Dr.Nick - Jizz in my pants is a great song, even better when a whole coach is singing along to it.

I doubled that post like an entendre.

Here's what Fat Mike of NOFX had to say about Avenged Sevenfold:

Quote:
"Avenged Sevenfold is the epitome of what’s wrong with rock and roll. They support Bush. Support the Iraq War. Wouldn’t accept a drink ’cause they have to play the next day, but tell everyone they party. And play to a ****ing DAT tape. However, a couple of them are decent poker players."

Green Day > Blink 182 :) Their album has been a long time coming as well.

Is it me or has 2009 been a pretty bad year for music so far? I know it's still very early, but of the songs and new artists who have been at the top of the charts most of them are commercial RnB crap or "popular" music by people with quite little talent.

hmm, i dunno, i was thinking AC/DC friday, Green day saturday and blink-182 sunday, but i've heard rumours about foo fighters, coldplay, arctic monkeys, even bloc party headlining, so anything could happen- there's lots of pretty big bands releasing new material this year, so theoretically there's lots of potential headliners. it won't be as heavy as rage and metallica though i don't think.

hopefully, the cribs headline the nme stage though, so i can go and see them instead, after i felt like i missed out on them so much last time.

edit, green day probably will i think just because there's been rumours since last year which haven't been quashed yet, and ac/dc self confirmed on their website, then realised they couldn't announce it yet and removed it, so unless they really want to make the lineup a surprise they'll still do it..

Green Day's new album release date hasn't even been announced yet! Will be nice to see them returning to Reading again, their performance in 2004 was brilliant. As for Blink's reunion - glad they are back together ess with Travis's accident and all. The rivalry is back on

I was just commenting on the music that's making it atm, doesn't mean I necesarrily listen to it. Anyway I'd rather not not get some advice from some weird hippy ;)

And yeah Dan chart music has been pretty awful for 5-10 years now but in other years I've still always found some acts that I've liked whether they've done well or not, but this year it just doesn't seem as likely :/

Well...

Foo's are on a break so they won't be back til at least 2010, COldplay won't play cos they wouldn't down well and FR probs won't have booked them for that reason. Bloc Party I can't see them playing a third year in a row.

eFests, which is usually really reliable for line-ups has Kings Of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead down to headline atm. Quite skeptical of that as KOL and AM are too similar and Radiohead haven't played R/L for something like 15 years and they were offered to play last year and turned it down. However, I'm starting to think it's possible. As for AC/DC they were down as a rumour along with Slipknot and Green Day but now all 3 have been removed.

i heard blur were gonna play too, that'd suck.

and it won't be kol, arctics and radiohead, there needs to be a heavy band in there somewhere, there's always someone heavy.

Blur aren't playing cos they're doing Oxegen, T In The Park and most likely Glasto. But it would be awesome if they did. AC/DC would suck balls. Except for Back In Black, which I wouldn't waste 2 hours(?) of my life to see.

Yeah, I went last year. Don't think I'll be going this time, though.

Erm, Sonic Youth have said they'd like to play a festival in the UK this year, though that would most likely be Glastonbury. I think someone like Spiritualized or Sigur Rós would be nice on the Sunday, too. Boredoms or Atmosphere would be amazing, but that's never gonna happen. I think the Coachella (http://www.coachella.com/images/mainPoster.jpg) line-up has some really good bands this year.

Also, I think I'm reading too much into this, but I wasn't trying to imply that a Libertines reunion was a stupid idea or anything.

I'd love The Strokes to play. I don't listen to them as much as I use to, but they'd pretty much make the festival for me. Nirvana when they are live, all the atmosphere came from Kurt. Krist always just seemed to be there :/ especialy in the unplugged show.

Another point if Krist had of blew his own head off do you reckon Nirvana would have been as infamous.

It's a pretty well known fact that Krist and Kurt would argue about pretty much everything. They'd never try and squeeze another out the band, though; it wouldn't be fair since they'd both been there since they were a Creedence Clearwater Revival cover band in the early days. I don't want to try and paint the picture that they disliked each other, as they obviously didn't, but Krist was way more than just someone in the background.

