I dont get this issue with 'mainstream' music. It seems you Adam aren't pleased if a song is being played. It seems you only like songs which you dont hear on the radio. Lets put it this way, if you put a JD song on a big radio your more likely to lose listeners than you are that Guru Josh song, which tbh is a good dance track. Why do I think if Sex on Fire wasn't played as much on the radio you would be up its ar*se.

If by Adam you mean me then you are wrong.

I like sex on fire, I like mainstream music. I dislike MCing and Screamo anything else i like.

And I said when 7 year old chavvy girls have it blairing on the back of the bus its usualy an awesome tune.

Anyway, been round to a mates must have made him listen to Use Somebody like twenty times. Best song of 2008.

Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection

"Don't waste your words; I don't need anything from you
I don't care where youve been or what you plan to do

I am the resurrection and I am the light
I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like"

looove it.

No-one can complain about overplayed songs unless you live in/around London and have listened to Capital Fm. In the space of 6-7 hours they can play the same song 3 times. With Disturbia they once played it 7-8 times in a day :mad:

SGR fM = the same.

except it loops every 2 1/2 hours. so the same song is then repeated later...

It was a brilliant album, I sat their swaying to every song, and I found it was one of them albums where I was entirely immersed in every track. Some good ones (But all of them were really) were, Roadhouse Blues, Peace Frog, Land Ho!, The Spy & Maggie M'Gill. :) As I say though, it was just one of them albums that hooked me in and I could not get enough of it.

It's an interesting one to start with actually, as it was just after they'd experimented (unsuccessfully, I should add) with The Soft Parade so they went for a back-to-basics approach. My favourite songs would probably be 'Ship of Fools', 'Waiting for the Sun' and 'Maggie M'Gill', though I wouldn't skip any song on that album.

Same here, and well, he's copying it on to a CD for me and sending it up. Despite this, I probably will buy it in the future.

I wouldn't bother. That's Acid Eaters, a cover album they did in the '90s, so it's labeled wrong for a start. I haven't heard it, though, so I can't say whether the actual album is bad or not, but I think you should get one of their early records (any of the first four) to begin with.

You aren't really a music fan if:
1 - You actually use the headphones that came with your iPod.
2 - When asked the best gig you went to recently, you reply 'Glastonbury'.
3 - You've bought an 'authentic-looking' band t-shirt from Topman.
4 - You think Guns N Roses are a really 'heavy' band.
5 - You think gigs that aren't in arenas are 'intimate'.
6 - On your Facebook profile you describe your music taste as 'I like a bit of everything really!!!'
7 - You think support bands exist purely to give you time to go to the bar.
8 - You think Jo Whiley knows what she's talking about.
9 - You can't remember the last time you bought a CD.
10 - But you can remember that AMAZING Leona Lewis song you downloaded the other day.
11 - You buy an album because you liked the single, and then skip through all the other tracks just to listen to it.
12 - You think people who talk about bands you haven't heard of are pretentious.

1 - Mine broke :o
2 - Much rather go Reading/Leeds than Glastonbury
3 - Topman sucks. Buy your shirts from gigs.
4 - Lol. Don't be silly
5 - Lostprophets was the biggest gig I've been to, and the most 'intimate'
6 - 'Everything' usually means whatever is on the radio. I hate the radio.
7 - Support bands exist to pi$$ me off. Unless I like them
8 - She's a tool.
9 - Months ago. Our Last Night.
10 - The word 'amazing' is thrown around too carelessly.
11 - Most of the bands I listen to don't release singles
12 - I don't find Jimmy Jazz pretentious.

Are you a 'real' music fan :p

1 - No, me and headphones simply do not get along, I've been through about 100 pairs this year.
2 - Glasto doesn't even slightly appeal to me. Leeds is where it's attt.
3 - Topman disgusts me.
4 - Guns and Roses are about as heavy as Miley Cyrusss.
5 - Lol, what.
6 - People who do that annoy me, it shows a lack of care.
7 - Support bands can be really good and enlightening... or they can be f#cking awful.
8 - I HATE JO WILEY. :@
9 - I got the two Streets albums and Seasick Steve about a month ago
10 - Lol, that's a question of vocabulary. I use amazing if it applys...
11 - Sometimes a single is all you hear of an artist... If the rest of the album is sh#t, I'll only listen to the single...
12 - They can be.

