It doesn't matter how original you are, if you're not good enough you can't be considered great.
Yes, that's exactly what that quote means.
Anyone can be original, but finding that balance is the true art.

Been listening to this recently, only just realised its importance for today, especially with the line "7 years has gone so fast" in the first verse. Not to mention that it is a f8ckin immense performance :D. Its still a bit confusing whether the song has any connections with 9/11 though...

I doubt it with it being released only 3/4 years after 9/11 and 'cos it's about Billie Joe's dad =/ Probably nothing more than The Smiths/Princess Diana thing.
I can understand it's relevance to TODAY though.

In connection with the AI album its 11th on the track list and dated September 10th in the liner notes so there may be a connection but yes it is mainly to do with BJ's Dad dying in September 1982.

Parts of it aren't as good as older stuff but parts of it are. I'd liken it most to probably Master Of Puppets but that's only the slightest likeness as they've set out to make a new, different album which is what they've done. A definate return to form and worth buying.

Considering getting that even though it's gonna be available on GH4 aswell which I'll be getting. The reason being, I've already spent a bit on songs on tracks and whatnot for GH3 so I'm gonna need a reason to keep playing it aswell as GH4. Also there's another decent looking pack for GH3 with Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs so I might get that too.

I tried to get all the major 'genres' in, really. The post-britpop decline (Coldplay), the major rap songs (which were very popular at the start of the decade especially), the first Pop Idol single (which started the whole 'anyone can be a star' phase) and, of course, the still popular indie, emo (which seems to be dieing out lately) and new-rave scenes.

Been listening to We Are The Ocean a lot, trying to figure out what the buzz about them is. And tbh, I'm failing to see why they are so highly rated =/ The singer wants to be Dallas Green, but fails. There is too much singing aswell imo, after a while the decency of the voice looses all novelty after a few listens. Should be more screaming, so that when the other guy does sing it acts as a balance to screaming. It's not very technical either, and as such, the musicianship isn't great. I've always found bands without good musicanship to be kinda shallow for me, and boring after a few listens.
They are all only like 17 though, so there is potential there. Shame though that they are attracting all this hype and attention, people will be quick to bring them down.

I bought the Metros' album today, More Money Less Grief. I saw them at Leeds Festival and I thought they were pretty good; they keep getting compared to the Blockheads as well. I wasn't expecting much lyrically, but I did think it'd have some catchy pop songs on it. I'm really disappointed on first listen though; hopefully it will be a 'grower'.

I found some Nirvana bootlegs in the market today: Mindblower (which is a live show from the Palace in Melbourne, Australia), Swap Meet (live recording from the Rosklide Festival in Denmark, June 26, 1992) and one called Trust No-one (which doesn't specify where it was recorded). The guy has another one, Outcesticide IV - Rape of the Vaults (which has various early demos), but I couldn't afford it.
It's only about two weeks 'till Dig Out Your Soul is released as well which I'm looking forward to (even though I've heard mixed opinions of it).

Fabrizio Moretti's new band, Little Joy, have put some songs up on their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/littlejoymusic). You get the feeling the Strokes' next album (expected next year) will be their last, what with Albert and Moretti having other musical commitments, Julian's desire to make a more experimental record and Nick's aspirations to make heavier music.

That's sad news. Wasn't really that impressed by either of Albert Hammond Jr's albums. Whatever projects they go onto after they won't beat The Strokes in my opinion. I can't see Julian forming another band, though, for some reason. I'd imagine he'd just start to record under his own name if the band do eventually split up. It's better they part ways for musical differences, though, and they pursue what they really want to do at the moment, rather than so many bands that have to break up because of drug addictions or members falling out with each other. So, I suppose, that's one way of looking at it.
Wasn't really that impressed by either of Albert Hammond Jr's albums.

I couldn't care if Gerard Way has took influences from Billie Joe, Green Day are huge, punkish bands grew up listening to Green Day, how could they NOT be influenced by BJ? Just because some of the newer frontmen today are influenced by some of the classic frontmen doesn't really mean they are not good.

I'm not just talking about American Idiot. You can go back another ten years for when they shunned any punk credentials they may have had in the first place. It's punk taken down to its most accessible point, a point where it's stripped down of any originality and doesn't reflect any of its history at all, except in the three-chord song structures.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! You can't scrap genres, think of all the pornogrind fans :(
Well, Harcore is like this:
4UhW8MTzaNM
And Post-hardcore is more like this:
32rRtt6hF94
They are generally similar. Hardcore is heavier (but not to be confused with Metal, that's why we have Metalcore, Hardcore + Metal = Metalcore) Post-Hardcore has more singing, and as such, is not quite as heavy as Hardcore.
This is Metalcore:
Tfu9q-CQU-M
Hope that helps.