Add that to the fact he's a political speaker (he founded JAMPAC) and writes a weekly newspaper article where he writes about his opinion on current events. Not to mention the work he does in the underground music scene, too.

Whereas you've got Dave Grohl, who optimizes everything Kurt and Krist hated.

I didn't say they hated each other. I said they argued all the time.

The public obviously focused on Kurt, as they do with every other frontman, but Krist was no stranger to giving his opinion.

I disagree Drinky, in the sense, if you watch interviews from the time, Krist was just as vocal as Kurt.

Lithium, You Know Your Right, About a Girl, Heart Shaped Box, Pennyroyal Tea.

Also I'd listen to 'the man who sold the world' a Bowie cover and 'Were did you sleep last night' a Leadbelly cover.

Bleach is their first album is ok, but is easily their worst. I'd buy Nevermind and In Utero though, if you like them, or just download them.

Downloading all The Door's albums at the moment.

Greendays new album isn't going to be like their older stuff but more 'American Idiot', going to be a rubbish album then. Blink had better get back to their good stuff.

Greendays new album isn't going to be like their older stuff but more 'American Idiot', going to be a rubbish album then.

From what I've heard I reckon it will be a mixture of American Idiot and their older stuff. You've got to remember these guys are nearing 40, they are not the 21 year old stoners they were back in the days of Dookie and Nimrod. The American Idiot singles were badly overplayed but if anyone listened to the other songs on the album then they would know how brilliant it is, its such a clever, well worked album. I'm getting annoyed how people are saying this will be American Idiot 2 etc, The album before American Idiot had a political song so it doesn't work that way. If people do actually bother to listen to this new album I can guarantee you it will sound different from American Idiot.

Yeah, I've heard it. Can't say I had very high expectations beforehand, though; I thought 'I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris' was quite weak for the lead single. I think the album itself, however, is pretty good, considering where he is in his career and everything. It seems solid throughout: I couldn't pick out any particluary bad songs, but I couldn't pick out any that could stand against his best work either. I'd say 'I'm OK by Myself' is probably my favourite at the moment.

Brand New, they're huge in America. Not as appreciated over here, people would rather listen to sh1te like Hadouken or Enter Shikari then a band with genuine talent!

All of their albums have been different too, the first was pop-punk, the second was more alternative/post-hardcore(ish), and the third was really dark.

Mostly American post-punk and hardcore stuff from the 1980s. Mission of Burma, the Minutemen, Hüsker Dü and Minor Threat, with a bit of early Seattle grunge like Mudhoney. I'm really into Wavves at the moment, too. The B-side to their latest single is really good.

After seeing The Cure on the NME awards last night I listened to Disintegration twice today, as well. I don't usually like an album to be much over the hour mark, but it just works so well with that. The NME Awards as a whole was really dull, though (which is to be expected, I suppose). They made constant digs at the Brits, implying it was one dimensional and corporate, but it's the same bands winning the awards on both of them. I thought it was quite funny when Oasis won Best British Band and got booed for it, though.

Every year or so "Punk Goes..." release a CD, either bands recording acoustic version of their songs, or covering songs. They've done things like Punk Goes Crunk, Punk Goes Metal and Punk Goes 90's etcetc.

This year they've done Punk Goes Pop 2:

Alesana - What Goes Around (Justin Timberlake)
Silverstein - Apologise (One Republic)
August Burns Red - Baby One More Time (Britney Spears)
A Day To Remember - Over My Head (The Fray)
Escape The Fate - Smooth (Santana)
There For Tomorrow - Ice Box (Omarion)
Chiodos - Flagpole Sitta (Harvey Danger)
Bayside - Beautiful Girls (Sean Kingston)
Breathe Carolina - See You Again (Miley Cyrus)
The Cab - Disturbia (Rihanna)
A Static Lullaby - Toxic (Britney Spears)
Four Year Strong - Love Song (Sara Bareilles)
Attack Attack! - I Kissed A Girl (Katy Perry)

the Breathe Carolina one is possibly the worst song I've ever heard, but then again, Breathe Carolina are possibly the worst band I've ever heard

Baby One More Time is great though:

Sex on Fire, Use Somebody and to an extent Revelry have been ridiculously overplayed to the point initially decent songs are boring and lifeless. Besides, 17, I Want You, Notion, Cold Desert and Revelry are hands down better than Sex on Fire and Use Somebody.

