Is anyone else out there running a Radeon X800 GTO card, and having problems?

Game seems to play find, then i turn a corner/open a door/open a quest window, and then:

1. Game freezes.
2. Screen flickers, and comes back to the game.
3. Little message box pops up saying "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands".

It'll stand to do this 3 times, on the 3rd time, the screen stays black, and you get a system error box saying Directx9c is no longer responding, which results in me having to reboot.

I've got the latest directx (9c). Tried a clean uninstall using drivercleaner.net and the latest radeon drivers (7.4), even done tried older version of the drivers (someone suggested 6.12 were more stable).

There are some suggestions on the US forums that the card could be over-heating but it doesn't seem to be, and this is the only game i've had issues with.

I know this is more likely a card/driver problem than an issue with the game as such, but it's driving me nuts, so i wondered if anyone else had encountered it?

To be honest the reason for this (apart from drivers) is most commonly the temperature the card gets up to (specifically the GPU).

Catalyst Control Panel has a temperature indicator in the Overclocking section - keep an eye on this. I had an X800 Pro and it would crash if the temperature rose above about 75 degrees. Alhough less than 65 is healthy.

You might like to try cleaning the fan and make sure it is rotating ok, also check that your case fans are workin fine. Reseating the card may help too, in case its a power issue. Always use anti-static protection when handling components in the PC.

I'm getting this same issue with an X700 card.

Initially I thought it might have been something to do with the game resolution being different from the desktop for whatever reason, but then again after the GPU recover has reset the desktop resolution I've still gone on to experience 2 consecutive GPU recoveries.

Which version of Catalyst drivers are you running? It might be as well to move to Catalyst 7.4 if you can.

You can try going into the lotro folder in My Documents and editing UserPreferences.ini and setting AllowFakeFullScreen=False, the set SyncToRefresh=True

Downloaded the 7.4 drivers today, will try putting them on tommorow to see if it makes any difference or not.

Cheers for the advice on the preferences file, I'll give them ago and see if it makes any difference as well.

HI, thanks for the reply. :) The X800 GTO Catalyst Control Panel doesn't seem to have an overclocking section... looked through all the advanced tabs, but it doesn't seem to be there. Can you point me in the right direction (in case i'm being thick, and just can't find it) or do you know of any external apps that'll check the card temp?

Running 7.4 drivers at the moment.

Are you running Catalyst Control Panel in advanced mode? If you are then the Overclock section is the bottom option on the left.

Thanks again, still not seeing it though... Screenshot below.

However... I did make the UserPreferences.ini changes, and set AllowFakeFullScreen=False and SyncToRefresh=True, and i've just played for over an hour without any VPU Recover, or other graphics glitches... So fingers crossed, that seems to have fixed it! :D

Thanks again. :)

Thats how my CCC looks as well.

Just installed the new drivers now so will see how I come on before I make the preference changes. :)

Just an update to confirm, been playing all afternoon without any VPU errors, so looks like the UserPreferences.ini changes did it. :)

Thanks for the help khazneh, it was driving me nuts. :)

Edit: Oh, and i've whacked the graphics, up to high and it's running smooth and looking beautiful! :D

This will help
a) Click on the Windows Start button and select 'Run'. In the 'open' box enter "msconfig" (without the speech marks).
b) In the general tab click on 'selective startup'
c) Now click on the startup tab (the last tab at the top of the msconfig screen) and UNtick everything EXCEPT 'systray' and 'scanregistry' (if they appear. If they do not, don’t worry).
d) Now close msconfig, you will be prompted to re-start your PC. Select 'Restart'
e) When the PC has re-booted, you will see a box with System Configuration Utility as its title. Tick the checkbox and then click on OK.
f) Now try the game again.
as well lover grahic in game and tick sync refresh on this also work for x800 Pro
