"Details of patch 1.1 to 1.2 and what are the fixes for the 1.2 patch fix installer"

"Issues of the users with the 1.1 patch"

1) When you exit the game, it sends and exe error

2) The GRID screen menu would corrupt. What I mean by this is that it could not scroll down to see all servers and the screen would blur and scramble all of the menus.

3) If you ALT-TAB out of the game more than once, all of the cars would turn black and/or corrupt menus

4) Controller issues - Force feedback sensitivity would change to random intervals while in game, along with steering sensitivity

5) Lag issues - All through the game including the menus and gameplay

6) The game would have the FPS bug - Framerate would slow to ~10FPS and the game would appear in slow motion and then return to normal FPS but seemingly fastforward gameplay. Happens on average of once every five minutes using any car on any track

7) The game would load slow at some points

8) If you insert your DVD, the game would not start. You would have to eject the DVD and reinsert the DVD in order to start the game

These issues up above have been tested on several machines around the globe

"Major installation issues with 1.2 patch"

When installing the 1.2 patch, sometimes it would not install to the GRID directory. What I mean by this is, on some machines, the patch would install to the Windows directory. On other machines, it would install to the default directory (Program Files/Codemasters/GRID). This issue occurs regardless of installation path or system configuration. The community should be very happy that the patch did not overwrite any files in the Windows directory. If this occured, major system instability would be the result and some, if not all, would have to reinstall their operating systems.

To Codemasters,

Please, for the community and future patches, provide a dialogue box so that we can install the patch to our directory of choice rather than reverting to defaults.

The Team BEER crew decided to rework the patch so that it would work for all of us, regardless of our own system configurations. We have tested it ourselves and it works a lot smoother. This has only been tested for the retail version of GRID. It will not work for any form of downloaded version, such as STEAM.

"This is the proper way to install the 1.2 fixed patch".

1) Download the Grid 1.2 Fixed Patch. Click here to download:
Grid 1.2 Fixed Installation Patch (http://www.vanwinterswyk.com/gridfix/GRID1.2Patch_Fixed_Installer.exe)

2) Go to My Documents. Copy the Codemasters folder and back it up. An easy way to do this is to make a new folder in My Documents titled "GRID Backup Game" or something so you won't forget. Copy and paste the Codemasters folder into this new folder.

3) Open Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs. Locate GRID and uninstall. If for some reason the game will not uninstall, a manual uninstallation is required. How to manually uninstall? Go to your GRID directory and delete the folder. After this, reinstall the game in the same place you deleted it from. This will keep the registry entries the same and prevent a double entry. Attempt to uninstall again.
If you do know how to clean registries, search for Codemasters and delete everything for GRID. Only do this if you are 100% sure you know what you are doing. If you are not certain as to how to exactly do this, stay with the previous steps.

4) Insert the GRID DVD and install the game.

5) Now install the GRID1.2patch_fixed.exe and select the directory you have installed GRID to. The installation of this fixed patch must be to the GRID root directory (the folder with GRID.exe).

6)After Installing the Game and the 1.2 fixed Installation Patch, Place the Codmaster folder with the Backup you made in My Documents
Don. Play Game and have fun!!!!

"Conclusions after testing on multiple systems. The fixed 1.2 patch fixed these issues above".

1) When you exit the game, it sends and exe error - FIXED. No error.

2) The GRID screen menu would corrupt. What I mean by this is that it could not scroll down to see all servers and the screen would blur and scramble all of the menus. - FIXED.

3) If you ALT-TAB out of the game more than once, all of the cars would turn black and/or corrupt menus

4) Controller issues - Force feedback sensitivity would change to random intervals while in game, along with steering sensitivity - FIXED.

5) Lag issues - All through the game including the menus and gameplay - Lag issues fixed as long as ports are open to GRID. Make sure to open ports on your router or Windows firewall (port 3074 TCP/UDP). Menu lag is FIXED.

6) The game would have the FPS bug - Framerate would slow to ~10FPS and the game would appear in slow motion and then return to normal FPS but seemingly fastforward gameplay. Happens on average of once every five minutes using any car on any track - Not Fixed But its alot less.

