This option is greyed out for me, so I can't turn on hardware accelerated sound. Something tells me I should be able to do so... I don't actually know if this is a problem, because I'm getting sound in all five channels.

I'm no expert, but I'm guessing that if I turned this option 'On', then wouldn't that mean that the soundcard takes some of the burden off the CPU, which would result in higher framerate? My framerate right now isn't bad, but I would like to know if it could be better.

Here's a benchmark done with Fraps over 77 seconds.
Frames: 3294 - Time: 77312ms - Avg: 42.606 - Min: 35 - Max: 49

Settings are 1680x1050 with everything on max except multisampling which is sat at 4xMSAA

System
Q6600 @ 3.2
8800 gts @ 600/900
Vista x64 SP1
4Gb ram.
Audigy 4 with latest drivers

Could there be something wrong with my sound card?

Its greyed out because this is the demo version. You will be able to access this in the full game.

I've asked other people and they are able to select it though?

In your config the video card is a more limiting factor than the audio processing. On a quad core there is plenty of time to do SW audio.

A decrease in car LOD levels in custom setup should help a bit.

Does this apply to the Audigy 2 Series too? *hoping*
