Guys when posting for help - there isnt much point posting what your system is. There are two sticky threads - one for Known GRID issues (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279124) and the other is a General Tech support FAQ (http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279123). Please read through these and if it still doesnt help - please post a full dxdiag. The more detail you put in your post about your problem, the quicker help can arrive.
By posting 'my game doesn't work' - really doesn't help anyone. Attention is in the detail :)

just a suggestion, for those who are experiencing the "demo doesn't start" problem, with no error messages, first uninstall your antivirus to see if this is what causes the conflict.
in my case, uninstalling Kaspersky solved the problem

Xadeon - what error message, if any are you getting when you try to start? Did the demo install ok?
If it did, can you please explain what happens once you've clicked the GRID icon to play? Does it black screen? Blue screen? Nothing?
Xadeon

The install was ok. But starting the game is a no go. When i try to start the demo, GRID.exe loads (taskmanager: process) for 5 seconds and then it stops(process killed). No splash screen or black screen, just nothing. Samething when i try it with safemode shortcut.
edit: What ive tried so far.
After turning off my AV (NOD32), a reinstall of the demo.
Set the affinity to CPU 0.
Turning on compatibility mode to "Windows XP"

DLL error? You can google the exact name of the dll and download the file from dll-files.com. Then just copy it to both game and system folder. It's not too hard to fix but it's still annoying.

Hi,
I've the same problem here :(
My dxdiag.txt (http://www3.speedyshare.com/data/556539732/10817788/2146855/DxDiag.txt)
CPU : C2D E8200
GPU : Geforce 9600GT (Forceware 174.74 WHQL)
RAM : 2 Go
Motherboard : MSI P35 Neo
OS : Windows XP64 SP2
I installed the demo with and without Antivir, i haven't a virtual driver...
On the first launch of GRID i've got this message :
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/3906/wsock32eu1.jpg
So i copied this file from another PC with XP (32bit) SP2, and on the second launch i've this message :
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/646/ws232we8.jpg
Same operation with the file from XP 32bit...
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1748/ws2helptg1.jpg

http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/7239/winmmtj9.jpg
again...
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2931/msimg32yv3.jpg
At this time, i've no more error but the game not start, nothing in process explorer (GRID.exe appears and disappears).
XP Compatibility on the exe doesn't do anything (i didn't need the winmm.dll file)
I hope that the problem with XP64 was resolved with the retail version, it's a game that i want to buy since its be announced :)

Ok guys. I've found the solution. Apparently its a problem with the administrators rights. Although its weird because im logged in as an administrator.
But anyway, here is the solution; Rightmouse-click on your GRID-shortcut >> click "Run As", a box will popup titled "Run As">> Now click OK.
and thats it! :)

maybe that fix it ?
Well, i've read every topic on this site.. but can't get it to work :(
Don't have the luxery to try it out on another PC right now.
When i start the game (tried run as > also!)
I see a little splash-screen from Racedriver Grid.

First, it was wsock32.dll was not found. I downloaded it from some website and now I don't get the error anymore. So, that worked.
Then, it's winmm.dll. Same problem, same solution.

Hi
Newly registered demouser of this game, i'm also on XP64 SP2 and cannot get GRID to start at all. I'm getting no errormessages or anything and all my drivers are up to date.
Any suggestion what i should do to get it running ? when i doubleclick either of the game's icons it reads from the hdd for a couple of seconds and then nothing more happens.
My rig is as follows..
- Q6600 2,4ghz
- 8gb ram
- Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme soundcard
- Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro motherboard
- XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb
And a bunch of various hdd's.. i think the game demo should work on this setup.

hi all i had the same probs loading grid on my xp64 1st i wouldnt start
then i used sum tip that all u have to do is right click the short cut exe
go to run as then it loads ok...
but then i discovered that u need to save a profile and when i tried to do this
it came up error saving msg and would let me play the game?
luckily i have a xp32bit pc networked to xp64 so i loaded it on that and it worked fine, i then noticed that there was no grid folder in my documents on my xp64 and there was on my xp32 this is were all the config files are kept and profiles so i simple copied this folder codemasters\grid demo over to my 64bit system in admins documents! now i can play the game but i dnt think i can save still
but at least i can play it so all u need is this grid demo config folder to play the game

I have Kaspersky AV but do not want to remove it yet, just disabling does not help either.

