I have a level 21 hobbit hunter, currently in the North Downs. I've come back to him today, after over a year off (which may have something to do with it) but should I be having this much trouble staying alive? I can just about handle two melee mobs of a similar level, as I can trap one and deal with them individually. Two ranged mobs I don't stand a chance against, and three of anything would kill me without question.

So I always find myself killing one mob of a group, then running away until I lose aggro from the other one/two, and then coming back and repeating. Is this normal, or am I forgetting to do something? :)

Yep seems like the life of a hunter all the way to 60, hence why we have desperate flight at level 20?

It does get better you get a few more fancy tricks as you level up, two mobs at once is about the normal max operating for a hunter three max. (at lower levels and prebards or rain of thorns).

One mob means you win

two mobs means lay trap, open with quick shot (strength stance) or barbed arrow to slow the mob then what ever is your favorite shot after. Second mob gets trapped you kill 1st mob the back off a bit and start on 3nd.

Ranged mobs ping 1 and the run behind an onbject or run back pulling on of them into a trap and then get out of libe of sight of trapped mob so you kill the other.

It's just a case of learn the 'tricks of the trade' so to speak

dont worry the only mobs u will see soon are those in ur FS asking for a taxi, the Hackney oops my mistake Hunter is pretty much hated by all apparently, we hit way too much, can escape when the going gets tough, and are exceptionally rich (which u need to be considering the prices of any Hackney related items lol)..i was pretty squishy at that lvl too...i ended up becoming a solo artist cos no one wanted a hunter in there group till u reached a certain lvl and gained certain skills Guards and mins ftw is the way of this game (until moira came out lol) ur prolly better rolling a warden or Rk now thats the safest bet!!

I can't remember at which level you can start using Hand wrought traps (made by weaponsmiths) but these are always handy as well. Toss one in mid combat tends to get you out of a pickle as well. At least till lvl 39 and you can go for Bard's Arrow, which has been a life saver for me plenty of times since I got it.
At lvl 21 you indeed have to be carefull of what you do, but as you learn to play more with a hunter and get new skills to use you'll see that with a little carefullness and planning you can master CC pretty damn well. Making it very easy to take on even three mobs at a time. Just bite through it for the moment, it'll get better soon :).

Concerning less liked class ingame, perhaps that's true but I haven't seen much of it towards myself. Perhaps it's envy on one side, I do not know. Whatever the case, if you master your hunter, you are a welcome asset to any group I assure you.
