Every time you find a great album or song that you think we'd like, let us know.

For example:

At the moment, because I'm a musical snob, I'm listening to Shack, 'The Fable Sessions'. Yes, I know, you've probably never of them, but it's great - a lot like a Liverpudlian version of the Verve mixed with Teenage Fanclub (if you've heard of them).

Also bought this week was a Buzzcocks album (I'm going through a punk/new wave phase at the moment), the 'High Fidelity' soundtrack and other obscure sounds.

What are you listening to?

good thread!!!

OK, at the moment I have Eels - Beatiful Freak in the car.

The next album I want to buy is, don't laugh, Sheryl Crow -Greatest Hits, i think it looks pretty cool.

I've just managed to get my hands on Oasis live at Finsbury Park from last year on eBay which I went to. Jesus Mr Gallagher was sh*te.

Other than that I'll be listening to the Best of the Smiths which I've just bought from HMV.

I don't know loads about them, I have heard some of their music and that I have heard is brilliant. A bit on the depressing side for some but so are a lot of the great bands.

Rubbergenius
21-10-2003, 03:48 PM
Yeah, they can be depressing - titles like "Pretty Girls Make Graves" and "Suffer Little Children" - but then they can be very funny - "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others", "Panic" (Hang The DJ song) and "Frankly Mr Shankly"...

I told you not to laugh!!! OK, I won’t buy it!!

The best gig I have ever been to was Oasis at Loch Lomond , when they did their Knebworth/loch lomand weekends. Was absolutely awesome!!

Has anyone listened to The Long Pigs – The Sun is Often Out it is a really good album.

I was there on the Saturday! Good gig. What's the sound quality like on the CD?

RubberG - I know Shack - seen them live. Wasn't very impressed, borrowed their latest one, didn't grab me. Nice tunes, well written, just doesn't rock my world.

Their singer is called Mick Head though! Legend!

My favourite album of the year is Keep On Your Mean Side by the Kills. Very good. Also have enjoyed Elbow's new one and Elephant by the White Stripes is three-quarters of a superb album.

Today I'll be mostly listening to The Clash "From Here To Eternity" live album, Death In Vegas "Scorpio Rising" and Royksopp "Melody AM". Very good all of them, espcially the Death In Vegas album, as the title track features Liam Gallagher and probably the best song he's ever been part of, better than that Oasis or whatever they're called.

Got The Streets 'Original Pirate Material' album as well today and used to find it very annoying - a cockney talking over the top of drum and bass music - but now it seems to make sense. It's really good.

23-10-2003, 07:07 PM
wow...i love the streets. but i live off depressing music. KoRn, slipknot, deftones, nirvana. the last album i bought was by soulfly. wouldn't expect many of you to 've heard of them. but i also love the beatles, air and loads of chilled out stuff. some would say that the aggressive music is affecting me more than most.

I've been listening to the Mars Volta over the weekend. It's...different. Looking forward to seeing them next month though!

By the way, watch out for a band called Snow Patrol. I've been a fan for a few years, I saw them in June 1999, and they've been hovering just under the surface of greatness since then. Their next single should be the one. It's an awesome anthem called "Run" and it's one of my favourite songs of the year, not out till January though.

is the new order box set any good? i was thinking about getting it, but i can't decide between that or the alice in chains box set, i have got substance, movement, power corruption and lies and the latest one, is it still worth getting the box set?
have you got the soundtrack of 24 hour party people? i just got it today and have been listening to it all morning

Rubbergenius

The box set is definitely worth getting, especially if you can get the 5 CD version (the free extra CD is fantastic - it has the 17 minute version of Elegia on it along with a classic for for all 80s footie fans - the theme from "Best and Marsh" TV show).

You'll probably have all of the tracks from the first two CDs of the box set but the other three are definitely worth it.

Haven't got the 24 Party People CD simply because I've got nearly all the tunes on there anyway (I think it's something like 14 of the 18) but I'd like to get it just to hear the Moby/New Order version of New Dawn Fades.

Treasure by the Cocteau Twins,
its not new music but its good, i got it cheap in a second hand music shop the other day and its really good, its a really beautiful record sort of 80's indie/goth music but it is a unique sound
the singer Liz Frazer has an beautiful enchanting voice and she sung on songs from Massive Attack's Mezzanine like Teardrop and a few others
definatley a recommendation if you want something different

Psycho's - that Unplugged Nirvana is awesome. I'm not usually a fan of theirs but I went mental on that album a couple of years back. Brilliant.

The new Streets album is clever, but ultimately I find him a bit annoying. Couple of wicked tracks on it though.

I love all of their mellow stuff and this album is just great, haven't stopped listening to it for a month but hope I don't burn it out. Particularly love the tracks Polly, Pennyroyal Tea, On a Plain and Plateau. I wanted to know what Polly was about cause it seemed a bit of a weird but intriguing track. After a short search I found out its about the kidnap and torture of a 14 year old girl.

I can see why some people find him very annoying, speaking over a drum and bass beat - but the words are sheer poetry, he notices the smallest things about boring day to day life in Britain.

The Streets.....i don't mind him, but i wouldn't buy his album.

I'm currently listening to...

mclusky - the difference between you and me is that i'm not on fire.

Absolute quality, it's rock/punk like the Pixies used to do, full of witty lyrics and some damn hard riffs and basslines. Download She Will Only Bring You Happiness, Without MSG and KKKitchens.

the best of the Pixies.

