Im new to this game, can hunters tame a pet?

No, that's WoW you are thinking of. But at least in this game hunters have no minimum range which is great!

Lore-masters are the pet class if you're looking for something like that. Captains get their heralds too. By short definition, in LotRO hunters are single-target nukers and taxi service. What to expect is several combat stances (damage increaser, accuracy increaser, power saver), one rapidfire self-buff, a trap (two really but they share a cooldown timer), no heals, no CC except two downright dangerous fears and squishiness in close combat.

lol, very nice suggestion.
maybe we will get option to fear lms pet so he can bring more mobs into fight ;)

lol, that has to be the most accurate description of a hunter I've heard, sadly :(
