I think that DPT are quality, not as good as The Libertines but about on pair with Babyshambles.

The Raconteurs are also good (not a touch on The White Stripes though). Haven't really listened to iForward,Russia! that much, should do really though.

I want something other than another Libertines-influenced band. There's a lot of bands now who have just listened to Up The Bracket and copied the music, attitude - it's time for something different...

Currently listening to the Now Show, a radio comedy programme that me and my friend went to see them recording last night. Very funny, especially the epic song about the Eric Carle story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

I took the girlfriends car into work today cus I fancied a change and she wanted to use mine, I very very quickly decided that friggin Corinne Bailey Rae wasn't really the CD for my drive in I scratched around her glove box and found MY copy of The Strokes (room on fire)

Holy Moly, that's a damn fine CD sir !!

Got into work and opened iTunes and filtered for 'strokes' which pulled up all their albums and demo's etc.

So, today ..... I shall be mostly listening to the Strokes (currently Reptilia, but I keep getting pulled back to Clear Skies - damn fine track that !!)

Just stumbled across a pretty decent new band called The Fratellis,

They've been described as a cross between T. Rex and The Libertines. I know it's yet another Libertines influenced band, but personally I can't really see it all that much I think that there is some sort of Arctic Monkey's vibe creeping in during some songs.

Currently listening to a track called 'Creepin up the backstairs' by them - worth a listen if you can get it anwhere. Actually they've got a couple of myspace profiles.

Not that most people would care or have even heard of them, but the new album by Mono (as mentioned in my signature) is absolute class - just finished listening to it for the fourth time in the last couple of days.

Japanese post-rock greatness, as produced by Steve Albini (who produced Nirvana's In Utero album as well).

It's very good indeed. Very similar to Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

I wrongly overlooked that when compiling my top ten albums for this year so far. It's high up though, maybe top five.

Listening to some more Bob Dylan today - downloaded three albums of his later stuff last night. I think I'm up to 25 albums of his stuff now...

Primal Scream - Riot City Blues.

Cracking album !!

I have been a big Primals fan on and off for (my God  ) 15 years now, but they've got all rock again (like when they went off the rails with the album ""Give Out But Don't Give Up"). I've heard the single, and another track off the album and I'm just not impressed.

I like Primal Scream, I've got all their albums, Mani (the bassist) is the only ex-Stone Roses/Primal Scream bassist I've had beers with (name drop time ;) ), but so far there's zero hope for the new album...

Blimey ive just gone a bit mad, bought about 10 cd's and 20 records!

Some gems on vinyl such as depeche mode - enjoy the silence, gary clail - human nature and bronski beat - smalltown boy.
But also alot of disco type housey stuff and some good ol techno too.

Cd highlights are the new chili's album (portman road soon for me!), gnarls barkley, best of the kinks, andy williams and putsch 79.

that lot should keep me going for a while, now where to start!

It's taking me a while to get into it really - I got the Destroyer album at the same time and that's the same ilk of music (and same strange singing style) and it's obviously a homage to Neutral Milk Hotel, but the Destroyer album is so much better...

Anyway, the Pipettes - just can't get into them. Had a few songs from them on various downloads and CDs and they just don't float me boat. Perhaps I need to hear them on a sunny day down the pub for me to get it - a rainy evening at home isn't the same!

I haven't stopped listening to Masters of Reality recently

I finally managed to track down a copy of Sunrise on the Sufferbus so I have all their records now

they are all great but Deep in the Hole is the best, Third Man on the Moon must be one of the best opening tracks ever

it's stoner rock/blues/progressive rock and you can see influences from Bowie, Rolling Stones, QOTSA, Tom Waits, Led Zeppelin,

Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri play on a couple of the albums and Ginger Baker plays drums on one album

Give Us Barabus is also great, it's a lot less heavy than the others but reminds me of sides 3 and 4 of Physical Graffiti

apart from that I have got Jerry Cantrell's Degredation Trip, really heavy and dark music, great stuff though, even better than any of the Alice in Chains records

Is that the Kaiser Chiefs new album Lap of Honour I think it's called, I've got it but am yet to listen to it, I thought I'd give them a second chace even though the first album was very poor.

