Anyone tried Breaking Benjamin, yet? I don't really know how to describe the genre, sort of soft rock? Meh. Just give them a sample, fahkin' amazing, I keep going to name songs that stand out, then I realise they all do. I will anyways:

Diary of Jane
Dance with the Devil
Skin
Medicate
Had Enough
Until the End
Follow Me

I could go on. < That's not a song, by the way. :)

Right now, I'm listening to Hundred Reasons - Kill Your Own. I watched them live at Nottingham Rock City on Saturday night and they were awesome! Give them a listen.

I agree, Ocean Avenue was better, but Lights and Sounds is still an awesome album. It definitely isn't 'poor'. The first few times I listened to it I thought it wasnt that good, but its grown on me a lot and now I absolutely love it.
It isnt as catchy as Ocean Avenue, its more mellow in parts. There is more diversity and spread though in Lights and Sounds with punkier tracks like Lights and Sounds and Rough Landing, Holly, and slower tracks like Words, Hands, Hearts and Two Weeks From Twenty.

Anyway, have you heard Yellowcard's EP they released between One For The Kids and Ocean Avenue called The Underdog? It was before they got their bg record deal with Capitol and the recording isnt as precise as their newer stuff, but the songs are amazing.

Listened to some proper music yesterday, watched a film, for the life of me cant remember the title! Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. Well anyway the soundtrack to it is awesome, very mellow. So I dug out some old C.D's and had a listen to-

Bob Dylan - The Best Of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen - Best Of, David Gray - White Ladder, Damien Rice - O, and then put some Dido on. Very varied.

Woke up feeling bit down this morning for various reasons. So trying to perk myself up abit. With the help of The Fratellis, The Rifles, Kasabian and Little Man Tate.

The Good, The Bad and The Queen's album is recommended from me. Not the best thing this year, but decent enough.

Yeah, got it last week and while it's slightly downbeat and world-weary throughout it's worth a listen or two.

Saw your 'best of the year' sig, the Shins are probably number one for me so far followed by Clap Your Hands (although that is a flawed record TBH) and, dammit, I wanted to hate the Klaxons but their album is really good...

The Of Montreal album just hasn't grabbed me so far though.

But I agree, after the dip in quality for 2006, I think this year's going to be a cracking one for albums. Bloc Party next week then Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes, Air, Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium, Patrick Wolf, Emily Haines, Pop Levi, Maximo Park and even Kaiser Chiefs all in the next three months, along with albums later in the year from Sufjan Stevens, Go Team and hopefully Franz Ferdinand. Great stuff.

Self titled and The Queen is Dead are better.

Also, Peer; when you said the CYHSY new album is flawed did you mean the first track? The lo-fi production on that song is awful, I thought I was listening to a bad quality leak, but it was a proper CD rip. The rest of the album is ace though. I can't work out why they used that version of the song, it makes no sense as they did a really great version of it somewhere, it was on an indie rock playlist thing.

Kaiser Chiefs condemn current indie scene
The Leeds group aren't impressed by new bands
Kaiser Chiefs have hit out at the current music scene, claiming the late 70s punk scene was far more exciting.

Drummer and principal songwriter Nick Hodgson believes too many bands are jumping on Arctic Monkeys' bandwagon.

Speaking to NME.COM, the drummer said: "There's so much **** in guitar music at the moment. You imagine an A&R man seeing this bandwagon, jumping on it and signing any old **** with a guitar around its neck.

"I was watching this film about The Ramones. It got me thinking how everything was so average nowadays."

However, Hodgson believes newcomers The Twang
could offer salvation.

He said: "Arctic Monkeys were the last of the best and we need something else now to get us out of it. Maybe it's The Twang."

Anybody listened to the twang ? Are they as good as he said .

That's part of the flaw - it's intentionally done like that, for some bizarre unexplained reason. The first track of the debut was strange (compared to the rest) but at least it introduced the album quite well - the distortion on the first track of this album is just annoying, especially as there's a good track behind it. It just smacks of the band trying something just to please themselves rather than the fans.

Additionally, the middle of the album sags as well - tracks 2-4 and 9-11 are great, but the experiments they try with the rest just don't work that well sadly.

Anyway, got the Bloc Party album on Monday and it's good but nothing much compared to Silent Alarm unfortunately - it's a 3 star album really so far.

Also listening to a new album by a bloke called Robert Gomez, who comes from the same town as Midlake (and is the support act on their tour that I'll be seeing in April) and it's very nice album - I suppose a bit like Midlake's album last year - 70s rock, but then slightly less 'folky'. Also got Deerhunter - Cryptograms, but haven't got into that yet.

One album that the critics are loving (according to Metacritic (http://www.metacritic.com/music/artists/fieldmusic/tonesoftown) and I just don't like is Field Music's "Tones of the Town". Had it for a few weeks now and it's just a bit dull - does nothing for me at all. I can see why they love it, as it sounds like the post-punk band XTC, but to me it's just boring.

