Really now?! So what do you like instead ... Bon effin Jovi or some other boring sh*te I bet!

Anyways- been listening to:

The Jarvis Cocker Record - I wasnt prepared about how funny (witty) the lyrics are ... The musical arrangements take a while to get used to but thats what I think will give longevity to it. A definite 2006 highlight.

CSS -Cansei De Ser Sexy- They might be tired of being sexy (as their name suggests) but this groovy and bouncy record just oozes sex. Catchy songs and quite interesting combination of instruments. Another 2006 highlight that initially slipped below my radar.

Xiu Xiu - The Air Force- Stand up Mr Charlton Fan you re a godhead!!!! Recommended by the great man and I can only be extremely thankful to him as I wouldnt otherwise have gone for this emotional, affecting and deep experience of an album.

You're welcome. That album really does stand out from last year- love it.

Also- MUFC1990: Tell me why you think Arctic Monkeys are arrogant? I think you're one of those people who likes a band until they become over popular and get airtime on Radio 1 and you think you're cool for disliking popular bands. Arctic Monkeys were and still are a great little band, I really want to hear how they follow up their debut album. I hope it sounds completely different from the first.

I read somewhere there thinking of having a rap feel to it or something and also working with Dizzie Rascal. Now that would be completely different, But I cant see it happening. We shall see.

Currently -

I like quite different kind of musics, but normally I like quite calm rock new and old.

Favourite bands are hmm this is difficult, but if I think this moment those are:

Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi, Queen, The Beatles, John Lennon, Sean Lennon, Razorlight, WASP, Block Party, Muse, Oasis, The Sounds, The Zutons, The Kinks, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs and many many more :)

Is there fans of this kind of music at this forum ?

Very similar taste to me mate. Some of my tops bands would be The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Stone Roses, Stereophonics, Radiohead, RHCP, U2, The Jam/Weller, The Who, Razorlight, Bloc Party, Hard Fi, A.Monkeys.

As for Dizzie,The missus sister used to listen to him constantly, never really paid much attention to him though.

Jonny Borrel actually thinks Razorlight are the best band ever, so he's clearly arrogant and very stupid. I don't understand why you like those three and not Arctic Monkeys though... the beauty of different tastes in music I guess.

I just took a twenty minute break from revision to give the new Patrick Wolf album a little listen- heard the first five tracks: very impressed with them. Really good mix of this new popish sound and the darker well known sound. Check it out.

Didn't Oasis do that? First album was good so made the next five exactly the same and in my opinion they were all a bit rubbish (WTSMG had a few good tracks). I'm not saying I want Arctic Monkeys to become a psychedelic prog rock band, I just want something a little different from their first album.

I have about six versions as it is one of my favourite songs from my absolute favourite band of all time. I'm not going to send it to you though, one because I don't use MSN and two because I wouldn't want to pirate their material (they're just too special to me, sorry). You should go down to HMV or somewhere and you can probably pick up 'Substance' (the compilation of theirs with LWTUA on it) for maybe £5. It also features some more of their epic works. Joy Division are not a one song band.

Also, after the album has been released, Chester, the lead singer, is releasing another album from a band called Snow White Tan, his side project, i'm also looking forward to that.

Haven't heard the Cure's version. As much as I enjoy listening to The Cure, I don't think I'd want to hear it either. I think of Joy Division as religous folks think of God. The song is perfect enough for me. As you recommended it though, it would be rude not to check it out...

I once went to a Pulp gig and there was only 35 people in the audience (about three years before Common People came out) - even when I saw the Pigeon Detectives early last year there were more in the audience than that!

Been on a David Bowie fix today - quite a few months since I last really listened to him so it was good to go through his late 70s albums this morning and have a sing-along! Low, Heroes, Scary Monsters and Lodger all got played...

Chk chk chk :p

Haven't heard anything by them yet, might download the leaked album...

Yeah, chk chk chk is the one I'm used to. Got some earlier stuff by them which varies in quality but the new stuff seems more focused - a lot like a harder Hot Chip.

I prefer to try to Listen Sean Lennon the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono ! It sounds little bit like Beatles, but lot more calm and he have such a beautiful voice and I think they have good lyrics.

Lyrics are maybe too sad EVEN for me, but I dont think it's problem it just make me happy to listen sad songs sometimes. There's a link for musicvideo from YouTube (Sean's musicvideos are a bit strange)

Just got hold of 'The View - Hats Off To The Buskers' at long last. Been waiting ages. Really like the sound of it so far. It was early last year Arctic Monkeys released 'Whatever people...' I think this is the same sort of Vibe, maybe not as good. But time will tell.

