Anyone no much about the American Metal band Queensyrche ? Along with Opeth and Metallica there one of my favourite bands.
There style of metal is simular to Helloween, Hammerfall, Judas Priest or more well known Iron Maiden.
More talented than all those bands though, there music has something else. There not well known at all in the UK, but in the US between 1986-1993 they were a huge influence on the metal and rock scene.
The album from 1988 Operation Mindcrime is the bands undisputed masterpiece, it tells the story of a man who feels cheated by the law, joins an underground revolution which promises good, but only manipulates him using is drug addiction to deeds that the leader of the revolution need vulnerable people to do, such as murders and arsine.
Nicky (the story's character ) has to battle his own state of mind, and the revolution which has begun to run is life.
Anyway each song perfectly tells the story, and sets the mood, not only is the album a story but more than half of them are some of the best power metal there was in 80s. Songs like "I don't Believe in Love" "The Needle Lies" "Eyes Of a stranger" "Breaking the silence" and many more are all classics in this genre.
Anyone who is a metal fan, a rock fan, or a music fan who can appreciate innovative music would enjoy this album.
The album is an experience as you feel your in the story, you feel is emotions and despair through the songs there that well expressed.
Also 17 years later the Operation Mindcrime album had sequel, With James Dio the voice of Dr X (the underground Revolution leader)

Ahh skid row nether thought to compare there sound with skidrow but your right its similar. Well there 80s sound is similar.
If you listen to any of the songs from Empire, like silent Lucidity, Or the title track Empire it sounds very different. A little more mainstream and less power metal like really but still despite that does not loose qaulity.

Los Campesinos! are brilliant. I first head them when I think CF or Goerge Williams had 'Sweet Dreams, Sweet Cheeks' on their MySpace profile.:)
Talking of MySpace, few artists I've found and taken a liking to.
roma (http://www.myspace.com/romamusic) - Were offering their tracks as free downloads for about a fortnight, but have stopped. I really like them. They are in the top 50 artists on my last.fm
Ed Winslet (http://www.myspace.com/edwinslet) - Solo acoustic artist. Very good as well IMO. 'Bring Me Down' is a nice track, probably my favourite from him.
Scott Ashley (http://www.myspace.com/scottashleymusic) - Same as Scott Ashley, they do gigs with eah other and write songs together. Scott is a local lad however. Lives about a mile away. Can get tickets from him for £4 if I want to see him at the Sugarmill. :) Pretty good artist.
The Grams (http://www.myspace.com/thegramsuk) - I like. I really like.
Bejebus (http://www.myspace.com/bejebus) - Currently offeing 4 free downloads from their MySpace profile and are giving away a free 7 track CD if you message them. They are pretty good IMO.

:)
The Grams I were quite impressed by. Remind me of Hard-Fi.

Ben's Brother - Beta Male Fairytales
An easy-listening ballad-y album. Nothing exciting, but a good one to stick on the background and relax to.
'Rise', 'Let Me Out' and 'Carry On' are the highlights for me.
Anyone got Newton Faulkner's new album?
Quite like the two singles that he's released so far . . .

Same with me really. My mum's into like 60s and 70s motown and stuff like that. As for my dad his music tastes rather poor, with the exception of Kasabian:p

manfred man :) oldie blinded by the light
Tonight, it's been mainly Radiohead:) Looove Paranoid Android, Street Spirit, Karma Police, Creep and Myxomatosis. And pretty much everything else. I don't listen to them much, so it's nice to go back and listen.
But, interspersed (sp?) with Radiohead I've had a bit of Joy Division. And then stuff that I acquired tonight;
The Broken West - Down In The Valley
Calexico - Dub Latina
Calexico - Sunken Waltz
The Decemberists - The Legionnaire's Lament
The Jaguar Club - The Sirens
Neko Case - Hold On, Hold On
Russian Futurists - Paul Simon
Tokyo Police Club - Box
Wild Sweet Orange - Stupid Chords
Wild Sweet Orange - House of Regret
Wild Sweet Orange - Ten Dead Dogs
The Winter Sounds - Windy City Nights
And of course, a band that I noticed Rubber had reccommended to CF on Last.fm - Mono In VCF. I don't know if CF has listened to them yet, but I have. They are very good. Love 'Escape City Scrapers' don't know how many songs they've released, I've only got 3. Escape City Scrapers, Spider Rotation and The Only One.