RDGRID.exe demo is protected with the 10 days Securom DRM. Before you run the game, Securom looks your system for your installed copy software. If Securom find suspicious software like DaemonTools or Alcohool, RDGRID.exe crash without prompting.
My computer have a dual boot ... first system have some CD/DVD software copy (this is my working system) and the second system is a fresh install (this is my gaming system). My hardware drivers releases are exactly the same with my two OS installs and I use the same RD Grid install directory to launch the game. On my first system with software copy, RD Grid won't start but on my second system, RD Grid works perfectly.
Use ProtectionId 6 as DRM detection software, and you'll see I'm not a liar !!
To play RD Grid demo, uninstall your software copy.

I think i've figured out why the '5secs in taskmanager, then nothing' problem occurs and for some of you the 'run as...' tweak doesn't work ;)
to get grid working i tried as you have:
- uninstalled antivirus without results
- tried the 'run as...' function without results
then i started thinking: why would 'run as' make any difference if you're not actually changing anything when you just have to hit the ok button. well, the solution was simple:
- go to your system settings -> users
- select 'switch type of user-login' (have no idea how this is called in the us version, having a german one^^)
- DEselect 'use welcome page' and 'fast user-switching')
- hit ok^^
- select the administrator account
- specifiy a password
- select your current user account
- sepcify a password
then:
- use the "run as..." function
- Don't use the preselected option but choose 'The following user'
- Use 'Administrator' and your newly set password
- Hit ok
- be amazed
i think this problem is caused by the type of windows installation you did - i always skip the initial windows setup assistant (when he askes you if the preselected resolution is ok and stuff), therefore i have auto login with the administrator account. i found it totally strange as GRID woudn't start on THREE of my pcs but would on my fileserver (which has been running for a loooong time) so i thought about the difference... and found the usage of this assistant to be the only one.
hope this helps you guys :)

Still does not work.
I'm running with admin rights, but different user name. Tried to run as both current user and Administrator(used MMC console to create a password for Administrator), but still no go.
Disabling "use welcome page' and 'fast user-switching' does not help either.

I am using xp x64. Securom is trash. Tell me why I should have to uninstall my antivirus or cd./dvd software to run a game? Ridiculous. My advice is wait for the full game then get the no cd/dvd and run it that way. It was the only way I could get Dirt to run. I have installed the Grid demo and it wont start. Have tried most things listed. However I draw the line at having to uninstall any software from my pc to run a game. Codemasters and Securerom have to no right to control the software I use on my pc.

i to can't get this to run at all. i do not have any anti virus or fire wall. or even spyware stuff on this yet. i just formate to XP Pro 64bit sp2 last week. all i got installed is 5 games.with xfire and teamspeak2, but i had xfire off when i installed and tried to play.
it installs fine and when i either try the short cut on the desk top or in the all programs. i get the hour glass for a few seconds and then nothing. i tried the right click short cut and that dos not work.
once in a while i wil get the WNSOCK32.dll is not found error, which is bogus, since it is in both folder. i had a buddy try to help me get it to work and even tried some of his .dll files and registry files for securrom and still won't work.
hope they do fix this. i hear it is the best driving game out yet.p