Also, 'Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion' Not usually my cup of Tea, but that tune 'Grace Kelly' is catchy as. No Doubt I'll hate it by the end of the week. Not so sure of the album so far, but then again only had a brief listen. I'll give it chance. Sounds like Freddie Mercury.

Last purchase, The Cure Greatest hits, absolutely brilliant, only really started listening to The Cure, Anyone recommend a album of theres?

i don't rate nickelback to be honest

Any reason?

I think that they are fantastic, their music has emotion in it, and their newer stuff is more versatile than the older stuff (such as Silver Side Up)

They were also fantastic live as well...

Cheers Bud, may purchase one the weekend, I'm sure I'll pick em up pretty cheap at Music Zone or somewhere ;-)

Oasis - Up In The Sky (rare bootleg, live last year)
The View, albums really growing on me, specially first 5-6 tracks.

Have to say IMO, Kaiser Chiefs new tune 'Ruby' is laughable. Never rated them anyway.

Think Fall Out Boy's tune's ok, not usually my thing.

If you re relatively new to The Cure I wouldnt advise you to buy Pornography as one of your first records of theirs as its quite difficult to get in.

By all means get Disintegration, Head on the Door, Japanese Whispers and The Kiss.

Top album that Jamie T one - had it for a while and it's such a grower. I personally like Ike & Tina and Back in the Game (along with the obvious)

Currently listening to The View, not 100% sure what to make of them. They've got potential, I just get the feeling that they'll end up selling out like The Kooks who I can't stand. Hopefully they're not just another product of the "hype machine".

The Kooks are an average band at best, guilty of ripping their sound from others and getting a free ride on others prior success. The View seem to be a little more 'genuine', even though they do sound extremely like The Libertines (Superstar Tradesman - could sooo easily be done by Carl B & Pete D)

Sadly, these bands seem to be 10 a penny recently. The amount of un-original, souless, flash in the pan bands that you'll have forgotten about this time next year is sickening ............ take The Arctic Gobshytes for example.

I think that Jamie-T is a must have in a record/CD collection - you need a bit of everything.

With regard to others then here are a few that I would recommend:

The Rifles - No Love Lost
The Klaxons - Worth A Go
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Dirty Pretty Things - Waterloo to Anywhere
The Fratellis - Costello Music

and if you want something a little more 'relexed' then go for Ryan Adams.

And obviously which goes without saying - The Libertines by The Libertines (or Up The Bracket, that's nearly as god)

Include ...... The Best Of Groove Armada, and Stop the Clocks by Oasis and you're all set for the basis of a pretty decent CD Collection!

I'm the New Order fan around here - loved them since I was a kid. Get Low Life, Brotherhood and Technique, they are absolutely top drawer. Brotherhood is my favourite, but most fans tend to like Technique a bit more as it's more dancier/poppier.

They are indie-rock/pop but they had some brilliant melodies, some absolutely terrible lyrics (but they always sang them tongue-in-cheek - "Every little counts, when I am with you, I think you are a pig, you should be in a zoo") but killer songs. Different to Joy Division; Joy Division is middle of the night in a dank flat in Stockport, New Order is the sun going down in Ibiza while sitting on a bar terrace drinking lager.

Anyway - new-released albums for this week - The Good, The Bad and The Queen, I'm liking a lot, could be the first album of the year that'll feature in my "best of...", also got the new album by Field Music (intelligent pop from Mackems), Six Parts Seven (lovely relaxed post-rock), Yndi Halda (bloody intense GYBE post-rock), and the debut album by an LA band called The Broken West, which sounds like the Byrds mixed with Teenage Fanclub.

Also listening to Of Montreal's new one, downloaded the Bloc Party single, and I'll even try a bit of The View as I quite enjoyed the singles. And next week we'll have the Shins and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah albums - great to have new release albums back with us after a couple of months away...

But best of all - finally downloaded the White Stripes debut album from 1999, the only one I didn't have - criminal that I'd never had this before. It's genius.

Great definition of new order there, Brotherhood is probably my fave as well, I really like Power, Corruption and Lies as well and Movement is pretty good though it is more Joy Divisionish than their other records.