Anyway, I'm personally looking forward to the Kaiser Chiefs album - it's like my guilty pleasure - I don't mind them at all. And Ruby's a good singalong song so I'm hopefully for the album - and it's good they're got a song called High Royds - that's a village about five miles up the road from here!

And also missing from my list of forthcoming albums list last week - Arctic Monkeys (although the album's title is again a bit naff), Maps, iLIKETRAINS and as Griz mentioned, Willy Mason. It's going to be an expensive few months!

I take it that's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

Their a very unique sounding band, good, but unique.

The singer sounds like his tonsils aare being blended by a food processor, and someone has tied a weight to his scrotum!

But it is a great album, namely "Is This Love?", and "In This Home", not sure what album their from, but I like them.

It's surprisingly good, I thought I'd hate it. Not particularly solid because there are tracks I skip but better than lots of gay indie going round at the moment e.g. The View, who are my new least favourite band ever (I never thought Hard-Fi would have that tag taken away from them...)

Been listening to lots of Silver Jews today...they're no Pavement, but a very good american indie band.

Been listening to a new song by two blokes from Brighton called 'Dans Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip' called 'Thou Shalt Always Kill'. Don't go 'who?!' - as if you wait a couple of months it will be everywhere. I'll bet yer on it - I first found it about a month back on a Myspace page and it's starting to get a lot of exposure...

The lyrics are absolute class as well - you can have a listen and sing along here:
http://www.goodweatherforairstrikes.com/test/2007/02/11/thou-shalt-always-kill/ (page is a bit buggered at the moment but you can download a low-quality version of the track through there).

Got the Pop Levi album this week - good, not great - sounds Led Zep/Mark Bolan-ish. The single, Sugar Assault Me, is really great though.

Other than that had some of the Arcade Fire new ones on virtually constant repeat - it'll end up being my album of the year I guess. Although the Shins is slowly becoming a firm favourite.

And yes CF - Panda Bear is really good - got the Bro's single towards the end of last year and I loved it then. One complaint about them that I have though is that a lot of the songs build up and build up but without any release at the end - lush to listen to but they need a bit of rock out at the end of a couple of them! A power chord here and there never hurt anyone ;)

Next week it's the return of Explosions in the Sky for some beautiful post-rock goodness - can't wait for that.

I've had the Good Shoes album yonks - top notch it is too. Look back in this thread, I was championing them last year at some stage.

Track listing (so that you can see how many songs that you've got)

In the city
Never meant to hurt you
questions & answers
Small town girl
Wrong & right
We are not the same
All In my head
Blue Eyes
Everybodies Talking
May Lannoye
Morden
Nazanin
The Photos on my wall
Valleyboy
Deathframe in Shed

Mind you, this may be all the demo's and ep's that you've got which someone has bundled it together and tried to fob it off as the album, as I've heard that Ice Age (?) is going to be an album track and that's not one that I've got listed on my 'album' above.

Still, a cracking band though. You got all of those above?

I'm listening to Plug In Baby by Muse - awesome band. I saw them live at Nottingham in November and they were amazing. I can't believe Arctic Monkeys won Best Band at the Brit awards and Muse didn't.

I like the Arctic Monkeys, but Best Band should go to an established band who have been consistently at the top for a while, like Muse, not a band who have had one album. Admittedly it was a good album, so its fair they won Best Album, but not Best Band.

Smiths albums, ranked in the correct order (best to worst):
The Queen is Dead > The Smiths > Strangeways, Here We Come > Meat is Murder :)

Speaking of the Smiths, Johnny Marr was in the Smiths and is now in Modest Mouse, on their new album: We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. The album is amazing. I have been listening to it all day and it is currently in my top three for 2007, could even be number 1. OMG, it's so good.

I can only assume you're talking about the new Modest Mouse record...

Their sound is how indie should sound. So much better than any british indie, released in the past few years.

Tell me what you think of the record. Where will you download it from?

REMEMBER not to talk about downloading leaked albums on here please - remember it's against the law. You can mention the album, but try not to talk about 'downloads', 'leaks' etc etc. This is a company forum after all and a lot of our business is lost to pirates.

And remember to buy or download the album legitimately and see the band in concert.

Cheers :)

Anyway, hit Fopp for the first time in a few months on Saturday - six albums bought. Loving the Decemberists album, and also great to finally get the Talking Heads debut album - an absolute classic.

Hopefully the new album from Explosions in the Sky should be on emusic.com either today or tomorrow and I can grab that - been looking forward to that for ages and the tunes they've released for it on the net have been really melodic post-rock goodness.

No, people say albums other than Nevermind, because of the success of Nevermind. It's a very good album, regardless of being very comercially successful. In Utero is their best though. Never bothered with Bleach, will do soon though.

Spot on about Nevermind and In Utero being their best. I know their unplugged cd is not an "album" but its awesome ...

You SHOULD get with Bleach soon as its completely different than their others in that its completely raw ... People may find it heavy but its great ...

I also have some bootleg lps from concerts they gave (including one in Bristol in 92 which I attended!!!) which are interesting.

Their recent box set is also nirvana (pun intended!) for anybody who loves them...