I find a trick about our problem on Kaspersky's Forums ... here it is :
The "Invader (loader)" popup is letting you know the program you're trying to run is injecting code from the particular .exe into that program to run it. It's not likely to be a virus, spyware, malware, etc. If the game/program uses Securom or CD checks, and KIS won't let it run after you create the rule for the "Invader", do the following:
Right-click the KIS icon in the system tray, click "settings", click "Protection" in the left-hand menu, click the check box for "Compatibility", reboot computer. KIS should now allow your game/program to run without further issues, even with the above-mentioned MS Update installed.
Compatibility Mode was designed for this reason. It allows games/programs you want to run that have Securom and other CD checks to run. That's why it states "Compatibility mode for programs using self-protection methods"

Puf Puf, finally you don't need to uninstall your Kaspersky Antivirus to play RD Grid. DRM software developers use system hacks and exploits to protect games & softwares. Buy a game with DRM protection, is to take the risk of paying without play. I already had the problem with Starforce game protection and I will never buy anymore protected games.
this problem has nothing to do with kaspersky. i had to uninstall it some 7 years ago. and i don't have any antiviruses with autoprotect now.

7 years ago without any antivirus protection ... now you may be stronger than John Rambo :o)
In my last last post I give you a trick with Kasperky and I just said the problem is the DRM Securom. It use insane programation system method to protect the game against disc copy, and on some customers system running the game will be unstable.
So, I can't help you anymore ... but now you know Race Driver Grid will not work properly on your computer. Try to solve the problem by yourself or wait for a new release without Securom (or a no-disc RDGRID.EXE file ;o)
i have drweb manual scanner and narrow hands - it's more than enough - no viruses, even spyware and adware, in last few years.
hope codemaster will drop such a bad protection.

well my main rig is for gaming and nothing else. i have another pc that i use for email and IM. which does have AVG free even the new one 8.0
but i am trying a different site for the down load. since maybe the file shack one maybe messed up? i hope that may fix it. but that Kaspersky's i do not even have or know what it is used for.
i hope they figure out what is causing it to do this.

Doesn't run for me either. XP x64.
When I double click the icon, it's busy for a sec and then nothing. Doesn't launch at all. Just shuts itself down. No Av or anything else. LOTR, Archlord, even the free racing mmo, project torque runs. Just not Grid.

well that did not work either, down load from another web site. i did try the compatibility on both game exe, the normal and the safe mode. when i tried it in window 2000 i got this once, only once i have not gotten this error again. but i did try all the different window there was.

still not sure why it came up with that. but other then that error i did have the wnsock3.dll not found. but that has only done that maybe 3 times.

Install game as administrator, then if a desktop icon doesnt appear go into the demo program files and run the grid application as an administrator.
If still no joy install the latest vista and graphic card drivers.......my demo runs in vista 64, but my wheel wont work!!

Xp 64 bit, SP2. The demo won't load for me either, I tried run as admin and that didn't work either. I have no AV software either.
I tried disabling SLI, and that didn't work. I have the latest graphics drivers, I've also tried safe mode but I still get nothing.
The past few years it seems like I've had, and lots of others have, many many problems just trying to get Codemasters' games to run. Looks like I will be cancelling my pre-order. Again.
I'd attach my DxDiag info in the vein hope it may make a difference, but I can't even see a attach button on here.
Edit: I also have the AMD64 processor patch that was needed to allow Race Driver 3 to run properly, and that hasn't made a difference to GRID.

Dear Codemasters Team:
I tried to run the demo on my rig (E6600/X1900XT/XP 64). Without success. The known 5s loading bug. No Kaspersky.
Now, do you REALLY THINK someone buys a game for which you have to
- disable your Audio Card (wtf?)
- disable your Anti-Virus (yeah, sure.)
- uninstall anything at all?
For your information: Our systems are doing just fine, maybe you start programming a game that is actually working. I played DIRT three times because it kept killing its safegames - but this is what you get for buying a game without waiting for 30 Updates. You are getting worse than EA, they are releasing bugged games, you even fail at releasing a bug-free demo.
So long.

I've just tested this on a fresh install of XP x64 and had no problems at all getting it to launch
obviously it doesn't mean we should delete all installed software/reinstall os from 0. just remove this buggy protection. it's a matter of 10 seconds.

