30-03-2008, 12:21 AM
You want to get Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution. Cracking albums. OOS will take a while to grow on you. But you'll fall in love with Absolution straight away I guarentee.

I have heard Bliss & New Born which IIRC is on Origin Of Symmetry, and I really like that song. Stockholm Syndrome, as it is highly rated I was actaully suprised I wasnt keen on it, great song but for some reason didnt see it as well written and sung.

Download iSproggler, find the iSproggler group on last.fm and get it from there.

It tends to be a bit sporadic for me though, sometimes scrobbles nothing.

Same, it's never worked for me either, always says 'Your iPod has nothing new to scrobble'...

I'll try that iSproggler thing though.

EDIT - I know why now, it won't scrobble unless set to automatically sync, and I do it manually. :(

Elbow's The Seldom seen kid - this is jaw droppingly awesome. Complex, engrossing and heartfelt. Their best yet.

Foals' Antidotes - skewered song structures, manic percussion, angular guitars and screaming effeminately over the top ... my idea if fun!

MGMT's Oracular Spectacular - Shickingly catchy tunes

STONE ROSES' first-bought from PLAY for 2.99 (I have it in vinyl also since jesus was a teenager). Reminding myself while listening that is touched by genius.

JOY DIVISION'S HEART AND SOUL BOX SET - Not just touched by genius but genius full stop . Really immaculate music.

I've heard quite a few, seen 'em live supporting Babyshambles at Manchester Apollo back in Feb too. Thinking 'bout seeing them again actually I thought they were really good. The crowd loved 'em, knew most of the songs, they seem to have quite a following, suppose it was a hometown gig though.

They're being bigged up allot by the media though, 'the next big Manchester act' and all that. Their debut album got a decent review in the NME (7/10), so it wasn't quite Definitely Maybe or The Smiths standard but the reviewer seemed pretty keen on making sure we don’t forget about 'em, ‘n’ that they still have allot to come after this.

Liam Fray (frontman) seemed pretty genuine too, before the gig opened up he was talking to a few fans, getting pictures ‘n’ that, talked to some in the bar after his set too.

Haven't heard the album myself though. But I think they’re quite good.

Just read that Courteeners review again. Stephen Street produced it, I don't really like his style tbh. He takes away that raw sound (what The Courteeners do have, especially live) and makes it sound more polished and controlled, he did the same with Babyshambles on Shotter's Nation.

He's amazing with pop records, he produced all the Smiths albums (except the self-entilted) but when it comes to a more raw sound he tends to take it away, and turn it into more like a pop record.

Would've liked to have gone to see them but their concert was sold out within about 48 hours. And yeah, they have been bigged up alot, but rightly so in my opinion. I've heard alot of comparisons to The Smiths aswell.

I'll probably buy the album tomorrow, and although I've heard the majority of the songs via download, I think you'll agree that's there's nothing like actually owning the album. There's been complaints off their stuff being ''too common'' and ''overdone'', which I disagree with.

Another reason I like them as much as I do is 'cause they grew up literally down the road from me.

Jimmy Jazz
06-04-2008, 10:01 PM

St. Jude - The Courteeners

it's nothing special tbh, the 7/10 given by the NME was probably a bit generous. i'm hoping it'll grown on me after a few more listens.

We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery

I had that a couple of weeks ago, I got so bored I turned it off halfway through.

Haven't listened since, but seeing as I'm bored to tears with most of my current music I'll give it a few more listens over the next few days.

Just listened through Is This It for the umpteenth time and, whilst it's clearly a very good album, I still can't see why it's so highly revered. I like the album, but it just doesn't seem to be on the level that most put it on.

New Found Glory - At Least I'm Known For Something
(the one off Burnout 3)

I've only got two tracks from Catalyst (this and Hit Or Miss), but I still think it's their best album!

Whats the new album like? The first one was great, but I've not heard such great things about the new one.

Ah, I haven't got it :/ I was just talking in general, I've had a realisation recently of how good he really is :p

Didn't know he had a new one out actually, I'll have a look next time I'm in HMV.

From what I've heard of it I'd say it's very similar to the last.

As Cities Burn - Son, I Loved You At Your Darkest. Easily one of, if not THE best album I own. Such emotion and passion, the lyrics and superb and the musicianship leaves many bands found wanting. Of Want And Misery: The Nothing That Kills - I urge everyone to give this track a listen if you don't mind a bit of screaming.

Should be seeing him in Sheffield next month. If you like Nick Drake, Neil Young and that sort of thing you should have a listen.

Simply brilliant band, new album due out this year. Suprised they aren't big already because their first album is wonderful. Maybe they'll get more recognisation with the release of their second album.

Pablo Honey is their poorest effort tbh, but OKC is nothing short of brilliant.

Yeah I'd agree with that, but Pablo Honey is the only one (I think) that isn't on my iPod and for precisely that reason.

And yeah, OKC is stunning, but that is the general consensus anyway of course.
