View Full Version : Logitech G25 - No Force Feedback

Just as the title says, I'm getting zero force feedback in Grid. I have setup the FF in-game to ON and 100% for all options. Under Vista x86 Control Panel > Game Controllers, the wheel is showing up and working properly. In games like rFactor and GTR2 the FF still works fine. I've reinstalled the Logitech G25 software and still nothing in Grid.
System Info:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe with latest chipset drivers and BIOS
2GB Patriot DDR2-800 RAM
EVGA 8800 GT 512MB - Driver version 174.74
Razer Barracuda AC-1 Sound Card with latest drivers
Vista Ultimate w/ SP1
I'm using a custom scheme for controller mappings if that makes a difference. Everything else with the game functions properly (Audio, Video, Buttons, Steering, Throttle, Brake and Shifter. Just no force feedback. :)
EDIT: Tried a few more things while we're waiting for some kind of response from Codemasters:
Running Grid.exe as Administrator DOES NOT WORK
Running Grid.exe in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility Mode DOES NOT WORK
I went into the Grid demo installation directory to look for the FFB settings file but I couldn't locate it. In GTR2 there's a "player name".plr file where users can access all the detailed settings on the FFB in-game. I was hoping to find something like this in Grid so I could mess around with it. I found the hardware config files but didn't see any FFB settings within them.
I do believe this is a Vista problem as pointed out later on in this thread!

I got the Exact same Problem here, except i'm using a Driving Force Pro Wheel.
I donot use the Logitech Profile Software, so i can properly configure ingame every RaceGame.
I have FF in every Game i`m playing, eg, Test Drive Unlimited, NFS ProStreet, GTR2, DIRT.
However in Grid the FF is not Working, though 100% is adjusted in Menu.
I'm Using Vista x64 and the newest Logitech Driver 5.02.
Thanks in advance and please fix this, till Retail, thanks..

No the steering seems to work correctly. Everything except the FF, seems to work as it should.

well ive tried everything possiable to try to sort the steering problem, and nothing works !
went online for a few games and watched how ppl got good laps in, and inmost every single corner he had to opposite lock,
in hense they used the Dirt engine and that game has come out like a rally game, its like the car floats everywhere.
tarmac + touring cars = grip
there is no grip feeling in the car watso ever,
i will not be getting this game period !

hi
i've got the same problem with a logitech momo racing ff
also with the standard configuration the auto automtically steps on the gas. This problem is solved by using my own configuration. but even in that case force feedback doesn't work.
i've windows vista but with the special driver.

Hi all,
I have a G25 Too and like you, i don't have FF effects in the Game on Pc : Core 2 Duo 6600+, Vista 32, 9800 Gx2.
But when i try my G25 on The PS3 demo it runs fine ! Why ?
Thanks.

I'm getting this as well, with MOMO Racing wheel. Works fine with every other game, including DiRT.
Here's a tip, use the WingMan Profiler to enable the centering spring. It's not force feedback, but at least it stops the wheel from sliding around every where.
As for GRID, I can only assume its a programming error/demo limitation. Let's hope we get some confirmation of this soon.

My G25 works fine and has good force feedback on my WindowsXPSP2 PC.
I launch GRiD Demo from Logitech Profiler (it may work fine w/o Profiler too, I haven't tried that). I made a GRiD Demo-specific profile to set 200 degree wheel lock-to-lock range to speed up steering response.

Could be that only Vista 32/64 Users have this Problem, as i think all people reporting this problem have Vista or XP/X64.
But Codemasters has to confirm this, i'm not really sure.

I had the same problem as well. With the default configuration with the G25, the car was stuck in reverse with 100% throttle applied. Only remedy was to make my own controller configuration like you said. May be another Vista-only problem!

Yeah, seems it's a Vista thing. I've tried GRID on my XP partition, but it failed to launch, so I couldn't try it with XP.

I had the exact same issue with my Momo wheel: FF maxed in the settings - but no effects at all (even though Windows could see it).
I have since managed to remedy this by downloading the latest Profiler software from the Logitech website. I'm using XP 32 bit - I will try on my Vista machine tomorrow - it's tied up at the moment rendering.

Same here, Vista 32bit
NO FORCE FEEDBACK /w G25. reversed gear in default profile. the 5.02 logitech software didn't differ from the old one.
If someone has it working please post the profiler settings.