I'd been playing the demo in Vista64, I just installed XP64 on a spare drive to see if it would run there too, because you asked if it would work.

i have xp 64bit sp2 and i still can't get to play this yet. and since i have no anti virus software or Kaspersky what ever you call it or even daemon tools either. and this demo will not launch plus if it does anything it may give the wnsock.dll not found error but not that many of time either.
but for those that have it running on there xp 64bit what do you have installed? or not installed? even after i found out this wk i had 2 of my 4 sticks of ram are bad. but still it won't launch and i do play other race sim games as well with no problems at all.
shame they won't say anything about they are working on a fix or not?

Thanks for your help! I was glad to know that it does work on XP 64bit.
At least you tried to help. Not a word from the administrators on this tread!
I also sent them the "launch analysis". So who knows if they are addressing this?
Guess this is why: "It was in no way an easy decision (In fact we've spent hours in the office with the whole boxed-product community team mired in art-critic-like discussions) but we've settled on this image, by Debaser64, as this week's winner."

@ Howie.
Your Realtek sound drivers are very out of date (2005!) so if you can update these, that would be great. We are looking into XP64 bit and will post an update shortly. Your dxdiag doesnt say what resolution your screen is, but I suggest selecting a decent setting - not too large.
And, I would recommend turning off any background programs you are not using before launching the game. This will help free up the much needed RAM.
We are trying to get through all the threads here and discover what are real issues (not involving driver updates) - and this does take time to do. Thanks for your patience and an update will follow shortly.

Yes, turned off all other programs.

The same with me.
Tried the following:
- disabled Avast Antivir
- uninstalled Avast Antivir
- disabled DaemonTools x64 (disable virtual drive)
- uninstalled DaemonTools x64
- run as administrator
- create new admin account and tried to start it with that
- Updated X-Fi drivers to actual driver
- tried actual WHQL nVidia drivers and newest "beta"release (non-WHQL)
- setting resolution to lowest settings possible.
The GRID.exe won't go ahead the 5 secs visible in taskmanager->processes, even not with -safemode option.
All other codemasters-games, i own are working fine on XP x64 (DTM RD2, RD3, Colin McRae DIRT (! - same engine)
Sure, i'm not amused, seeing the videos on youtube, but not able to play on my machine ;). Anyway, as it's a pre-release demoversion, no need to bother you guys, as there are so much plenty of options, why the game won't start. Anyway, the "demo" should called betademo (at least for future demoversions of games), if a really big testing wasn't done. Otherwise somebody should have noticed this problem ;).
Now for some input to get things sorted, here's the dxdiag(32bit)-output:

I'm noticing that many if not all posting thier dxdiag, with this problem have the (professional 64bit) version. There was also a problem with OEM system, to get it
to load XP S2. Something to do with administrators rights. Just trying to help and speed up the process. Want to play the game. cry!

I simply joined and chose the first thread showing that matched my own issues best, the following is all I can currently think of that I have tried as well as this systems configuration.
Windows XP Pro x64
Asus A8N32 SLI Deluxe
AMD X2 4400+
4gb Mushkin Memory
512MB 8800GTS
Razer Barracuda AC-1 7.1 Soundcard
PC Power & Cooling 510 Turbo Deluxe (so plenty of power)
Disabled Secondary display
Updated Video Drivers
Disabled Soundcard
Removed Antivirus
Removed Daemon Tools
Created new user account
Ran As Admin
Removed usb devices besides keyboard and mouse
Updated DX
Updated OpenAL
Attempted to use Compatibility Mode
Installed and reinstalled several times to different locations
As posted so many times I get the hourglass and appearance in Task Manager for roughly five seconds then nothing.
The DXDIAG is as follows.
http://www.4filehosting.com/file/119707/DIAGX078-TXT.html
Thanks to anyone that can offer some possible solution.
I would like to point out that I did have KAV, NOT KIS loaded and it DOES NOT have a Compatibility Mode option when installed on XP x64 so that suggestion is pointless, I also have a friend that installed it on a fresh load of the OS as a test and this is confirmed, please adjust the FAQ/Stickies to reflect this to lessen future confusion, thank you.

