Sorry if i write this in english, but i wanted to ask this to dutch people.
A lidl's has just opened in my town. So i was wondering, is it a discount shop even in Germany, or is it a high quality one there? Because the prices are very low, but i find the quality is good (for foreign food).

They treat their employees badly, so I don't buy from them. Quality is acceptable but far from good. (The meaning of "good" of course depends on how much money you're willing to spend on food too.) I would never buy meat there.

About cappucino i don't mind. I live in Italy, and buy italian food from high quality italian shops :D :p .
But i was wondering: since the foreign food i bought there was very good, how better is the food you find in your high quality shops?

Its a super low quality discounter. They sell bad stuff for low prices - imagine WalMart, devide those guy's quality and variety by at least two and there you have LIDL. You wouldnt get me into those stores, ever.
Just check their soda offerings, they dont even sell the regular, recycleable Coke bottles.

I strongly disagree with almost every single reply I read here.

Lidl is 100% cheap crap and only broke and/or stingy people would buy there.

Also Lidl is known to maintain about the worst conditions of employment among all german discounters. Not that this affects their product quality or that I'd care about other people's misery.

Anyway, if you want to buy half decent food in germany you'll probably want to visit Kupsch, Minimal (now called Rewe, but don't be fooled, the original Rewe are pretty crappy too), Karstadt, Spar (just don't buy their own products), Edeka or maybe even Walmart (though their stores often leave a pretty foul impression).
Well you might want to buy your Kellogs family packs at Aldi and I have to admit that some discount stores have cheap branded goods that you'd also find and buy in good stores. But for the most part the quality is below average. That is, you don't want to buy meat or cheese or other fresh goods at Lidl (or any other discounter for that matter).

Regarding your question about the price difference. It's about two to three times as expensive to buy at a decent store.

If you're after really good food you'll want to find some local store that is specialized in whatever they sell.

Edit: oh and yes Plus is pretty okay (and cheap) too. I forgot to mention that. It's somewhat between the good ones listed above and the cheap Lidl, Norma, Aldi crap.

Lidl is ok,but don't expect " Hight Quality Food ".

And don't call a German "Dutch", this is an insult.

Agree. One other thing I dislike with the verrry low price dicounters is that you can't get everything there in a good quality, let's say coffee. So you just have to check out other stores, as well, and buying everydays stuff in, let's say, two or three different markets makes no sense to me.

Right now I'm bound to buy at REWE oder EDEKA, they're not as cheap as Plus, but it's okay and I wouldn't really save that much money (and no time at all ;)) driving down the way to the next Plus market.

That's how it goes ... for me ;)

still on the sunny side,

M.

I see. Well, in effect also here in Italy prices are double or triple the ones at lidl. Now i really wish to try high quality german food ^^, as i've only been 1 day in monaco where i ate good quality food there ^^.
Actually, here in Italy, if you really want the best quality food, you need to go to small shops, or even go to the country and buy 100% natural food.
And why is dutch an offense? Could you explain? As my English is not very good.

Well Lidl sells no " HIGH Quality German Food " 80% of the Products are from Italy,Spain or Eastern Europe.
Only things i buy at Lidl is Dr.Oetker Pizza and Chicken Filets from Herta. Lidl sells these brand products at the cheapest price so i buy 10 of each at a time.I would never ever buy anything else there. Their vegetables look like they are 10 years old.

Dutch= Netherlands and they suck at least at football =).

The vegetable sold by Lidl is toxic. They use a lot of pesticides. You shouldn't buy or even eat it.
