Nothing to do with nerfes niether a compensation , nor WoW enthusiasm ( i've never played WoW , just read the threads here and watch some youtube movies :) )

I'd be so happy if we had a non-combat pet , might be a dog or a lynx or even a hawk , something fiting our class under nature(sadly not lore , see Radagast - Loremaster ..)perspective and hey they can even implement this in a way that improving our tracking abilities giving more options but nothing so shiny for pvmp that creeps start whining.

One of the best quest in this game for me is the mother lynx quest which i've repated many times with joy , good hunters remember that ;)
The only issue took my attention is in Middle-Earth , Radagast is the most well known character who deals with nature and can interact with beasts , animals, thus making the loremasters as pet summoners =) Though there is a Valar who loves to go hunting , i should look into it if he has any pets when he goes hunting.hmm where is my silmarillion again? oops Turbine hasnt got the license , yet ^^

So what do you think?

Brilliant idea Mel! I believe a dog would fit in nicely...
Huan was the hound of Valinor, and Vala Orome gave him to Celegorm. Huan followed Celegorm into exile. Well, he changed his allegiance later, and helped Beren and Luthien...but he was definitely what we call a dog.. ;)
Also, in the Hobbit, you can find this part when Bilbo and the Dwarves are in Mirkwood "They were still standing over him, cursing their ill luck, and Bombur's clumsiness, and lamenting the loss of the boat which made it impossible for them to go back and look for the hart, when they became aware of the dim blowing of horns in the wood and the sound as of dogs baying far off. Then they all fell silent; and as they sat it seemed they could hear the noise of a great hunt going by to the north of the path, though they saw no sign of it." This suggests that even Elven hunters were having pets, likely dogs.
Hmmm, now with our luck, we will get a black squirrel with Mirkwood expansion in five years or so... ;) ;)

i know you're very ****ed of with the changes like me , but hey i posted this thread to change the overall picture of hunter forum add something different from angry threads. We're struglling to tell the community how our class has become less fun, i know ,but still there are other fields imo that we're missing as hunter and this pet idea might be fun which is nothing to do with the latest combatplay issues. :)
Thanks Thinlas for the bright and detailed infos , this may support the lore aspect ;)

I believe that a non-combat pet would be a great idea and I love the OP's points.

Also, the potential for expanding on the idea is huge. Personally I see a Hunter as someone who is 'at one' with nature and whilst in the wild. I could easily see how a hunter could tame animals, 'look after' younger animals as they grow and maybe even trade them on... While I'm thinking of this I'm kinda being reminded of Beast Master elements from SWG although it is clear that the LM has more links to that than what the proposed there are some similar elements.

I'd love a dog (or some other pet) that could do your harvesting for you. So you kill a wolf at distance, send the dog over to collect the light hide while you stand still and maybe work on the next one.

I know it doesn't quite fit the image of a skilled hunter taking items from a corpse and therefore requiring some expertise to do it, but hey if all classes can loot the same things from the same animals, that whole argument has already gone by the wayside a long time ago.

Or maybe the pet could track instead of current track abilities ? Hmmmm, I see myself telling my dog what I want it to track for, and it lined like an arrow, pointing with its nose in the direction of my prey :)

While I see a Hunter as someone that hunts nature rather than is one with it, I would love to have a non-combat pet auroch yearling, those things are so adorable. :D

Barring that, pets for Hunters in anything besides something to look at would just irritate me, so giving hunters pets with any capability (tracking, picking up, etc) seems like a bad idea to me.

I think Hunters should have parrots, which can be trained to say things such as, "Sorry, that skill's been nerfed!" everytime Bard's Arrow or Cry of the Predator are used. Or, "You won't be able to kill that anymore!" everytime you target an Elite.

A Hunter 'being one' with nature allows for the effective tracking and hunting his prey because he understands how the natural world functions.

I agree that the pet should have no actual funtional value on top of those already available to the Hunter. I could see that some of the tracking abilities being transferred under a pet command or something?

Personally I'd be made up if i could just have a dog or a hawk following me round.

Hey we're not asking something that a pet runs towards the tracked warg spoting his place stuning it for 30 secs and then coming back reporting "hey master i've captured the beast and present thou as you wish!"
it can be pure cosmetic something we can enjoy while tracking or hunting , though i'm open to any ideas class&lore appropriate.

A dog or hawk would be very cool... no hunter should be without one! I would be happy for this to be purely cosmetic but don't see why these pets can't be used authentically. Both hawks and dogs have assisted in hunting for centuries!
