View Full Version : Spectators

do we need spectators in the game ????
i dont know about anyone else but in past games they havent been animated enough ,even in WRC they stand there with arm bent at the elbow doing this ridiculous repetitive wave ,it just seems like a waste of time and space too me
unless Codemasters can be the first to break through this seemingly impossible or overlooked barrier with making them more animated i would rather they generate there efforts elsewhere in the game
what do you think ????????

I agree. if they look silly, zap em. Use the power for more detailed roads and landscapes

I think that if there's no spectators, it won't look the proper rally sim that its meant to be.

Have you ever seen a rally that nobody stands at the side of the road and watches?

I doubt that they'll look silly though.

If they put spectators in i think they should put cars at the side of the road as well like on the monty.

another good idea DeepBlue ,we also often see lots off incar footage of retired cars etc on the side of the road ,so why can't we possibly have them put in randomly and possibly only on sections of road where we have a reasonable amount of time to react and not coming across them on blind corners ,i know this detracts from a sim type situation but the drivers get plenty of warning so unless we can have that warning somehow the placement of the retired cars has to be fair ,9 times out of 10 they are off to the side anyway

What about the spectators backing away from the car which has shot off the track or comes close to smacking into a crash barrier near them?

I think that having very complex spectators on the stages might take up a lot of space in the game, but it would be nice to have them. Those that are in WRC are an improvement on anything we've previously had, and with a few different movements they would look pretty realistic. Not that everyone will be driving the stage looking at them as they will just be a blur.

Gone are the days when the crowds stood in the road, that would have been a scary thing to have had. But having a crowd that interacts with the driver would be good. Would love to have a night stage like Sweet Lamb with all the camera flashes!

On the subject of having other cars, perhaps we could have the marshals car at the stage start, parked on the verge, and maybe have the timekeeper / starter animated to count the cars away, like on V-Rally 2. Parked cars on the roadside would give extra realism, as would other competitors who have retired.

I dont think this happens on the WRC anymore. The co-driver just counts down what is on the 'traffic lights' countdown timer.

Interestingly enough, the horrendously awful Sega Rally 2 (Dreamcast) has animated spectators on their stages. They'll actually have people snapping photos in the middle of the road, then they'll scuttle off to the sides. Not all spectators are animated however - some are just the usual 2d cutouts for "filler".

I have a funny story about WRC. In one of the stages, I think in Cyprus, there was a spectator I hit at 200kph. He was standing in the middle of the road, arms crossed waving his head from side to side. It was very funny and also very frustrating. I managed to still win, as it was on easy. But code glitches like that aren't the best to have.

Retired cars on the side of the road are not infrequent in rallying. Nor are cars going off on the same stretch. Maybe there should be hotspots where if there's a good chance you'll get caught out on a tricky corner then there might be a car that's already come to grief on that corner before you, leaving skid marks, glass, a bumper or even the whole car. There is no problem with having a car retired at a blind place on the stage, just have the co-driver of that car wave to you to slow down for that corner. The one problem I see with this is doing the Championship a few times and seeing a car retired on the road in the same spot every time you do it. If this can be worked around it would be a very nifty feature indeed.

Also, I'd love to have a night stage lit up by camera flashes too!

Also, to reduce the chances of you hitting spectators and losing time, set them up to fall over, run away or get bounced off your windscreen if you hit or come close to them.

Cheers,

weird. I finished the entire thing, but the last british rally on expert (before my ps2 decided to break) and I never saw that glitch??

every seen gt3 rally
you got some shots of the spectators taking pictures
how about something like that
or have them waving flags or cheering
something simple would be good not just a picture of a person standing there

Hello

I believe that spectators should be real and interact with the race.
This could be turned on or off in options.

Animals, people and damaged cars must be in their place.

We know that animals cross the track and cause a lot of crashes. The people invade the track regulary, and stages are cancelled. Damaged cars should be drop randomly and why not, on fire, with medical assistants and others.

Make it REAL means all these and more. If you want to race with this options off, just turn them off.