I thought i didn't have any Pixies stuff on CD, just mp3's so i got it with mclusky's LP.

Ash - Orpheus.

Their new single, really infectious and good to listen to on the radio, it stands out from all the RnB and pop that's usually on.

Try the first album first if you were to get either - more accessible than the second (and it's funnier).

But I'd certainly say it's an acquired taste, I really do understand why people hate his stuff (as I used to!)

Don't get me wrong - some of it his stuff very clever. Irony Of It All is very well thought out, first album is full of that. The second one is a bit more of a novelty, it's almost like a story running through the whole album, clever, but a bit frustrating in places I think.

I can't explain it but I really like some of the tracks on it (Blinded By The Lights, Empty Cans) and just can't get on with other ones on it. Sometimes what he says seems really clever, and you think "yeah, I realised that as well", and sometimes I think he's talking total cods***.

Yeah - first album is still blidning. Listening to it at the moment and I still love it. Turn The Page, Weak Become Heroes and Geezers Need Excitement are near-perfect songs - and Stay Positive is just perfect. The best song about depression since The Smiths.

The second album's 'thread' (a bit of concept album) is an interesting way of doing it and a bit dodgy but the last track with it's 'twist' is so uplifting I don't care :)

I haven't got the album yet as I'm broke, but what I've heard is so-so. Two of the (most recent?) singles they've released have been very good though, I've just heard a couple of really duff tracks as well so not sure about committing to an album.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers are so amazing. By The Way is there best album, not to keen on there greatest hits album

Mr.BRFC
21-06-2004, 06:06 PM
I wouldnt say say BTW is the best it only has a few catchy hits on it, as Kiedis said: By The Way was more of a somophoric effort. Comeback albums like Californication which still is their best selling, and One Hot Minute deserve a good mention, considering One Hot Minute took over a year to put together, because of Navarro's style of play.
For me its Blood Sugar Sex Magik, it shows exactly what RHCP were aiming at from the start which was funk rock, however they managed to combine probably their most beautiful song in it which is of course Under the Bridge.
As for Greatest Hits..what more would you want, with their best collection on it, only I instead of Suck My Kiss Id have Around the World. SMK is a good song only it gets irritating halfway through

The album is good, can't match them live though. I saw them March 2003 and they were so-so, saw them again recently though (for free - my mate's band were the support :)) and I was blown away.

It's brilliant, soaring, guitar music with a few violins and stuff, it's a lot better than it sounds though.

Cooper Temple Clause + Radiohead + Mogwai is probably a fair reflection. I reckon you'd like it RG, couple of blinding songs on it, a real grower of an album.

They are on the cusp of something quite big, have recorded with Fierce Panda - an indie label who have launched the careers of Coldplay, Supergrass and Easyworld among others. They have also supported Hope of the States many a time.

They've also got 4 out of 5 stars in Kerrang for their debut mini-album and have got single of the week in there before as well. :)

Caught a bit of it Thursday evening when I got in, not bad, might have gone if I hadn't spent a fortune going to Glasto. Would love to see White Stripes live and there were a few others that took my fancy.

On Friday I saw "The Others" in London, they are just off to record their first album. If you see the vid to their new single "Stan Bowles" then look out for me, as I was at the videoshoot Saturday morning after no sleep, we had to play a bit of football, everyone was in a right state. I haven't seen the vid myself but should be in it somewhere, there were about 40 of us though.

I haven't been too impressed by the new Stereophonics album, although there are a few good songs I like.

Out of the most recent albums I've bought, I'm liking Kaiser Chiefs - "Employment" the most. Very impressed by it.

Oh right, well they seem to be extremely popular amongst my mates, I do like some of their songs though myself.

I listen to Launchcast. www.launch.com

I really enjoy it. When you rate a song that plays on your station, the rating affects how of then song will be played.

With over 4600 ratings, my station always plays the music I like.

If only it was portable :D

Looking into getting a couple of nas abums, will smith :o (not his new stuff he was better when he was a joke), jadakiss and hilary duff.

May also get kasier cheifs ablum the "oh my" single sounds aright (is that the title).

Bought the documentary from "the game". I was a bit unsure whther i would like the ablum especialy with all the "beef" between 50 and him to sell ablums. However im happy i did buy it his lyrics are good the beats are aright. Obviousely the production is good with the likes of kayne west and doctor dre etc. I would recommended rap fans getting this or downloading it. Woudent be suprised if this is my faviourite rap ablum of the year. :)

Ps: The masscre seems to be improving slighty. I think i like the stuff where he is intense but some of the other songs where he isnt as serious i dont like. I do find it funny how he is just trying to start feuds to sell ablums. I would not say he is at the top though artists like jay z and nas will always be above him imo.

21-03-2005, 09:59 PM
I've got 50 cent's new album and it's alright, got to really be in the mood for it though. I think 50 cent is a bit weak on his own but rapin with somebody else he's class.

Snow Patrol - Final Straw is an amazing album, How to be dead is a class song and the lyrics are class as well as a good beat.

Embrace - Out of nothing - class, someday, ashes, gravity are all class. Bad thing is there's only 10 tracks on the album, better to have 10 quality tracks than 18 and some crap ones though.

Eminem encore is good, the bravery are alright and how to dismantle an atomic bomb by U2 is naughty.

and this is trueblue by the way, should have mentioned that. :o
