Hunter is, at least while shooting in strength stance, the single most powerful single-target DPS class in game. So powerful that tanker / aggro manager classes may have trouble holding mob aggro if you let wail at full speed. Against most normal mobs you can expect to shave off significant amounts of their morale (lotro's health) before they manage to enter melee range. Combined with traps and arrows that slow them down, they might even die before landing a single blow on you - lot can depend on you getting lucky with critical hits though. So it is a "safe" class to play up until a mob manages to make a jump on you or otherwise closes in to melee with lots of health left. Then, running away is not too good for a hunter.

In fellowships (groups) they add a lot to total damage capacity, and because they stand near back with the even more squishy minstrels (healers) they can react quickly to them drawing aggro, something a frontline combatant might not easily notice. With their DPS, it is pretty easy to draw aggro off a minstrel or another squishy class. Your main task however is making sure mobs get killed fast.

Hunters also get "taxi" abilities; a pile of "Guide to..." skills that can whisk the team into specific town in an instant. Additionally there's an ability to bind to a single campfire, which usually are located near instance doors, and whisk the team there when necessary.

Hunters are medium armor users so they can take some damage without being in danger. Sustained tanking is best left to more suitable classes however.

Although hunter's role is somewhat limited, I enjoy playing one.

Full heal...made me laugh.

For a start we get no power back with strength of morale, quite the opposite as it costs around 350 power. Second, it heals between 2k and 3k (tends to be closer to 2k for me). This is not a full heal. Its about a 2/3 heal on my hunter (whos about 500 morale short of what he'll be at once I get all his equipment collected), depending on whether or not I get lucky. I won't even mention the idea of it being a 'full heal' on a morale specced level 50 captain with all buffs up O_o

With that said however, I would reccomend a human hunter, purely because we so badly lack any self healing ability.

Heh, yeah. Captain can reach up to 7k morale fully buffed so a 2,2-3k heal is hardly noticeable.. ;)

Anyways, I hate all these "what is best" questions. Just play the game however you feel is fun. There are no clearly bad race/class combinations in this game, the content is too easy for any of those to really matter. Humans are the easy way to go but later on there are situations where a 3k heal won't save you; when Hunker Down (dwarf), Eldar's Grace (elf) or Feign Death (hobbit) will.

PS And if you're wondering: signature status please. (http://forums.lotro.com/showpost.php?p=1148840&postcount=19)

btw: question is lm or hunter - dont know how u got to captain, but hunters cant get to 7k, max u can get is 4k with full buffs (but that means u are in fs so self heal isnt something you use when u have captain or mins)..
if u have more then 4k then it means u have 0 agility and u cant hit **** ;)
unbuffed at lvl50 hunters are arround 3k-3,5k so even 2,5k heal is better than nothing when u solo

heh

My hunter has a grand total of 3.2k morale and to get that I had to give up a lot of agility......2-3k self heal for me would be the difference between life and death

like you said dependent on traits/armour.

personally if you don't have the best traits/armour etc in game then look at options. I believe the general agreement would be to not let agility drop below 350 (remember agilty adds to 'evades'... got to hit you to hurt you), then look at power (will) and moral (vitality).

Don't forget Fate (in-combat power and morale regen). Especially in long fights (raids) I really need that.

if you don't care about nerfs and whines roll a hunter if you do roll a burglar , most versatile features they have.nonetheless playing a lore-masters is really different from a hunter.Hunters are supposed to have nuke dmg skills as mitigation keeping the mob dead before it reaches you howeve a loremaster can easily manage multiple mobs as master of CC.And imo loremasters look more carismatic then hunters or any other class.I love my hunter cause i love being one , going into wild and hunting mobs is nothing you can feel with other classes.

With Exquisite Galadhrim and Aurochs, or Doom pieces? Because the only combination that I have seen so far that manages to keep Agility over 400 and have morale around 3.3K includes the Doom Helmet.

well in raid fellowship you don't really needs high moral and certainly no might, concentration would be Will (power), Fate (regen), Agility (400ish) and Moral.

i think the relevance from OP is Pvmp (yawn) and Soloing on those times when i have died (DF on cool down or lagged out) i can have more than half power left :P

So Solo moral(Hp), Agility, (evade and damage), Will (power etc), the a toss up for fate might (remember hunter have no tactical crit so fate is only for regen).

based on this it scary to think hunter actually need 2 sets of armour or trait base (alternativly find some thing in between dependent on class)
if you applu some medians to this and creat a number formula the results suggets the alround best set up for hunter is will, agility, moral, fate as importance?

very confusing, personally i like Agilty [till 400-450] (evades and dps), Fate (regen), Moral (hp), Will (power) as order of imp0rtance