I thought 'A Cross The Universe' was kinda poor to be honest. Pretty much none of it is done live, or mixed - so the album is pretty much like listening 'Cross' with a live audience. The DVD of the tour is crazy good though, but again, the guy that does most of the work, Xavier, gets up at the front of the crowd and starts jumping about (clearly showing he's doing fook all live), seems like a crazy gig to go to but imo the CD ain't worth listening to, it's just the album.

Justice are lazy bstards though, they've take minutes to make mixes and get them rejected for playing them at clubs, which obviously isn't common.

DVD of the tour is great though as I said, you seen it? The bit where the other guy hooks up with the girl that looks like Xavier?

Aha nah I haven't seen the DVD, and I know where you're coming from, but I don't have the whole of 'Cross' so I guess that's why I like it so much. The crowd seemed to love it.

I was gutted they played at the same time as Bloc Party and The Killers at Leeds, I really wanted to see them, I bet they'd be amazing live.

Patrick Wolf has asked fans to help cover the cost of his new album by becoming shareholders in it.

Wolf is using the website Bandstocks to help fund the album, 'Battle', which is set to be released in spring 2009.

All fans have to do to become a shareholder is sign up to Bandstocks and pay a £10 fee that Wolf says will help him cover production costs of the album.

Speaking of the venture, Wolf said: "It's the beginning of the future for artists and musicians in the music industry. There's no way we can rely on conglomerate, corporate companies anymore.

"Basically, you can invest in the finishing of the album and the production of it, and you get a share in the album. So you almost become part of the recordcompany, like a co-owner of the album."

Shareholders receive a number of benefits, including exclusive gig tickets and limited edition albums.

Speaking of 'Battle', Wolf said he had intended to make a double album of "dark and solipsistic record with no hope at the end - very much how I felt".

However, a change in his relationship status forced the record to take a new direction. "Something fantastic happened just as I was about to start that journey and I had all these songs to record - I fell in love," he explained.

Wolf says that the record is still a double album though: "One disc is a pure nihilistic battle record, and the second is battles of love."

The album will be released on Wolf's own recently launched record label Bloody Chamber Music.

I've always had mixed opinions on Slipknot's shock rock credentials, really. I mean, Alice Cooper essentially re-enacts a full horror movie in one of his shows, which, in the '70s especially, the crowd genuinely thought was scary, but it's all been done now and no-one finds that sort of thing the least bit intimidating anymore. Manson went further by adding a more sexual aesthetic into his act, but, again, these days that's not enough. However, with Slipknot, they don't actually do anything. They don't put on a full theatrical show like Alice Cooper or Marilyn Manson. All they have is this sense of mystery to them, but is that the whole point of it all? Have they resorted to this almost animalistic minimalism purposely? Like when punk came along and destroyed everything progressive bands were doing, or is it that they just couldn't think of anything else? At the end of the day, though, I suppose it's working for them, whether it's intentional or not. I was pretty disappointed when they pulled out of Leeds at the last minute, to be honest; I would've liked to see them.

Snow Patrol didnt want her to cover it...

I heard them say somehwere that she did a very good cover, doesnt mean they didnt want her to do it.

