I have had nothing but problems with this game since i bought it. I worked for 3 days just to get the thing to run. Finally I get it to fire up and run but the game will not make the save profile file or give me the option to save my profile to a slot. I see no slots to save it to. I searched my files looking for any kind of player profile or saved info......none. As a result when i exit the game all of my history is erased along with the control binds for my wheel. I turned off the computer last night totally frustrated..... fired it up today and first thing tried grid again.........guess what....... would not even run. Reinstalled the game and it runs again but still will not save my profile. Any help would be appreciated. I am one more bug away from throwing the game away. I get a GRID.EXE has encountered an error message also when closing game after running a race. ANYONE??

UPDATE:
For ****s and giggles I fired grid up in SAFE MODE and it let me save my profile. Now im waiting anxiously for my next bug to crop up. CODEMASTERS? NAH......... CODEMASTERBAITERS........ better name for the products you are producing. Quit playing with your joysticks and release a finished good running product instead of a Beta version for the community to fix for you!

I am afraid you are experiencing some of the hundreds of problems with the GRID code.
Seemingly, the game is so buggy that the support have given up on us and it.
Someone should do a petition that we could send to the management at Codemasters, maybe they could go tap the developers on the shoulder and ask them what the heck they are doing?
We PAID for a WORKING PRODUCT, not for a FAULTY and BUGGY product.
If I was to bill Codemasters for the hours I have spent resolving issues with GRID they would have to declare bankruptcy.
Good luck - I am just reinstalling ONE LAST TIME - to see if this solves the problem of the hour. Otherwise, I am returning my game at the store tomorrow.

There is no manual save in GRID.
[EDIT] Well, actually there is, sort of.
You MUST turn the 'Autosave' option on to have your game saved.
[EDIT] Not actually true.
[EDIT] In the options menu under 'My Profile' you can save as a new profile. That doesn't seem like a traditional savegame but in the end it does the same thing, it creates a new saved profile and its savegame (still named 'Autosave' though). I would however be uncomfortable with overwriting old profiles.
There is only one savegame for each different profile.
[EDIT] Still true.
The location of the savegame is (in XP):
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\Codemasters\GRID\savegame
Same place in Vista (I think):
\Codemasters\GRID\savegame in your 'Documents' folder.
Still can't save?
If you have moved your 'My Documents' folder (<username> 'Documents' in Vista) or moved the entire 'Documents and Settings' folder off of the C: partition to some other partition or some other harddisk then GRID may have trouble saving. I think GRID may only want to save to the 'My Documents\Codemasters\GRID\savegame' folder on drive C:, and if the 'Documents' folder is not there GRID may not be able to save.
So, if you've moved your folder just create a
'C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\My Documents\Codemasters\GRID\savegame' folder on your C: partition and see if GRID will now save (replace the <user> with your Windows user name).
Same procedure for Vista but I'm not sure of the proper folder locations and names. In Vista you may need to set the savegame folder permissions for you (or for all users) to 'Total Control'. In Vista you may need to run GRID with Administrator rights.