7) The game would load slow at some points. - FIXED

8) If you insert your DVD, the game would not start. You would have to eject the DVD and reinsert the DVD in order to start the game. - Not Fixed.

There are still some issues but all in all, there are a lot of fixes. If you do a clean install and install the 1.2 Fixed patch, you should be ok. This fixed exe is so you can select for yourself the directory where you installed GRID and somewhat streamline it in case something happens.

Thank you,

Maybe I'm just lucky, but I had None of the 8 issues you describe and I installed CodeMaster's v1.2 patch over my previously v1.1-patched GRiD, retail PC-DVD version, which resides on my G:\ drive. CM's v1.2 patch installer found and properly patched automatically.

The only post-v1.2 patch issue I (and others) noted in another thread is the need to Reboot after v1.2 patching, otherwise will continue to get the Grid.Exe Exception error when Exiting the game.

Does CodeMasters or BEERguys recommend users to use CM's v1.2 installer First, and then resort to your more complicated Uninstall+ run "fixed patch installer" method only if CM's installer fails??

If you have the OS and all the Drivers and Directx "Updated" and use the patch I made it will work. I tryed to use CM one many times in defront ways and came up with to many probs. So my Installer fixes all the probs that the 1.2 could not install right.
Same files its just a better Installer. A "freash" Install and "my 1.2 fix" will fix probs, that ppl are haveing. Also make sure your "not over clocking the system" and make sure your "not useing any beta drivers." Should work fine, tryed it out on "many Computers and Hardwear" and same thing my Installer and the way I do it works every time.

There not to many laptops that can handle playing GRID. Laptop need to have a FAST video card. Any thing less than a 8800, you will need to tone down the graphic settings.

Supported Graphics Cards
------------------------

- ATI Radeon x1300, x1550, x1600, x1800, x1900, x1950, HD2600, HD2900, HD3870

- NVIDIA Geforce 6800, 7100, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950, 8600, 8800, 9600, 9800

Not compatible with all integrated sound/graphics solutions (inc.Laptops)

For you to stand a chance of your laptop of running GRID, will need to try low resolution ( 680x480 ), no AA and turn all advance settings to low or OFF and turn sound acceleration OFF.

If game will run with these settings, then you can work your way up from there. Good luck your going to need it. ;)

I was looking around in C:\Program Files\Codemasters where I found two folders.

One is "GRID", and the other is "Race Driver GRID".

F'ing stupid patch. Thank you for your modified patch installer that I can use to install into the correct GRID directory.

I have experienced ZERO issues with this game other than the following.

1. -novirtual in shortcut necessary to start game.
2. TrackIR 4 still not working after applying all of the latest drivers/software/updates etc.

After reading this thread it is still beyond me why it is not stickied in this section.

People trying to patch to 1.2 may not be patching at all due to the original CM patch creating a new game directory instead of patching the original.

I have not installed your modified patch, but it is waiting for me on the desktop at home. I will post results once I finish installing this evening.

The game is fun enough, and graphics are slightly better than rFactor, but not having Track IR support seriously chaps my hide. That should have been a DEMO feature.

If a "GRID World" feature could be modded into rFactor, along with improbed graphics, then that would be the ultimate game. Personally I wish I had saved my money. rFactor already does everything else WAAAY better. Live and learn I guess. GRID is still a fun Arcadey game though, like the NFS series less the open world environment to race in.

I am running a Q6600 @ 3.0GHz on a DFI X48-T3RS with 2x1GB OCZ 1333MHZ DDR3 and an EVGA 9800GTX. XP PRO x86 SP3 OS.

I have an E8400 arriving tommorrow, but I am not having any issues at all with my C2Q. Will update sig tonight to include my system specs. I thought I saw a thread that showed people having problems with C2Q's. Just wanted to report that mine is working exceptionally.

Patched to 1.2 no problems with your installation modification, THANK YOU!!

Track IR is working properly and I have no issues with the game at all. Seems to be working great, FINALLY!

Let's hope that this gets stickied to help others who are in need of an actual patch, whether it is for Track IR, or other issues.

