hi all,
people used to tell me it was best for low level chars. but does anyone 45 or over use it?
am i right in thinking there are only 6 quick slot bars? i'm really full so i'd like to get rid of anything that's no use.
any ideas?
is set snare any use? if it is, any tips on when to use it?
cheers

My own opinion is that the higher you get, the less use it is. The DoT it gives is useful at low levels, but at higher level its power useage and long induction make it a very low priority skill. Some guys still find a use for it, but I'm one of the many I think, that don't have it on the toolbar anymore.
In the end, like quite a few class skills, if you find a use for it keep it, if you don't drop it.

I usually use it on ranged ennemies.
Open with ISB (SB at your level) then BA then the normal DPs cycle you prefer.
I find it helps a little. As for melee enemies... I don't bother with it.

I sometimes use it when I have needful haste on as the induction is a lot less, apart from that only if having to switch targets eg dotting boss then switching to adds. Set snare - too lazy to have tried it :o

From the point of view of a crowdcontroller - i also play a LM and Burg - I dislike
nothing more than hunters throwing barbed on targets except its a boss, because that
silly dot is enough to break the mez. Even worse if they use fire oil.
It often happens that they attack the wrong target first and oh nice started with barbed...
Damage wise it's proven that barbed lowers your dps. So there is only a slighly use of it,
if even. It's not on my bar anymore.

You can use it on wargs in pvp so they cant enter stealth for 10-20 seconds.

I use it to get the bonus damage from Scourging Blow as a finisher when solo.

I rarely ever use it, there are only 3 situations in which I have used it, the first one was at low levels, then the damage of the bleed was far more effective (especially traited) and it made scourging blow kick out some nice damage. However, you fairly quickly reach that stage where the DoT is so tiny that using BA for it is a little pointless. Second is in EM on wargs, then the DoT is useful to keep them from going into stealth, but for nothing more than that. Third would be when I have Needful Haste up, then the reduced induction time makes it worth using where you might normally use quick shot.
Personally, I just don't see there is much use for it outside of those situations, Quick Shot is superior in almost every way, damage/power, damage/time, slow in strength, reduced threat in endurance and so on.

I use it all the time as I like it when you see that the mob only has 20-40 moral left you can leave the dot to kill him and get on with the next mob :)
Although if you read the US forums they will say that it's useless...I disagree.

Yeah but when you get hit your put in combat and you have to wait 10-20 secs before combat state drops anyway, im very rarely stumped trying to get into stealth because of a barbed arrow because its not long enough.

Same.

i don't have scourcing blow equipped anymore :p . you could have used the longer induction of barbed arrow for another quick shot/autoattack which would probably do more damage then scourcing blow (although i haven't used it in ages, could be that it does some nice damage)

I'm level 56 and still have it equipped (and use it all the time). I don't use it for the DOT primarily but for the nice bonus if the DOT is still active when you apply Scourging Blow.
When the DOT is active, Scourging blow scores around 400 hit points (depending on your might) but I've known it crit to around 1,000.
It's a nice combo to use - especially as it doesn't churn through your focus and it doesn't have a particularly long cool down.
I normally use Barbed arrow as my 2nd or 3rd shot when the target is still at range then use the Scourging Blow to finish off when the target closes to melee range and its health is around 500.
If in doubt, try it. Use it in anger. Play around with your skills.

It is useful when you set for full trapper imo.. penetrating shot is then on a long cool..
