Hey guys,

Been looking forward to this game for a while, just got the demo and it runs and looks sweet on my Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop. Its pretty good fun I reckon.

However I've got a bit of a problem, the game has no sound at. The video at the start has sound, but then theres nothing. The sound on this computer has worked perfectly for every game I've played so far, including DiRT. I've updated the sound drivers to the latest version and all that, still no luck.

Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution? The sound card is just the standard one that comes with the system, with the latest Sigmatel HD audio codec drivers (ver 6.10.0.5609). Other specs: Vista SP1, T7500 Dual core @ 2.2Ghz, 3Gb RAM, 8600MGT (169.09 drivers - kinda old I know but runs fine). Since the sound in DiRT was fine I figured its kinda weird the sound in GRID doesnt work. Hmmmmm.

So yeah any help would be great, cheers!

Same problem :D

Sound with the video, then no sound during the game :D

Hardware : Dell XPS 420

Quad Core 2,4 Ghz, 4 Go RAM, 8800 GTX

Sound Card : Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec

If you need my dxdiag, let me know :D

Have a nice day :D

suggest chceking dxdiag and making directsound as hardware enabled. I did this and it all now works for me a part from the CTD after winning a race.

Try to reduce hardware aceleration in control panel at the "audio devices part" one step at time, may not be your solution, but solved most problems in my experience. make sure before that you have the very latest drivers for your audio.
(i dont use english windows so i cant make a walkthru)

in some games in here (like assassins creed) it solved missing sounds. that seems to me broken drivers from your sound chip manufacturer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Since I'm using Vista there is no option for hardware acceleration, so I cant fiddle round with that.
I've updated everything possible including sound drivers, graphics drivers, even updated the bios. I've also tried installing OpenAL, but I think that only works for Creative cards right?
Anyway no luck still. Its really annoying, I hope this is sorted in the final release (I know laptops arent supported but every game I've played on this has worked flawlessly, including DiRT and RD3).
Oh well, even without sound its heaps of fun... wouldnt mind being able to hear it though!

I have a Dell XPS 410 running Vista and I was having the same problem as you. I also have the integrated SigmaTel HD Audio Codec "soundcard" and updating the SigmaTel drivers got me nowhere.

I did get it to work by going to the dell support site and downloading this:
Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio for Vista

Since you have the same SigmaTel audio as me, it's worth a shot. It fixed the sound for me. Good luck.

I am also experiencing this problem.

Current hardware is asus commando, supremefx1, latest audio drivers via asus website (couldn't find others anywhere else :x), windows XP32 and 8800GT with 175.63 drivers, PCI latency timer at 32clocks if it matters.

System overclocked, btw.

I wouldn't believe it could be the overclocked system, i will chek it out asap.

EDIT: I just put my system to default values, including PCI latency timer :D, tried the game and it exposed the same problem.

I would really like to hear the game, because I use manual steering style, and it is harder to look at the rpms than to hear when I should shift ;)

And being deaf sucks. HARD.

Well I gave the Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio for Vista a blast, still no luck. Cheers for the suggestion though.
Seems a lot of people have this problem, I saw on another thread that codies are looking into the problem so hopefully we'll see a fix soon

Seems to be the problem is the sigmatech onboard, because that's the same one that I have on my inspiron 9200. And I get no sound either, might try the Audigy upate to see if that helps.

Yesterday, right after I re-installed OpenAL, i was able to hear sound after the "press enter", but wrecked sound, that ended in a looping sound. Hardware acceleration was on, quality set to high.

Remind I am using E8400, Asus Commando, SupremeFX audio card, XP Pro 32bits and latest drivers and Dx.

I believe everyone that depends on Soundmax drivers has this problem :(

I have Icemat Siberia USB sound card and headset and im in the same boat, can hear sound at the beginning video thing but after that nothing.

Running windows xp pro x32 SP3
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
2GB Ram
Radeon x1650pro

Will try and switch to my on board soundcard and see if it changes :-/

EDIT:

Switched to my onboard sound card and the sound is working perfectly fine on the high quality sound setting. Kinda lame my piece of crap onboard sound works when my "professional gaming" setup doesnt :( BTW motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-k8u-939