I'm not surprised that those tech guys still have not answered, it's because there is nothing wrong in our systems and the game is solely to blame or they don't give a ****

I've just tested this on a fresh install of XP x64 and had no problems at all getting it to launch
By the way. Was this the (Professional xp64 bit)? Also was it a OEM
version? Did you install, service pack 2?

I believe he is talking about a 32 bit system! He has " nod 32 bit antivirus!"
Are you saying it works for you? Exactly which OS do you have?

hi all i had the same probs loading grid on my xp64 1st i wouldnt start
then i used sum tip that all u have to do is right click the short cut exe
go to run as then it loads ok...
but then i discovered that u need to save a profile and when i tried to do this
it came up error saving msg and would let me play the game?
luckily i have a xp32bit pc networked to xp64 so i loaded it on that and it worked fine, i then noticed that there was no grid folder in my documents on my xp64 and there was on my xp32 this is were all the config files are kept and profiles so i simple copied this folder codemasters\grid demo over to my 64bit system in admins documents! now i can play the game but i dnt think i can save still
but at least i can play it so all u need is this grid demo config folder to play the game
Could you possibly upload that file some where. Post the link here. So we can try that? Possibly rapidshare or the likes. Or even just tell us the names of the files found in the documents and settings/Administrato/My documents/Grid, folder.
By the way. Was this the (Professional xp64 bit)? Also was it a OEM
version? Did you install, service pack 2?
There is no non-professional version of XP x64, and yes my XP x64 has SP2 slipstreamed
I believe he is talking about a 32 bit system! He has " nod 32 bit antivirus!"

NOD32 has a 64 bit version too, running it here in XP64, Vista64 and Server 2008 x64 (and the 32bit version in XP x86)

Thanks for your reply. That still doesn't work for most of us? Which I find curious.
Do you have the Grid folder in your (My Documents) folder? I believe that is where the, start up, information is. It is missing form my install?
Could you possibly upload that file some where. Post the link here. So we can try that? Possibly rapidshare or the likes.
didn't the installer place a folder inside your documents and settings folder?
eg.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Codemasters\GRID Demo\hardwaresettings\
inside the hardware settings folder are 2 small xml files, hardware_settings_config.xml and hardware_settings_info.xml
if they are needed, i've rar'd mine up here
http://wright-gaming.com/paul/GRID/Docs_Codemasters.rar
[edit] seems the files are created when the demo launches
Howie2
20-05-2008, 02:53 PM
No it didn't. But thanks, will give it a try.
just realized they are created when the demo launches

Yes, I figured that. Unfortunately your (hardware_settings_info) is
different then mine. So it doesn't work. Nice try. Back to the drawing board.

Oh Pyro, I noticed in your system info, you only have SP1. So that might be why you can get it to lauch. While others cannot.
Also you have "Vista", this tread isn't dealing with Vista. XP 64 bit!
sorry, those files came from my vista install which is SP1
i realized this and switched em for the ones from my XP x64 SP2, you must have grabbed em b4 i swapped em
as i posted before, i have multiple hard drives, running XP x86 SP3, XP x64 SP2, Vista x64 SP1, and Server 2008 x64
in my post the other day, i did say that i had installed XP 64 just to check the game worked properly because you were asking for confirmation

I sent the "Launch Analysis file" to Secrom, maybe that will help.
i remember having to do that with the Crysis 1.2 patch
i take it you don't get the 5 second hourglass then nothing then?
Howie2
20-05-2008, 05:53 PM
Yes, I do get the 5 sec. Hour Glass.
I got this reply from SecuRom.
Hello.
Thank you for your e-mail. After careful inspection of the analysis
file,
it appears that SecuROM is authenticating with no errors. I would
highly
appreciate if you could send us a detailed error description as well as
screenshots of all error messages.
I sent them a link to this thread.

Yes, there is definently a glitch with the game in windows 64bit systems. However at least one poster got it to work. On a fresh windows install.

Seeing as I have no clue what resources are available to the codemaster development teams and in the effort to help with this issue of GRID on XP x64 I found a program to monitor the install of the demo and offer it as possibly some way to see what happens on a system that has issues with the demo. The only two things that I can think that may differ is I have moved My Documents to another hard drive and the system has been loaded and running 24/7 for well over a year, loads of installs and uninstalls of apps & drivers which may complicate matters. For what it is worth though I offer this installation report for your review and hope sometime soon to see a fix. Thanks.

I did not include the installation log that this attempt created as it logged nothing, but obviously it is outputting a call because the grid shortcut was detected, the folder mentioned above by my friend Pyr0 that are created on the first launch of the demo do not exist and copying and pasting his into the locations does nothing, he and I have worked on trying to find some resolutions for awhile now and continue to come up without a solution, hopefully this information proves useful.
I apologize for the extra garbage included in the log but I have several other things running at all times and these items got into the log a bit, scroll down past the Newsleecher references and you should see mainly GRID related logs from there onward.

Its a long shot and may not work for all. I was using XP x64 SP2 and i had the issue, so i just created a shortcut from the main install directory manually, as it did not install a shortcut automatically, and it worked. BUT only for a couple of runs, then it just stopped working after a reboot. Reinstalls made no difference. I am dual booting with Vista 32bit (x64 not delivered yet) and it did the same thing untill I installed SP1 then was running sweet at full quality @ 1280x1024 @70fps ish, untill today now when i open the game, it loads fine, but then at the menu screen the car in the garage bounces around and smahes the crap out of itself then continues down the pitlane?????????? Even online, all the cars are doing the same thing around the track, just rolling and smahing whilst being driven normaly. interesting to watch for a min or so, but now just plain friustrating!!!

I run an AMD X2 3800+ with 2gb ram and Windows XP 64 and have this problem (5 secs of hour-glass then close).
A friend of mine tried it and it and it worked. He has EXACTLY the same hardware as me. He also has Windows XP 64. On his Grid install, it put a Codemasters\Grid_Demo folder in HIS profile (not administrator). I tried copying that to mine, but it didn't work. But when I looked through his h/w config file for Grid I found that he is running Windows SP1. I have Windows SP2. So, there is one significant difference.
Also, when I created another user account on my machine with admin rights and tried to Run As... Grid tried to start, but gave me the following error:
"A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (6000).
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=6000 for further, more detailed information."
I went to that link and it suggested searching for a particular virus. I didn't find anything. So, no solution here, but a few more bits of information. Thanks to all who are working on this!!

Hi folks,
at first i want to thank EncryptorX for his engagement on the demo x64 issue. Now i have seen the eyecandy in 1920x1200 *njamm*.
But i have also some additional info:
I have seen, that GRID created it's hw & user profiles directly under my gaming partition d:\Codemasters\GRID.
I copied it to the Local Apps-folder of my admin account, before changing the executable.
I had no issues when starting, but after the BMW race, the game closes w/o any prompt and within the mustang race, the sound is "lost" in the third lap.
I will try with my G25 and Rumblepad II, to see, if it's working properly.

Codemasters... CODEMASTERS!!!
Where are you? What is the update on XP64? Have you found the problem?
We have two identical machines in every way except one has sp2 and the other has sp1. The one with sp1 works very well while the sp2 machine gives the 5 second hour glass.
You have had 1000's of views on this thread alone. Obviously a LOT of people are having this problem. This could be the difference between buying the game or not. Or, buying it later when it is fixed (in the bargain bin) or NOW at full retail price.
What is the status of this problem? We are trying to help you out here. There is a lot of information on this thread indicating where to look for this problem. Don't you have ONE person who can update us on your efforts?
I see on some of the other forum topics that there are racing contests going on and screen shot contests. It sure would be nice to participate in these things. Can you get the programmers who botched the XP64 code to convince them to extend the deadlines for the contests?
Thanks, I'm sure many of us would appreciate that.
Oh yeah, and I wouldn't be wasting my time writing this if I wasn't excited about the game, so let's get this problem behind us!

When you install the demo you need to do a custom install and do it to a folder with no blank spaces in the name. Because grid is 32bit it will install to Program Files (X86) \ which can cause a mess up. I got the same error until i reinstalled to a folder with no spaces.

I saw the sticky so I'll choose my words carefully.
As others have mentioned certain changes to the .exe has fixed some people's problems with xp64's. My friend had the same problems and I found a fix that worked great for him.
I don't know if it's already been said but a certain website which is the "world of game copying" ;) (google it) has a "correction" that fixes some peoples issues.
No matter what devs/publishers say it is not illegal as long as you own the game. Period. You have the right to play your game now...not in a week when they feel like getting around to a patch. These issues were all in the demo.

core2duo 3.0Ghz and 8800GTX
I was using win xp pro with sp2 then sp3 and GRID full retail and demo ran ok at first then had some start up issues with the game like a lot were/are experiencing here. Just recentley purchased a copy of win vista x64 bit it took me a while to set up the operating system , and i have to say that vista x64 is as good as win xp if not better, i can run GRID Demo and the full retail game of Racedrive GRID with no problems ...i'm realy realy pleased with vista 64 bit operating system ...very well done microsoft and keep up the games for windows oh and nice one codemasters and devs of course for the great and very much fun game Racedriver GRID ...thankyou.
the only issue i have with vista x64 is i can't seem to install and use my nvidia graphics drivers properley, win x64 seems to download and use a default set of drivers from there update servers so am using older drivers according to what i can see in vista x64, other than that most everything is top notch, very suprised indeed after reading all the negative input from the vista haters ...lol.
Hope you can sort it out.

Has anyone else here with these problems tried this? It has been worked for many people on other forums with the same problems. Actually 2 of my buddies so far.
I'm not allowed to link to the website (even though it's perfectly legal) so just google "Game Copy World", search for grid, and you'll find a no-cd crack (which is legal) which bypasses the extremely buggy cd-protection securom and allows grid to load properly.
Hi folks, though I'd post my results as I have loading issues with both the Demo and full version of the game on one of my machines.
My main machine is running Vista x64, 8GB ram, Q6600, 8800GT. I had zero problems running the Demo or the full version of the game on this machine. I also read mention of this game only using one core which is not the case, atleast not for me. It was using well over 60% CPU usage on my quad which equates to a little over 2 full cores being utilized.
Ok, now for the problem child. I tried running the demo on a XP x64 based machine with X2 4400+ 2GB ram, x1950pro and it was a no go. The "run as" routine worked for the Demo but I purchased the retail version through STEAM and I would get an error from steam when I tried to do "run as." Even after the update that was just released for the game was applied, it still would not launch. Then I tried the 4GB patch that was posted a few pages back and it WORKED! So kudo's to the author of that nifty utility and shame on codemasters for ignoring such a serious and widespread problem and not even addressing it in the patch they just released.

also another thing is, that 4gb application also works on other games as well. i know i have been using it on my other games i have installed. so it is a multi tacking application , and yes 1 big kudos to the author of it.

Hey all,
I had the same problem with the 5s hour glass then nothing..I tried all available game fixes, even tried using disk images, but grid still would not launch.
Credit goes to Thrillseeker.no for mentioning the "-novirtual" command. This fixed the problem for me straight away, with both the demo and the full game.. even though im running XP 32bit; i couldnt find a more appropriate thread :P
Just right click Grid shorcut (or create one) and click properties then under target, add -novirtual so its like this:
"C:\Program Files\Codemasters\GRID\GRID.exe" -novirtual
