This is the official description of a Hunter :

http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Class:Hunter

Class: Hunter
Hunters are masters of field and forest, unmatched in their dexterity with the bow. They use their survival skills to guide companions and lay traps for enemies. Hunters are at their strongest when attacking from a distance, but are able to defend themselves in melee combat when the need arises.
Role: Nuker
The Hunter is proficient at dealing out good damage to single foes at both range and melee. When Hunters are at range, they can unleash devastating arrow shots that do high damage to single targets. When the lone enemy finally manages to close into melee range, the Hunter is well-equipped to deal the finishing blow with some melee skills.

Role: Nuker ???
Good damage at both range and melee ???

It seemed I chose the wrong class somewhere, but it said Hunter there when I did ! :)

Europe's website description is more accurate to what we are now, though someone forgot to update our abilities to their current nerfed state, and add the new ones :

http://www.lotro-europe.com/classes.php?class=hunter

I suggest both websites to be updated, or anyone thinking of choosing Hunter class will be misdirected.

yes it's nice that you brought up this subject up to date , we can talk about it.
This is the hunter description according to europe site of codemasters :
Hunter

http://www.lotro-europe.com/images/class_hunter.jpg He was a great hunter, but he vowed to chase no wild beast while there was an Orc left in Rohan.
- The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A
Woodsman, pathfinder, and master of the bow, the keen-eyed Hunter can use her arrows to devastating effect from a distance. Archery is not the only thing the Hunter excels at, for she can lead her companions through the forest at greater speed than they could on their own, and can set up traps to ambush enemies. The archer is no close-quarters fighter, however, and would generally rather let her bow do the work than resort to her sword.

The Hunter will be the class of choice for players who enjoy striking a target at range. Clever by nature, the Hunter is known to lure her targets into traps to hinder them, giving her time to use her bow to deadly effect. A Hunter's knowledge of nature also provides skills that help her and her fellows survive in the wild. A Hunter's combat style depends on her ability to injure others while staying out of harm's way.

Well with latest patched i feel more like a archer as a supporter in groups then a hunter whose abilites are more devoted to nature then being a nuker and single target dpser using his 1-2-3 skills to kill those at range swiftly. And yet i don't feel i can defend my self that certain at melee range as the description states but i 'd say i create some time to depart from fight and get away from melee range for a while to cure my wounds and get back into the fight as soon as possible if the conditions are favourable or i completely get out of hot field and prepare in safe zone for my next assault which makes me feel like a guerrilla not a hunter :D