Just wanted to pipe in here to mention that I do not any sort of
FF in this game.
It is working with other racing games, but not this one, including TOCA, DIRT etc.
What is strange is that it almost seems to want to perform some FF because I felt just a touch of wheel kickback when I was playing the BMW race last night, but that was with Custom settings.
I might also try the Profiler method and see what happens. To see if it does anything on Vista with GRID.
This game just has to work with FF, Codemasters, please, this is so technically excellent from a visual and fun to drive quotient, if you have a working setup, please reveal it to all of us, as we are all trying to gather an impression of your product now.
I don't care if I have to install some patch for Vista and the game controller drivers or whatever, this game just needs FF, it is so amazing otherwise.

I have Win XP 32bit SP2. I had no rumble on my Logitech driving force pro at first, but it was due to having another control plugged in as well. Once I removed the controller from the usb port and restarted the game it was fine. If you have any other non essential usb devices, try unplugging them and trying it out. This is probably obvious to most, but I figured I'd throw it out there just in case it would help someone.

GRID is amazing, a definite leap forward in the series, just as DiRT was for Colin McRae (RIP :(). But we need force-feedback to appriciate it fully.
Let's hope there's a fix for the demo. If not, I'm sure we can trust Codies to have a fix for the retail version.

Just to add that I too have had the same problems with G25 and Vista 32bit.
Original config car went backwards without pressing a pedal! Went to custom set up, all works well but no force feedback.
This is a bit poor from codemaster, in the blurb it points out that the G25 has specifically been programed for this game. I know its a demo but if this problem persists in the main game then its a no buy for me. I would have thought that they would have mentioned this problem in the read me, which tends to suggest that their testing prior to release did not cover one of its big selling points (at least for me), that of making use of a rather expensive steering wheel.

I downloaded the latest one from Logitech's website for Vista and it didn't work. Let us know how it does on yours.
Will do - I'll let you know how it goes in this thread - I reckon it should have fininshed rendering sometime tommorrow afternoon/evening. For your reference - my Vista machine is a Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, 8800 GTS 512 (G92), 4Gb 800MHz RAM, dual booted Vista Ultimate/ XP 64.
I'm pretty sure that your issues can be sorted prior to release - however (if I'm honest), I do have concearns about how satisfied you'll be once the wheel is actually working and dialed in. Personally I was a dissapointed to discover that GRID's handling has remained virtually unevolved from Dirt. As a newcommer, I'm sure this wouldn't be an issue - but if you're used to playing rFactor/GTR it will feel like a big step backwards.
However on the upside - Grid does seems nicely scalable. My P4 3.6GHz/X1900XTX combo seemed to run it well on 2 xAA/High settings - and with an overall framerate higher than Dirt.

I understand what you're saying about Grid's handling compared to rFactor and GTR2. I knew coming into Grid that it was an arcade racer, which is one of the reasons it appeals to me and ,dare I say, millions of others. It's always nice to be able to just jump in a car and take off instead of spending a lot of time testing suspension settings, gear ratios, downforce, etc. :)
I'll be on the lookout for your post tomorrow.

I am glad I am not alone on this. I have a very hard time driving with no tension on the wheel whatsoever. In most other games I can use the wingman profiler to set my force strength etc. for the game but this one seems to over ride those settings to zero.
I am in Vista as well. I hope they get a fix for this in the demo because there is no way I am spending the money for the retail version without trying it out properly first.

Enable the centering spring in the Profiler. That gives you some tension, not FF, but still easier than a sliding wheel.

I know it's a demo but:
I have a Logitech G25 running it under windows xp pro.
When i am off too the startgrid i here my engine rev's at maximium.
So it look's like my pedal is stuck but it isn't.
When i get a green light i'm off with lot's of wheelspin in first gear but than come's the problem. When i shift to second gear it seems like i am only giving 25 procent of the throttle. While the indicator on the rightside of m Hud says i am giving a 100%........
The game runs like a well oiled machine !!! Congrats on that ! Great frame rate while my pc is about 2 years old.
I love the 3 discipline's like the touring car, drifting and streetracing.
The handeling and all the other stuff are Spot on !
I am the first one to buy it when you release is, but please take a better look @ the steeringwheel G25 and rumble pad !