I'm currently listening to The Zutons new album - it's excellent. Anybody see the programme about them the other night on C4?

I wouldnt class it as indie, its like a cross between girls aloud and pet shop boys and adam and the ants

Pure pop :cen:

I would class it as a Busted or Mcfly for a more mature audience. Some of their songs were ok though but some were failures

yer must admit keisar chiefs is so terribly bad, but does take a while to realise it. wonder if the new album is getting as much over hype as the last?

okay I wouldnt no what Kaizer Chiefs music is as I dont listen to much radio or media influanced music.
I despise when bands sacriface creativity just to please record labels.
It sounded like an Indie type of band name lol

I wonder who told him to get that, and who gave it to him...

And I totally agree with you OPETH, I can't stand bands like the Kaiser Chiefs, not only is there music annoying, they are arrogant and they just want to please the record companies!

However you can get some really good indie bands, who have absolutely amazing music in their songs, and even if you don't like the music I'm sure you would probably appreciate that it is good.

Been listening to a bit of Eighteen Visions over the last few days, one of their songs just starting playing on shuffle songs on my ipod so I thought I'd give it a go, they're quite good IMO.
The main songs are probably I should tell you... , Bleed by Yourself, Waiting for the Heavens and Gorgeous, they're all quite good actually, give em' a try.

I've heard "The Adventure" and few other of there songs but not the whole album. From what I've listened to and heard their pretty poor IMO.

Remember not to chat too much on here about leaked albums ;) And always say you're going to purchase it once the album is released properly...

Virtually all of the Thom Yorke songs are available to sample (before purchase of course) via quite a few blogs. The Hype aggregator seems to have a good selection:

The guitar that Russell Lissack plays in Bloc Party is very complicated, and very effective and Bloc Party also use the bass a lot. Which is similar to iforward, russia! Whiska's can play some fanastic lead parts, and the bass is very prominent (spelling)

Both drummers are also very good!

So I can see where you coming from!

Both have made great albums, both completely different.
I subjected my family to Takk, which they hated, followed by Gypsy Punks, which they tolerated, on a car journey over the weekend. :drive: Naturally, it prompted the assessment: You have incredibly strange music taste.:o

I've only heard Start Wearing Purple which I thought was a bit naff but at least it was something different.

Have you only got Takk... by Sigur Ros? You need ( ) and Agaetis Byrjun. Both are better than Takk... in my opinion.

I downloaded an audience recorded bootleg of Daft Punk's set at Coachella festival from April this year. Wow!!! It is the best thing I've heard all year. Yes, better than any studio album released so far. They don't play live very often apparently so I guess they put their all into every performance. I think I can post a link as it's not illegal I don't think, but I'll wait for Peer to say yes first.

I think you can only post up links if the band allows them to be distributed for free, but I may be wrong.

EDIT: Whilst I remember heres a copy of my bands demo

Today I'm mostly listening to a few old favourites and some rarities - trying to get into Cocteau Twins and some 'shoegazing' stuff such as Ride and Slowdive (I love My Bloody Valentine, another shoegazing band, so it isn't too hard - they sound very similar).

Woooo, thanks George. I'll definitely come and see you play live when you get around to playing London or in a year or so I can travel to see you.

The Queen is Dead is absolutely brilliant and probably in my top ten of all time - but nowadays I tend to play Strangeways Here We Come instead. Not sure why; I think it's because I've heard TQID a bit too much. Both have virtually flawless tracklistings (there's not a duff track on either album - there's not many albums I can say that about), but SHWC edges it at the moment for me.

'The Smiths' is a good album but I've always gravitated towards their later output - Meat is Murder onwards.

Great song. One of my favourite cover versions ever.

The Knife version of that song is very interesting - check out the Knife's recent album Silent Shout if you haven't already - very good stuff.

Yeah - 'Loveless' and 'Isn't Anything', and the 'You Made Me Realise' EP. Loveless still gets played more than any of the rest, but I do love the Soon remix by Andy Wetherall as well (which I've got from a compilation). Showing my age, I remember dancing to that when it first came out :o
