Simple really - Codemasters copped out and made it mostly for the console (joypad users) market (PS2s and XBoxes pfft) so the game has to be playable for them - the PC users, upon whose backs Codemaster's success has been built, have forsaken the audience that made them. Typical of what happens in the corporate world these days ...

To clarify, I have a PS2 and XBox which I never use, and a PC that never goes a day without being used for gaming

I found it very disappointing to play V8 Race Driver because even though a new dimension (story) has been added to the genre, the most important part is seriously lacking for the serious gamer .. the driving!!! With a wheel playing the game is diabolical. CMR2 & CMR3 are much better by comparison for PC Wheel users.

IMHO Grand Prix 2 is the benchmark for racing games, and nothing has yet equalled the balance achieved by that game for challenge / fun that it managed so many years ago.
