Interesting idea for a forum!

For me CMR2 for PC is the shining star, not for the graphics - when your racing hard you dont even notice them, and not for the damage modelling either, but for the multiplay.

Im not going to mention CM3 or even 4 here, but was just wondering how many other ppl are still giving this oldie a good working out.

Yes both me and my dad still play CMR2. The Network Multiplayer mode is good.

Come to think of it, he still plays CMR1 at times as well....

Yeah, CMR2 on a LAN (or 2/3 over the Internet) is a HUGE blast. Shame about CMR3.......

Man, I don't know where to begin.
I'm a big fan of cmr1 and cmr2 and was anxiously awaiting cmr3 like a lot of people around here. What a dissapointment the pc demo was!
I wrote Codemasters and told them of my troubles with a gamepad etc. They responded quickly but with the "it's just the demo" generic response. I was getting nervous thinking the game better be a lot better than the demo indicated. The next day they released the rather large demo patch that fixed my gamepad steering problem but I figured I would just wait for the game to be released to see how it would improve on CMR2. In the meantime I got an Xbox for Fathers daay and a New CMR3 game for it plus some others. I'm happy as a clam. I figure I'll get the pc version of cmr3 and have the Xbox too, yay! Well I'm pleased to say the Xbox version of Cmr3 is good, much better than the pc demo was indicating. If the pc version was as good as the x box I would get it and live with it. But from reading everyone here and at other places it confirms my surprise and dissapointment with cmr3 for the pc.
I'm lucky to have an Xbox to play #3 with but I'm shocked at Codemasters move regarding CMR3. By the way on the xbox #3 has the longest load times of any of the 7 games I have so far. The sound cuts out sporadicaly for a second or 2 and a least 8 times the game has failed to move on with the error "the disc is either didrty or damaged" which it is neither but after wiping it and restarting CMR3 it will move on. I'm just finishing Spain and the game is ok but I'm totally underwelmed by the whole CMR3 thing.
I just got through installing cmr2 on both of my pc's and playing a nice little lan competition with my son. CMR2 is great and runs fine on our 2 boxes. Box 1= 1.2ghz Tualatin,512mb ram,Windows xp,gf4 ti 4200. Box 2=P3 850 XP,384 ram gf4 ti 4200 etc. All details maxed out for cmr2 including #10 draw distance on both.
Long Live CMR2

CMR2 is still not a shabby game, certainly keeping in mind what CMR3 became (ie not that good in the eyes of some people, despite high review scores across the board). I don't play it so often now, it's just so hard to adjust to a PSone game these days and in fairness it could do with a freshening up for 2004. Let's hope Version 4 provides that.

Edit: Ack, you lot are talking about the PC version. Nonetheless, I do have a copy of that also (dedicated that I am) and same comments apply really.

I have been playing CMR3 demo on PC for a while and it's OK, I plan to buy the game, but so far as i've seen it's not as fun as CMR2. What I would really like to see would be a new version of CMR2 for PC pack it full of new cars and longer tracks no other changes are needed. I don't think that it would cost codemasters much to do it and it wouldn't bring you the headaches that versions 3&4 have. I don't know about anybody else but I would pay $35 for a new version of 2 :D

I totally agree...
I would pay even more!!! cmr2 was pure fun and I still play it a lot.
Actually I prefer cmr2 though I got #3

CMR2 still rules, especially when you can run it with all the settings at the maximum and with all the current WRC machinery. The clarity of the graphics are nearly as good as the PS2 version of CMR3. Championships are a great source of competition for those that are bored with beating the AI players by a minute on expert level in CMR2.
