I highly recommend you save your 4G 222S and not bother with the Player Mount, they are only slightly faster than Hunter's Speed and you cannot do ANYTHING other than ride whilst mounted, if you need to sell stuff, dismount- are you sure?-err..yes!, get wood, dismount- are you sure?-err..yes!... They are nowhere near as fast as the Stable Vendor Horses and they don't even have Saddlebags! (Extra Inventory Slots)
They may be better for the other Classes without speed, but what a waste of time for a Hunter, save your cash Hunters! Hell, if you could name them or do tricks on them it would be a little something towards that wasted cash.
I can't even Auction it off as it's Bound to me, and sell back is 1G something :(
What a load of Horse-$£*%!

Your recommendation is noted.
However, hunter's speed is still slower then the horse and as everyone else is on a horse... you get the picture I'm sure. I hate being behind because of lag, let alone because of something I can do something about.
Another advantage is that you don't dismount as soon as you're engaged, contraty to the hunter's speed, which drops if a mobs as much as glares naughty at you.
4 gold (and some silver) is a big investment, but worth it in the long run. Besides if you ave bought a horse you have to option to use it or not. I'll be using the horse when getting to places and the skill when scouting places.

Hunters need horses as much as anyone when you get to higher levels. Angmar is huge and has 1 stable and 3 graveyards, walk if you want, but to me it was 4g well spent (And I was very cynical to start with).
Anyway, once you have a horse 4g is about 3 hours farming dwarf-iron ore on Snowbourne.

you know if you have the hunter speed buff on before mounting, your horse gets the speed buff right?....just thought id point that ;)

That IS with the Speed Buff! Race a Hunter on foot with Speed and you on Mount with Speed, I'd say it was 5% Faster if that, worth 4+G?

dude you either have a really slow horse, a really fast hunter or your just not that great with percentages, but there is a bigger difference in speeds that you say there is.
That aside, think of somewhere like angmar or the misty mountains, where there are no horses to rent to get around and only 1 or two places to set your map to, if you're in a fellowship and everyone has a horse except you and you have to get to the other side of the map it is going to take you a good deal longer to travel => having a horse = useful.
If you do use the horses you rent you are spending cash each time you do, if you're in the game for more than a month or so you'll probably have spent 4G on travelling, so you might as well have just bought a horse cause when youve been in game a year or more, you are going to have SAVED A LOT of money by buying a horse.
In my opinion they are worth it and I would advise everyone to get one, regardless of class or race, but each to their own.

Well i can see only one solution!
NERF HUNTERS SPEED!
only joking but im quessing you just came from WoW where you had a stack of epic mounts and 2 flying ones... if not then i dunno what your complaining for... Think not of the horse as slighty faster over short distances but much faster over long distances. Of course if yer gonna stop every time ya see wood or ore yer not gonna go very fast at all. The game is new, very new. In time I think they'll be better horses in other colours than brown, off brown and brownish brown.

BUFF HUNTERS SPEED!
Fixed. :D
I also play EQ2 where players (with the right 'traits' and buffs) can get a 45% speed buff *coughs*
My hunter's speed buff feels like I'm walking by comparison ;)

As a hunter from Rohan it is sad for me to reach level 35 (yesterday) and still have to walk around due to insufficient funds. The horse is quite a bit faster than the hunter buff as I have been parked every time.
If the horse pays off in the long run is not an issue for me. I need a horse as soon as possible, and on the long runs from Bree to Trollshaws I am confident that I can save significant time. If the money spend could be better spent on stable-horses is up for discussion, but as a proud Rohirrim it is wrong to walk around.

Still, I find horses should be as fast as "hired" ones. Or they should put different types of horses (faster and slower ones with their appropriete price)
And for the speed buff...I think Hunters have the best speede buff of all classes.

I think in a future expansion there will probably be faster mounts introduced but the game is but a few months old...

Indeed this is very likely, as people have been calling out for more variety in mount patterns/colours too. Plus they have the whole option of developing the mounted fighting mechanic (not sure if they will though), which could be themed with the Rohan expansion. :)

You all are forgetting one of the best things about a mount...... NO FALLING PENALTY :)
If you ride over a cliff and fall down you can continue with no speed reduction at all :)

Say goodbye to that after Thursday.
Oh, and no one has mentioned the fact that when you aggro a mob while riding, and it is not a range attacker, you have a very good chance to not be dealt damage at all. This is very important in some routes that lower level characters haven't seen yet. Gath Forthnir anyone?

really? theyve fixed the falling thing? damn! i use that a lot, especially in the ettenmoors when fleeing :P
and yes the ride to gath forthnir is just plain evil, very very difficult without a horse.

That's strange, they have included this trait so soon? Wonder when they will add the feature and mounds though?

wonderfull, so everyone that got the game nice and early (be it release or pre release or whatever) and has bought a mount already is gonna have to buy another one if they want the best where as people that get it later on will only have to spend money once? I really hope when they implement these new mounts it will be something like x amoutn of g plus the trade in of your horse, that way every player new or old has to spend exactly the same amount to get one.

I could be wrong, but I think you're in for a shock mate. My estimate (Based on the fact that most ideas in lotro map closely to those in the 3 letter game) is that the advanced mount will cost 100g and only be available to level 50 - anyone want to take bets ;) . So the 4g 220s you paid for the current one will kind of pale into insignificance.

What else is there to do when we hit 50 ;) At least this will give us something meaningful to grind for

You have to take into account the fact that our currency is 1g=1.000 silver, so it will definitely be less than 100g.
50 is very close. Deeds, crafting, Ettenmors, Carn Dum will keep us occupied for quite some time. Expect to see a lot of 50s running around Shire with bags of mail and pies :)

From (distant) memory, WoW standard mount was 40g, epic 900g. Applying this ratio to 4g 220s gives 94g 950s - hence my guesstimate of 100g as a nice round figure. To make life fun I'm going to powerlevel all my alts to 50 so I have a reason to grind 500g :D

youve been smoking to much weed
mount is way way faster than our speed buff and fully worth the 2hours or so it takes to farm the 4g for one, running around angmar would be a nightmare
the second flaw is that as soon as u get in combat u loose the run buff, u dont loose a mount until u get 1 hit by an uruk archer, again traveling around in angmar if u avoid the archers u can still be mounted and have a dozem mobs trailing after u
and for speed buff working on a mount, i timed myself between two locations with and without the buff and it made no difference

Read the tool ti on the hunter buff .... RUN SPEED ... not mounted speed
now jump off a cliff and get the speed debuff ... notice it debuffs run speed and mount speed ... shock could it be that those are independant of each other? what ever made you think that they stacked?