Leeds_All_The_Way
18-03-2009, 07:02 PM

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH THIS SEX IS ON FIIIIIIRE

Inspiring, don't you think.

And surely when a band releases a record purely for the fact they're gonna make money from it, that's the point at which you start to think they're going in the wrong direction? Especially a band as brilliant as Kings of Leon, their older stuff was magical.

Leeds_All_The_Way
18-03-2009, 07:49 PM
Whats the point in having Music as a career if you arent going to make money off it?

Their older stuff was probaly 'magical' as it wasnt in the charts for very long nor was it as widespread as their latest album, nor did you have the main stream listening to it.

At the end of the day, a musician's aim is to make money, if I knew that I was going to make millions playing animal noises I'd do it, so would the majority of us, apart from the 'individual' ones.

Winning Days
18-03-2009, 08:01 PM
Making music isn't about making money at all. It's about playing music for people to listen to, simple as.

Anyone bought 'Grace/Wastelands'? If so, what do you think?

Leeds_All_The_Way

So if you asked any musician whether he wanted to play in front of 3 or 3 million fans he'd say?

If you asked a musician whether he'd want £30 or £30,000,000 or an album he'd say?

Do you not think there are some jobs more important than making an income, though? Jobs that offer an escape to people, provide them with memories and, perhaps, change their lives altogether.

I'd say a musician and a footballer are definitely two of them, y'know? You don't put your faith into a plumber or something, do you? Perhaps the individual, but not the profession. Whereas, there are some people who put their heart into a football team for their entire lives, and devote so much of their own time to them. And when you start to spoil that (be it through cheating or 'selling out', or whatever), that's when you start to take the **** out of all the people who really care about it. The people who've had their lives changed by a song, or ever cried at a football match.

I think you have a seriously depressing view on life if you value wealth so highly. It's not like you can take it with you.

Also, to be fair, you're estimation of playing infront of 3 people is quite bizarre.

Nicely put there Jimmy Jazz.

The change in the Kings of Leon is really sadenning for me and it sort of does feel like your star players from your football team as left for your rivals in a way. KOL first two albums were fantastic, the third was decent and then it comes to the fourth and it's the biggest sellout your ever likely to see. 'Sex On Fire' was a blantant marketing tool to launch them as mainstream band. Like someone already mentioned their early albums were magical and no doubt provided inspiration to lots of people. But now they've changed their style to boost album sales and sell out stadium tours instead of making good music. Now their music will be associated with chavs and just general background music. That's their choice at the end of he day put i'm dissapointed they've choosen that route. At least we've still got the first three albums to enjoy, they only way now for KOL is downhill.

terrier 4 life

Yes, I couldn't have expressed it any better than Jimmy Jazz, Niall or Grizfoot, that's exactly what I meant, I just couldn't be arsed typing it. :p

Thrice - The Alchemy Index, Volumes 3 & 4: Air and Earth
"What stands as remarkable, right at the end of this four EP project, is how it no longer seems like an "experimental" project for Thrice. Handled with a competence not seen the similar left turn Radiohead took on OK Computer, and with an almost fanatical attention to detail, any notion of pigeonholing Thrice by their roots has long since been dead and buried. Awkward as this collection has seemed at points, it's been a necessary rite of passage for the band; and one that on this final album (certainly moreso than its predecessor) they've finally seemed able to complete.

Thrice have always had a fondness for Oxfordshire's most famous alt rock sons. Now they can stand shoulder to shoulder with them."