Morover, why has CM not responded once to any of you?? Why haven't they modified the patch themselves?? Certainly with the capabilities to WRITE AN ENTIRE GAME, they could come up with a few lines of code to FIX THEIR JENKY PATCH!!

Thanks BEERPower12, your help has been greatly appreciated. See you guys on the track. Laters. Show sig please.

Hey guys, thanks for identifying this problem and bringing it to our attention, we are investigating the cause of this so we can fix the patch installer and save people the same problems you have found.

If you have (or have had) this problem, can you let me know if you run any registry or system cleaners on your PC?

Also, if you look in your "InstallShield Installation Information" directory (usually found in c:\Program Files but it is hidden), do you have a directory named "{5A0B7BA5-4682-4273-81C2-69B17E649103}"?
If you do have this directory, can you let me know the name of the directories inside it please, they should be version numbers such as 1.20.0000 etc.

Thanks for your help, Mike.

Hey, thanks for getting back to us. Is there some way to integrate this information into a sticky for common problems, or a sticky of it's own?

I was explaining this same scenario over at the Natural Point forums, didn't get a response there either, but when I asked to have it moved to the "Driving General" forum, they went ahead and did it for some reason, without reply I might add.

The problem I had was that Patch 1.2 was installing to:

C:\Program Files\Codemasters\GRID

when the actual game installed in a completely different directory of:

C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Race Driver GRID

I do use EasyCleaner to clean up my registry and files, occasionally, but it has never cause any problems to date.

Will this problem be caused by having a downloaded version of the game? I downloaded my copy of GRID and couldn't get it to work at all at first.

Uninstalled and reinstalled GRID with the -novirtual change to the shortcut, and it worked fine just without Track IR support due to the fact that the patch wasn't getting installed properly.

I do have that entry in my "InstallShield Installation Information" directory.

I would like to retract all the bad things I said about UK'ers. Well except why do you give us that crappy Mustang BOSS 302 in Grid World?? I would rather eat glass then drive that 4-speed pile of needed to be melted down 30 years ago crap. How about an NSX type Zero, WRX non STi, or a Trueno?

Really the whole muscle car genre should have been left out. I grew up in the United States. I throw up in my mouth looking at all these pot-bellied, bald headed, brain-fried rejects thinking that just because they can "understand" points-type ignition or if they can roll the words "Edelbrock" or "Headers" off their redneck tongues, that Muscle Cars were EVER cool.

The only reason that the GT40 ever had success wasn't because of that junk Ford engine in it, it was due to the chassis design. I don't care what anyone says. American's have been screwing up vehicle design for waaaay too long now.

Enough ranting though. Pretty nice game. FUN. I smoked a Supra with the Z-tune Skyline last night up some midnight touge race course. I love the sound for the blow-off, it is perfect.

Any idea if we will get support for the clutch pedal on G25 wheels? I really don't mind not using it, but it would be a nice addition.

See you at the track.

Thanks for the quick response cesthree, could you check the versions listed in the install shield folder please as in my previous post (I edited it and I believe you posted before my edit). Can you confirm what website you downloaded the game from and where you originally downloaded patch 1.2 from?

Thanks again, Mike.

I purchased the game from this location:

http://codemasters.gamesplanet.com/game-Race-Driver-Grid.html?affilie

The download was extraneously lengthy, but it did complete. Would be nice to have a USA mirror for D2D. Anyways.

The folder in question has version 1.2 in it. Image quality was horrible, sorry.

Well, I can't upload the image and photobucket is worthless.

Let me know if you need any other information.

Anyone got a mirror to this patch please since the link is broken?

Thanks

I don't have any link(s) to BEER "Fixed v1.2 patch", maybe someone else does - or you can track down the BEER boyz / website and ask there.

I didn't need the "Fixed" patch, the official CodeMasters v1.2 patch worked fine for me (I installed it over pre-existting v1.1 patch). CodeMasters says you can install v1.2 patch without pre-patching to v1.1 (and many user forum posts confirm that, tho some people apparently had problems hence the "Fixed v1.2" BEER patch)

You can download CodeMasters' official v1.2 patch here:
