Just desided to play this game again since it's the best of it's kind so far. BUT....
When trying to switch on the forcefeedback in the controller menu, the game will not let me activate the FF option, it sipmply skips to the next menu item.
Force feedback is running fine under windows (checked in cntrl pannel)
Have reinstalled direct x + latest drivers for my guilemot FF wheel.
The game use to run just fine wit great FF on a P-III 667 machine.
I am now running it on a AMD Athlon XP1800 with 512DDR and a GF4 440MX.
Any one have any ideas how I can activate the FF option in the game?
Have you selected the correct controller?
Are you using WinXP by any chance?
You could try changing quick force updates to OFF or ON depending on what's currently set, but if the Force feedback wheel doesn't even appear in the list then that option's unlikely to be there anyway.
CMR2 force feedback used to work fine on my old PIII 500 with SB Live. But on my new P4 2.5GHz my Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback works at random, some tracks are fine but others it's like driving on Ice ie. no FF. I have had all sorts of problems with force feedback on the new machine under WinXP, some games work without a hitch but others don't, and microsoft no longer support their own hardware under winXP. As far as they are concerned the game port is a legacy device and anything that connects to it is not their resposibility.
Of course my problem could be related to the MIDI UART in the onboard sound card on my motherboard since this is how the microsoft controllers actually comunicate with the computer.
I don't know. If anybody else has a solution then please post it here.
Thanks

As you know, Microsoft dropped all support for the Gameport version of it's own wheels. Basically the speed of modern systems drive the Gameport too fast (or at least, not correctly). Whilst the wheel does seem to work (as a wheel) the FF is implemented with extended MIDI commands which usually don't work :(
Anyways, you could try what I used to do: grab a copy of Dependency Walker, profile the CMR2 executable (enable all options) and see if you've got FF. It *did* work for me with about a 90% success rate. However, for one or two stages there would be no FF at all or worse - the wheel would pull full left. I played like this for a year or so before giving in. I've now bought a 2nd hand USB FF Wheel. As my OS is Win2K that one's supported (although warnings are given during installation!) so it now works as it should!
Best of luck anyways!