Well here's the update - as I metioned before I didn't have any issues using my Momo wheel in XP 32bit once I had downloaded the latest profiler software.
However, having installed Grid under Vista (32bit) this morning - the Force Feedback effects vanished like a fart in the wind. Even fiddling with the Profiler software didn't help - I'm sad to say guys that it may just turn out to be a Vista issue.
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that Codemasters can fix this before release...

I didn't really have any issues with XP (32bit) and Grid to be honest - I just installed it and it worked fine - I run Avast AV. It installed and played fine in Vista too - but for some reason under Vista I'm not getting any Force Feedback to my Momo wheel.
It's a bit disconcerting that so many of us are encountering series issues...I mean it's due for release in a few weeks time....Yikes!

I just got it working in XP. Force-feedback works, which is good. However, the actual game is a lot buggier on XP for me. It was freezing for seconds at a time, then everything would speed up to catch up and I'd be dead somewhere. How annoying.
However, the force-feedback is definatly a Vista thing.

the problem anyway seems to be related also to the demo: colin dirt works smooth with force feedback on.
My system is vista ultimate 64bit and the controller is a logitech momo racing.
I hope codemaster will soon release a fix or a workaround.

Is Codemasters going to reply at all? It is bit irritating that a very popular wheel (G25) is not working correctly when it is supposed to be supported. Who tests these things during development? Shouldn't be very hard to plug in the controller during testing and go..."Hmm, there is no force feedback, maybe we should look at this and fix the problem".
And for it to not work on Vista is a joke. It isn't like Vista just shipped. It is an established operating system with many, many users. Disappointing is all I can say. Let's hope for some type of response.

Sorry guys, but I've just registered on here to let you know I have it working.
I'm running Vista HP 32bit with logitech software 5.00.182 and have FULL force feedback on a G25. I haven't had to tweak the settings or change anything unusual with the logitech profiler. I have weight on steering aswell as loads of effects if crashing etc. It works fully on Vista for me.
I know when I first got Vista back in early 07 I had issues getting the logitech software to detect the wheel and I had to unplug the USB cable and then replug it in during install of the software. Apart from that I seriously can't think why my version works and yours don't.
I downloaded the demo off of Gamershell btw. Though I'm sure there is only one version out there.
Sorry I cant help further.

Oh, forgot to mention - I do have 1 issue and its that I have to make sure the brake and accelerator are set at 50% play as I'm using the single axis. I dont have to do that with DiRT.
Totally adore the demo btw. I've got it running at 60fps (vertical sync on) at 1920 x 1080 with all settings maxed. Superb stuff imo. Only thing I had to was uninstall magicdrive due to the Securom as it was causing momentary freezing (maybe once or twice per lap)
I've set my options to notify me of replies, so I'll check back if I can be of any help.
All the best

My G25 works fine and has good force feedback on my WindowsXPSP2 PC.
I launch GRiD Demo from Logitech Profiler (it may work fine w/o Profiler too, I haven't tried that). I made a GRiD Demo-specific profile to set 200 degree wheel lock-to-lock range to speed up steering response.

Hey guys, got the G25, nice solid wheel!
I read through all these Vista problem posts, and finally got my Axis' etc working correct, but im having trouble calibrating the steering.
Playing with the dead zone and saturation, I can almost get something that feels right, but no matter what, I cant get it the car to easily drive straight.
I have my deadzone at 0 or 5 and my saturation at 10 or 15... and it doesnt seem like theres room to breathe to get it right. I either have very sensitive steering, with no good straight driving, or the opposite, very loose steering and very straight driving.
What can I do to get this right? It just doesnt work well.
I guess my question is, will tweaking the settings in GRID AND the LOGITECH Profiler work in conjunction? Does one over ride the other? Or do they mix well, ie. maybe I need to set the Profiler to be more sensitive and GRID to be less or vice versa?
Also, do I set the steering degrees to 900, or leave at 200, or set something in between for realism?
As cool as a wheel is, this seems to be a major pain in the ass to get it to feel right, its kinda not fun nor playable... I hope I can fix this and didnt waste money on a wheel.
Oh! and is there a way to use a Clutch in GRID? I read somewhere no, but thats kinda strange isnt it? Do any racing games allow a clutch? Also, can I set my gearbox to do sequential in grid? Seems like when i switch it on, I can only go between 1 and 2 gears...
Cheers!