EDIT: I checked wiki,
The song has been received positively amongst many although Snow Patrol guitarist Nathan Connolly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Connolly) admitted in November that he still hadn't heard the song: "Nothing against her, but I don't know if I'm going to endorse it either. It is what it is."[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_(Snow_Patrol_song)#cite_note-14) In December 2008 Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody described Lewis' version of the song as "phenomenal". He told the Scottish newspaper Daily Record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Record_(Scotland)): "She obviously studied the song and thought long and hard about how to interpret it. She's stripped it to its bare core. I think she sounds absolutely phenomenal. I'm not a big fan of shows like The X-Factor, but when talent like this comes along, I can't slate it. She's going to be around in 20 years. She's the next Whitney (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitney_Houston). She takes my breath away."[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_(Snow_Patrol_song)#cite_note-15)

Music Radar said that "The two versions couldn't be more different. Snow Patrol's rendering is dark and moody, while Leona Lewis's is big-time pop", and quoted Gary Lightbody as saying "That's what you want a song to do ... Different interpretations and meanings. Songs aren't monolithic, at least the good ones aren't. What Leona Lewis has done has touched hearts."[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_(Snow_Patrol_song)#cite_note-16)

Muse had tentatively started work on their fifth album in 2008. Drummer Dominic Howard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominic_Howard) explained that the band wrote a few tracks ahead of their headline V Festival slots (16-17 August) and would head back to their studio near Lake Como (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Como) in Italy. Speaking to BBC 6music (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BBC_6music), Howard said, "We're working on new stuff and we're gonna have a couple of weeks off and then in about two weeks time we're back out to Italy to start writing again". He also added, "We've already done a few tracks and it sounds great, so we're just working towards the future".[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]

In a Q&A with fans on the official Muse message board, Wolstenholme stated that "It would be nice to have the album out in the second half of next year (2009) but we have not set ourselves any targets. It is more important for us to make the best album we have made to date and if that means it comes out in 2010 then we don’t mind. Hopefully it will be sooner though".

Been listening through, 'Strange Days' by The Doors. Currently on the last track, 'When The Music's Over'. The album is very dark, but it seems a lot of the time that Morrison's vocals are floating off each instrument in sense, perfectly in key. Personal favourites are, 'People Are Strange' & 'I Can't See Your Face In My Mind', mainly the latter for the quite psychedelic but brilliant music. Altogether, through listening once, an album possibly ahead of it's time in terms of sound, very good.

I'd agree with that. I think that album, in particular, was a huge influence on the '80's post-punk scene. I love the fact that this record, without a doubt their darkest and most eerie, was released at a time when everybody was still in the Summer of Love.

I'm not really big on the singer songwriter types, but Donovan and Neil Young come to mind. For that Beatles and early Pink Floyd sound try The Small Faces, The Byrds, The Hollies, The Mamas and the Papas, The Beach Boys, The Zombies and The Animals. Or for a more modern take on things check out Yeti and The Aliens.

I'd second The Kinks, too, and there isn't much better than the Stones' early work. You could, however, save yourself some time and just skip to the best (albeit it radically different) band, The Doors.

I didn't get the hype about the Fleet Foxes record, to be honest. I liked it (I think it was thirty-something in my end of year list), but, for me, the vocal harmonies weren't enough to distinguish them from Iron and Wine, Bon Iver, Alberta Cross or any of the other bands making similar music.

Overall, though, I thought there was some very good music produced in 2008, and, Drinky, if you genuinely believe that there were only two bands that made worthwhile music in the whole year, I don't think you looked hard enough. I'm not talking about searching through MySpace for hours; there are plenty of artists releasing albums at the moment who make interesting music.

I'm hardly criticizing him. All I'm saying is that it wouldn't be surprising to see him in a couple of months time listening to records from the year that he originally missed out on.

I think it's pointless to sit around and complain while you wait for something that you like to break into the mainstream. It could take years. I believe there's something out there for everyone, and on the rare occasion that there isn't you should make it.

If a band usually breaks into the mainstream and it fits into my criteria then I'll listen to it.

I dnt see the problem with downloading music or buying it, it's that I'd rather have well earned cash on other things which could affect my life.

Theirs probaly only 5 bands which I'd buy every album of them, The Strokes, The Jam, 3 Doors Down, Bloc Party & The Killers, I pretty much like every track of theirs.

Thats not to say I dont like other bands, but I'd buy any album of trance which for me is easily the best genre.
