View Full Version : Cannot create profile....
Hi all
Ive just downloaded the demo, which runs fine, but I cant get any further then the create profile screens.
Every time I try to create a profile it comes back with an error saying the profile couldnt be created. All I can do is navigate through the profile screens, and have to manually exit the game via Task Manager.
Im running Windows Vista 32bit with the folowing partitions...
C: Windows
E: My Documents
G: Games (this is where GRID is installed)
Any help is much appreciated!

I have the same problem in Vista 64bit.
I get the following message:
ERROR!
An error occured while creating the sutosave file. The operation could not be completed.
I tried installing the game as user and as admin, tried both for playing to.

Yes I have this issue too and I have a similar config to you. I posted about it on demo release day but no support person from codies have responded yet maybe they don't care... well many people I know won't be buying this game if it doesn't damn work on our Vista machines now...

Have the same Problem.
PLEASE Help us.
Hi,
The cause of this is mapping the "my documents" folder to a root drive/partiton.
The issue is fixed in the full version of GRID, but for the demo, the following workaround can be used.
Remap your My Documents folder to something other than a root path, and the demo should work for you.
so E:\My Documents, not just E:\
Hope this helps,

That's not really an ideal solution. Changing this path messes up EVERYTHING within the OS, network shares need to be reinstated (all of them), music libraries and playlists need to be recompiled in WinAMP/Mediaplayer. Event and custom shortcuts need redoing and then there's the default folder locations for applications (workspace save locations, peer2peer download locations etc) which all need resetting.
100% unsuitable solution.
Why not just release a patch to fix the demo of this issue instead of making people affected by this buy the game to try it out first? I'm hazarding a bet that people will end up downloading the full game for a tryout then they won't be assed to buy it anymore since they just downloaded it because of this issue in the demo causing grief.
