View Full Version : Melee Specials v Dual Wield

I've been looking at the damage I can do with Dual Wield and what the specials do. With swift blow it does main hand +X. But that's near enough to what I would do with both weapons attacking. I'm level 24 now, but I figure there has to be a point where my second hand weapon will be doing more damage than is worth the special attacks.

Has anyone figured this out?

I mainly use dual weapons to boost my Agility.

2 pcs. Gondorian Sword with +16 Agility on each = +32 Agility is a most welcome addition :)

The best part is that Gondorian Swords is sold for 25-50s buyout on Snowbourne so they are easy to get :)

only use melee specials in between auto attacks after you get dual wield
it doesnt slow down your auto attacking since most specials are instant.

I use scourging blow to do lots of damage after a successful barbed arrow, and low cut when fleeing/moving/facing multiple foes. Apart from that I don't see the benefit in using them.

i dont even bother with barbed arrow anymore

The sword styles aren't interruptable.

Swift bow, barbed arrow and quick shot all got a cast time. Trying to shoot swift arrow with more then 2 enemies hitting you is a pain....
There are bow shots that aren't interruptable ofcourse (penetrating shot for on) but those require focus.

Additional to that, melee damage depends on might and with everyone trying to get as much agility as possible might gets left behind. Ask a dual wielding champion or burglar what damage they do without styling and then compare it to your own.

So far I've bought nothing, just used quest rewards, because of that I havent done the math on this so feel free to correct me , but there are quite a few weapons with +1% crit, which looks a bit more useful than +16 agi as isnt that only about .3% crit? Obviously Agi does more than just add crit bonuses, but as a nuker crit has to be a major consideration.

Yes correct, the only downside is that if you use a dagger with +1% crit, it only applies to the attack done by melee, the dagger and NOT to the bow skill (actually it adds like 0.1% to bow also).

So if you want +1% crit, you should use bows with +1% .... and then it only applies to auto-attack, NOT to your skill attack. Skill attack crit is only affected by Fate and Agility I think)

But +16 gives you more main range damage, better evation and more crit (+0.3% I think) and so on.

Ah, ok, thought I checked it a while ago and the melee weapons added to total crit, but as my sig says, I'm nearly senile ;)

Two levels away from Duel - Wielding and i can't wait. I use the special melee attacks in between the auto attacks.

How do you check this Riffie? There's only one crit figure on the char screen and it goes up and down by 1% when I move my daggers in and out, is there a separate bow figure I'm missing?
