In my recent trip to St Petersburg where CDs are cheap as chips (the Tool cd cost me the equivalent of 1 pound sterling!!!!) I bought the following which Ive been listening quite a lot:
1) Tool- 10000 Days - Heavy rock (with the emphasis on heavy) but featuring very interesting instrumentations especially in the rhythms of songs which are quite epic (almost all are over 7 minutes long). Enervating stuff.
2) Red Hot Chillies- Stadium Arcadium - amazingly they manage to sustain a very high level of quality over two cds and 24 songs. Their best album in a while.
3) The Raconteurs- Broken Boy Soldiers (?) - Jack White is touched by the hand of god; its conclusive.
4) The Concretes - In Colour - Extremely reminiscent of the Magic Numbers' debut album which is far from a bad thing. A sweet summery sort of album full of pure pop nuggets.
5) Muse - The Origins of Symmetry - though Ive got/heard most of the songs on this strangely I never got round to buying it till now. Has more than stood the test of time.
Have ordered: The Jarvis Cocker newie, Jet's Shine on, The Blinding EP by Babyshambles and Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.

First off, the homosexual thing, I didn't say it mattered, I just said I was shocked to hear he was gay. Majority of the worlds best selling artists are.
As for U2 being the best band In the world, well that's my opinion.
IMO they're 2nd to The Beatles. I love Radiohead, Seen them live, experience of a life time for me, I'll never forget being on me mates shoulders admiring them belt out paranoid android. But, I don't think there quite in U2's league, yet.

1) I know exactly where you re coming from mate - I too am passionate and cannot for the life of me understand eg how the hell there are still people who like things like Bon Jovi ... but still, calling U2 crap is a bit too much.
Whats wrong with Bon Jovi?
I think they are fantastic, and i have seen them live and they do put in a very good performance. Its a mixed bag though, they are very varied, so surely there is some that you like?

Going London with my grandad on Sunday. I went Oxford Street a few weeks back, each floor at Virgin and HMV is at least twice the size of a usual store, and there's 2 floors  So hardly a shortage to choose from lol.
Thinking of buying Snow Patrol as that looks pretty good :) Seen there's a new Kaiser Chiefs album out soon as well. Any albums people can recommend to me? Basically not urban or emo, anyone mentions something like Jay Z (that's zed not zee :p) or My Chemical Romance I'll ring their necks :p

There music is a mix of some thrash metal, black metal, death metal, classical music and acoustics and chill out music, most of the songs have this really spooky feel to them, espcailly on still life.
If your going to look into them i'd recommend starting with "Ghost Revieres" there last album, or Damnation, also Blackwater park.
If you try albums like morganise, orchid or my arms your hearse without knowing what opeth are like it may put you off them, as those albums are very very heavy

Buying cds from high street shops Virgin, Tower and especially HMV is not very clever imho as they are overpriced. You talk about London where for example off Oxford Street and about 10 minutes walk from the HMV there lies Berwick Street which has two shops particularly where you ll find most cds at least a couple of pounds cheaper than in the abovementioned behemoths: Selectadisc and Sister Ray.
Also at Covent garden theres the Rough Trade shop off Neal's yard.

I don't really have an opinion on the best new "indie" band around. I don't like the word indie and if it means what lots of people assume it to mean, I think it's gone stale and I don't really like new indie anymore.

They have no stage presence and I didnt think they sounded particularly tight at times

I'm downloading the leaked albums of The View and Jamie T  I don't know why really, I'm pretty sure that they're going to be terrible, but I love being surprised. I'll let you know how they are, know there's some fans on here.
Please do, I like what I've heard of Jamie T and The View. Been scouting about for there albums past few days.

Good on ya lad. I got sent the promo copy of Jamie T - Panic Prevention album the other day and tell ya what mate it's a serious grower! On first listen I wasn't all that keen (apart from a few tracks that I already knew) but I think that it's kinda like The Streets, on first listen you think "what the hell is this tripe", but after a couple of listens then it's quality.
I think that you've got to be in the right mood though. I tried listening to it at work the other afternoon - couldn't get into it. Last night I popped it on after coming home from a Curry & Beer doo with the Football Club and couldn't get enough.
The missus wasn't too keen at 12:30 when I bowled in half cut, whacked on ProEvo, and being woken up to Jamie T

This morning I've been listening to Band of Horses - American alt-rock band on Sub Pop records - really good stuff.
Their album came out this year and while it missed out on my top 40 of the year it's certainly worth a listen, especially 'The Funeral' - you won't be disappointed.

Its the album of 2007 so far for me,
I cant imagine many albums will beat this...
Possibly Arcade Fire and Patrick Wolf may be as good
I love the way with Bloc Party there isnt one stand out song as the best, with Silent Alarm my favourite song changes regularly and already with A Weekend In the City my favourite has gone from being Waiting for the 7.18 to Hunting For Witches

Saying that the album is really good. I'm looking foward to a Maccabees album in the new year and maybe a Babyshambles one??

Its awesome, I think the first track 'Song For Clay (Disappear here)' is a perfect opener, it just jumps out at you and says ''We are Back''.
I really thought it would take me more time to get into it, but that hasn't been the case, got back from the boozer last night an put it on pumping for a pal, (pumping because that's how you have to listen to bloc party), he loved 'the prayer'.
Just listening to Athlete this morning whilst nursing my head.

I'd normally say yes,
However its an absolutely amazing album, I am slightly biased towards Bloc Party because they are probably my favourite band (who are still going)
i just got the Metric - Live It Out album, its good
Give it a few more listens and it should be a cracker
I just need to start listening to Broken Social Scene more (because Emily Haines from metric was in BSS)

There's been this song played on XFM a few times, it's about a bloke giving up drink for his family I think ... it's something along the lines of ''I promised my family I wouldn't drink'' although I don't think they're the actual words :) And help my lovely ladies?

Got some of the Cold War Kids music - they were "the next big thing" in the US for about five minutes this year - listen to 'We Used to Vacation' and 'Hospital Beds', both very good. Yes, there's hints of Maroon 5 type of singing in there, but it's a bit heavier backing than that.
Listening to Christmas music today of course, especially my favourite Christmas tune of all time, Darlene Love's '(Christmas) Baby Please Come Home' (from the classic 'A Christmas Gift to You from Phil Spector' album).
If you don't know the song, watch Gremlins on the telly tomorrow afternoon at 4.05pm - it's the tune over the opening credits!

Right, i listen to everything and like all the good stuff, most notably Red Hot Chilli's and Linkin Park, as well as the obvious Queen and etc. etc.
However, i want to find some new decent bands along the lines of Linkin Park and Disturbed, that kinda music. Getting bored of all the Indie **** now and what some rock! Anyway, i've had a look around, on last.fm etc and can't really find anything.
A band like Cold would be lush, i recommend them, they are immense.
