A friend of mine is having real problems playing the grid demo.
When he launches the game 50% of the time the game will make his pc turn completely off straight away other times he gets to do a few laps then it does the same thing.
he is running....
xp with upto date sp
athlon dual core 64
ati 2600 xt
2 gigs of ram
His pc will play toca3 fine and many other games so it must be somthing to do with grid.
Any ideas welcome, all his drivers are up to date and he even done his bios update.

Sounds like either a driver or (more likely) a power problem. I used to have a machine a while back that ran almost all games 100% fine, rock stable but one or two particuarly demanding games would cause hardware lockups or my pc to reboot. I later found out that the problem was caused by my PSU ... when my system was under severe load, some of the components weren't getting the power they needed and so malfunctioned.

We did mention this to him and he has gone out and got a 600W psu will let you know how he gets on.
Quality counts for a lot in a PSU. If he's bought a cheap/brandless PSU, it will be much less stable when under load. CustomPC did a test on PSUs a while back, and found out that the generic/white box PSUs you see in Maplins can easily cause crashes/reboots in a high end system.

Have you fixed this yet? Roll back your drivers to 8.2 until ATi release the newer set shortly

it has nothin to do with his pc... i run the game in my PS3 and it crashes my ps3... at the official ps forum many people are complaining about the same issue.. the only game I ever had problem running in my ps3 is Grid so are you gonna blame my ps3 n me too... go on and blame hundred of ps3 owners too!!so don't blame the poor guy n his machine for the issue! It would be great to see Codemasters taking responsability in an issue that is their bussiness NO one elses!! And if you can't stop defending the M$ payed-out company at least don't say **bleep**
The PS3 is NOT a PC. Unless you understand the difference between the two, I suggest you don't post.

Not yet. Has he tried everything posted already? If so, can you please post a new dxdiag to make sure that the updates actually did update?
Especially checking if he rolled back to 8.2 drivers. I would also reduce the resolution to see if that helps.
Passed on info will drop a note to you tomorrow thanks again