Picked up Audioslave's latest yesterday and was thouroughly disappointed, no where near as good as their first 2, also got Neil Young's After the Goldrush which I am really enjoying and have rediscovered Scarfo's Luxury Plane Crash from way back, well worth a listen if you can get your hands on it.

Im with RG on this one (and shocked that a man with as much taste as Charlton Fan has doesnt love them). They are one of my 4/5 favourite bands of all time (along with The Smiths, Nirvana, Joy Division and The Velvet Underground).

Most of their output has been AWESOME.

a) Movement (by far their weakest album), Power, Corruption and Lies, Lowlife and Brotherhood all have a lot in common with Joy Division but are lighter in tone.

In fact since Ian Curtis passed away they were getting further away from the JD blueprint with every release.

b) Technique is their poppiest and most accessible album.

c) Substance 1 and 2 as well as the Box Set contain probably their best music.

d) Their last two albums, Regret (if memory serves) and ... (memory completely f*cked) are quite upbeat.

e) Yes they did the best footy song ever: World in Motion, as well as the most successful 12 inch record ever (the seminal Blue Monday -since remixed a number of times).

New Order, Great band. Love 'True Faith', 'Regret' - One of me favourite tunes.

Had an awesome night last night, sat in my Awesome chair, turned the lights off, loaded up LMA and listened to The Good, The Bad And The Queen, as much as I despise Albarn I think he's come up tops here, great line up, great to hear Simon Tong back at the strings. My stand out track '80's Life'. Purely awesome.

Been Listening to The Klaxons this morning 'Xan Valleys' EP, really like the sound of these, funky stuff, a tad like Bloc Party I'd say. Wonna hear a ****ing banging tune then check out 'Atlantis To Interzone'

The Automatic - Raoul
Zamfir - The Lonely Shepherd (One for the movie buffs. QT)

I still honestly beleive that the Arctics are a flash in the pan - despite what you quite corectly point out, their album is the fastest selling album since Definitely Maybe.

Def Maybe came out in 1994, then Oasis followed it up a year later with the mighty Morning Glory

It's been a year since The Monkey's first album (a year yesterday actually) so lets see what their second album is like shall we. I bet you that it's not a patch on their first one, and doesn't even come close to the quality of Morning Glory (or Whatever People Say I Am)

If ....... and only if, the Monkeys can produce a 2nd album of something resembling quality music then I myself will be astounded.

Let's wait till April of this year to see what their second album brings, yeah it's probably going to go in at number 1 due to all the indie scensters that will rush out and buy it on the first day for some reason.

There are better bands than them around in the UK, in fact there are better bands in Sheffield at the moment at what they do, they're just 4 ordinary 19 yr olds who make slightly catchy indy music with the occasional humrous lyrics.

But anyway ........

'slightly catchy' bit of an understatement. There a top band. There second album will be great. Look what they released shortly after the album. 'Who The ****...' 4 more great tunes, that would have been good enough for the album. Also 'Leave before the lights come on' Awesome tune.

Not in the league Of Oasis, yet. But are a top band with real talent. Thy tell it how it is, they've got the Rock swagger and bit of cockyness to go with it. Nice to see some one with some *******s nowadays.

Hmmmmm, and what makes you the Guru of music all of a sudden.

I think that The Arctic Monkeys are tosh, have been pushed to the max by Smash hi ....... sorry The NME, causing all the indie scenesters to rush out and buy their records making it the fastest selling album .... yadda yadda yadda.

I don't think that they'll still be doing what they're doing come this time next year.

There are now other bands that the NME (and such like) are pushing such as The View, who will suffer the same fate.

They are hyped up to the max in order to cash in some seriously quick money for the record producers. It's all a PR game, with them hiding behind a band that are young enough to be pushed around.

Oasis05

I think they have the potential to be a 'big band', maybe not in the League of Oasis. And I seriously hope Kasabian take the batton from Oasis. I just think alot more people need to come round to them. They are a great band, awesome frontman, awesome musicians.

Lets leave it at that then - you either like some music or don't, flippin boring if everything was the same yeah. It's an 'argument' that could run and run, and I aint into that, plus this isn't the place to be doing it.

I'll wait and see what happens, maybe I'll be proved wrong, and if that is the case then I'll hold my hands up and admit it.

It's been done on this thread before by myself. Initially I HATED Razorlight, and especially Johnny Borrell, but saw them live at V Festival last year I think it was and now think that they are a cracking band - Still think that Borrell is a complete and utter pretentious wa****r though :)
