Hi all,
Microsoft has released a kernel update for multicore processors; eg. Core 2 Duo, Core Quad, Amd X2, AMD Phenom etc etc.
It should resolve certain system and application crashes on computers that have multi-core processors.
You can find it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;953186&sd=rss&spid=11920
You have to request it. On the upper end of the article you will find the request link.

I can't get this to work, it gives me an error code 40, even though I copied and pasted the password to make sure it was correct.

Thanks for this. All working and it has fixed the random Crash to desktops I was experiencing... well so far so good anyway.
Moderator: This should be a sticky!
Exert from the hot fix page:
SYMPTOMS
This problem occurs randomly. It typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
•The computer has some graphics processing devices installed.
•You are running a graphics-intensive application.
When this problem occurs, the system or the application may crash. The actual symptoms vary, depending on the specific drivers that are installed on the computer.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because of a race condition in the Memory Manager. When a driver calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine, this routine may read some data that is being modified by another thread. Therefore, data corruption occurs. Depending on how the corrupted data is used, the application or the system may crash.

I finally experienced what it's like to actually exit the game as opposed to CTD.
Thanks!

Glad to be of help!
I guess this is a rather universal - and quite important for gamers - hotfix, as it will affect ALL games you play (or benchmarks or video editing or ...)
So give it a try.

"Windows Vista, x86-based versions", does this mean hotfix is for Vista 32-bit versions? In article does not say for 32-bit or 64-bit, just Vista.
For those that have posted that hotfix solve your problem with GRID, are you using Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?

For those that have posted that hotfix solve your problem with GRID, are you using Vista 32-bit or 64-bit?OS in my sig.... 64 bit... when you request the hotfix, an activex control detects what OS you have, you get the opportunity to request an alternative if it is for another system by emailing their support. The whole process from clicking on the link above to installing and rebooting took less than 5 mins, and I played all night last night (1st time ever without CTDs throughout). This is fantastic... all along Codies have been blaming my hardware and all along it was the vHeap! Only affects gfx intensive apps, so I guess GRID really pushes the GFX card and the way the code does this is different to most other games and has this problemo! Choice of code rather than bad code I guess.
Thanks once again for posting the hotfix link Knacki99!

electronichead, you had same problem as MrPix2005, GRID crashing to desktop and this hotfix fix the problem?
I see you and MrPix2005 have 4 GB of memory, is 4GB the source of the problem or is there something else you guys have in common? Is anybody crashing the game with 2GB of memory and hotfix fixes the problem?
I have Vista 64-bit and 2 GB of memory and no CTD here. GRID been pretty stable for me since upgrading Nvidia video drivers to 177.35 and having no problems with v1.2 patch. I skip trying v1.1.

This fix worked for me. I only had the BSOD upon exit after patch 1.2, but now i can exit Grid with no problem.
