Not sure if this has happened to anyone of you, but when I click either the GRID demo or the safe mode equivalent, the game boots up (shows up in my processes list), stays there for a few seconds, and disappears. No error messages, nothing else whatsoever.
Tried browsing the forums and trawling the web, but turned up nothing substantial, nor even a similar problem mentioned elsewhere.
Running:
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
AMD Athlon 64 3400+ processor @ 2.21GHz
1GH DDR RAM
nVidia 7950GT, 512MB with the latest signed drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: originally thought this irrelevant - my copy was also obtained from Gamershell. I'll try another source and see if it makes a difference.

Hi folks.
Sorry to hear about the problems. When posting, can you please provide as much information as possible. Can you repeat it? What process leads up to the problem - stuff like that.
If you can read through our Tech Support FAQ (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279123) thread and see if any of that helps. Failing that, can you please post full dxdiags. Again, that thread will show you how to do this.

As to the error itself, there's not much to go on - the demo simply won't start. It appears in the task manager processes for a couple of seconds before vanishing. It happens every time, whether attempting to run the demo or its safe mode equivalent.
I did a "save all information" in dxdiag, but to copy/paste the entire thing would be really long post. Followed what the link said, and the basic information is here:

I tell you something, it's ****ed up securom! Got the same problem here. Dear Codemasters, you know what, **** off with your senseless protection. You want to sell a few copies? Allright, keep 'em clear and we are going to buy your stuff. But a demo with securom problems, well, that's a pretty nice anti promotion. ;)

I grabbed another copy off Fileplanet, with no improvement - same issue occurs.
I tried what Nuke142 said in this (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279102) thread (post #11) - he mentioned Kaspersky, which I also happened to be using. I disabled Kaspersky's protection, uninstalled and reinstalled the game, with no luck. I shut it off completely and repeated the process, but still no dice. I don't think I want to uninstall it to hazard another go, so this is the limit of my experimentation, I'm afraid. Any more suggestions are welcome.
you just have to remove Kaspersky Antivirus!
;)

Nuke142 was talking about COMPLETE UNINSTALL of Kaspersky. I just did that and now it WORKS. Nuke142 you are a HERO! :)

It also includes most other Anti virus software. Its best to turn this off when installing any game/demo as it can prevent vital files being installed. Also, if you have any virtual drives software - like daemon tools, turn these off as well.

I uninstalled grid demo, unloaded all symantec services, exited daemon tools, then installed grid demo again. Still nothing :(

Try rebooting first, turning everything off again - then installing the demo.

It was my various anti-virus anti-popup anti-spybot TSRs residing in the background that gave me the same "no message" error.
Once I disabled them via the Program Manager, the game attempted to start. But since I knew it wouldn't run due to my old video card, I then received the error which was expected.

Also, the readme.html file that comes with the demo states the following:Not compatible with all integrated sound/graphics solutions (inc.Laptops) So don't expect your onboard sound chip to work. This may be generating the error for you.

I uninstalled Kaspersky, and the game works fine now. It's odd that it required my antivirus program to be uninstalled, as noted in my previous post that disabling the protection (and restarting) and reinstalling the game failed to make any progress.
Still, am glad it's up and running now, with no errors ingame so far. Sound is fine, onboard sound isn't giving me any problems. Thanks all who contributed.

I agree, it's unbearable to uninstall the virus protection for a demo software. Blame Codemasters and save your money. :)