Dirty Pretty Things have split up.
In an exclusive statement to NME.COM (http://www.nme.com/news/dirty-pretty-things/40139) the foursome – Carl Barat, Didz Hammond, Gary Powell and Anthony Rossomando – announced the dissolvement of the band that formed in 2005 following the split of The Libertines.
In the statement frontman Carl Barat said that the members of the band would be pursuing new musical projects, but that these would not involve The Libertines.
"It is with some sadness we announce the farewell of the Dirty Pretty Things," the statement read. "It's been a glorious three years which we all would gladly live out again, but it is time for us to try new things. (not The Libertines).
"We are reluctant to give up touring but will give the last waltz everything. We have and are determined to go out as we came in, after which we all have other ventures to be getting on with and splendid future plans.
"Heartfelt thanks to all who made it what it was, much love and we'll see you on the road."
Grizfoot

The overuse of the phrase 'not The Libertines' makes you think they are hiding something. ;)
Dirty Pretty Things were a decent band, two good albums but not exactly life changing. I seriously do hope The Libertines reform, there is a seriously possibility since Carl has played a couple of shows with Pete recently. Despite what that article says I'll still remain hopeful.

Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire
Never listened to anything else by them but I like this song so off to go download some more.
KOL are a quality band a bit 2001 though. Although Sex On Fire isn't even the best on their new album (which is their forth by the way). The songs been overplayed so much it's killed that song as much as a love KOL that song just annoys me now. All the albums have been slightly different my favourite would probably have to be their third album, Because Of The Times.
If you like Sex On Fire check out some of their other stuff. Which is even better in my opinion. On Call is a cracking tune 10x better than Sex On Fire.

The Neil Young and Crazy Horse inspired band Alberta Cross, are set to re-release their debut EP "The Thief & The Heartbreaker" later this month.
Previously described as "windswept, classic rock" by Uncut editor Allan Jones in his four-star rated review in 2007, the Anglo-Swedish songwriting partnership of Terry Wolfers and Petter Ericson Stakee borrows much from Young, Van Morrison and The Band - and the now out of print EP will be available on CD and to download from October 20.
Alberta Cross, now expanded to five members, have also been handpicked to support Oasis on some of their forthcoming UK arena dates, as Noel Gallagher is a longtime fan.
They are also due to play a one-off headline show in London on the 22nd.
The band are currently working on their full length debut album, due for release next Spring.
Alberta Cross play the following shows with Oasis:
Bournemouth BIC Arena (October 20, 21)
London Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen (headline show) (22)
23rd Cardiff International Arena (23, 24)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe this; I wish they were playing with them in Sheffield. Everyone should own a copy of their EP, it's amazing.

Paul Weller used to be for the common man, but in an interview the other month he said he ain't sending his kids to a state school as it's full of idiots. He's changed, into an arsehole.

Thats quite hypocritical if his music was to represent the typical working man in Britain =/

Indeed, I was quite shocked myself. He's changed, for the worse. Oh well, still remembered for his Jam days more than anything. His solo work was a bit, bland?

I didnt mind him solo, I got '22 Dreams' and its worth a listen, although it wouldn't put a scratch on Jam.
I wasn't exactly a massive fan ofhim whilst he was part of the Style Council tbh.

Listening to Miley Cyrus is worse than watching a dog being rugby tackled by the captain of the Finnish under-21 vollyball team while being inappropriately touched by the man with eyes on his hands from Pan's Labyrinth.

Towers of London—Fizzy Pop
OK, the Towers of London, pretty much forget everything you can remember about them, or, more specifically, Donny Tourette. If you take the record for what it is, a memento to the sleazy days of rock'n'roll, ala Marc Bolan, the Dolls and Guns N' Roses, you might appreciate that there is actually a few catchy songs on this. It's by no means a passage to the holy grail of music, but it isn't as bad as some of the reviews will no doubt be. Yeah, some of the lyrics are bad, 'that's why I wrote this little sonnet, you make me want to vomit' is an awful line, but, taken in the right frame of mind, it really isn't that bad. I'd give it six; maybe even six-and-a–half, out of ten.
