert the damage on me.
And as you said, when soloing the mobs will hit you a lot more in melee, and with book 7 that will just increase probably.

on the setting i'd go and find out which one results in a greater ranged crit rating and'd took that one

for the gem, this is a decent one, although there is another with +will and +ICPR on it (forgot the name, think it's tier 7), that may be an alternative

rune...i'd pick either the rune of the mountains or the storm one (tend to group more lately, thus the -ranged vulnerability)
