...sick of the complaining and bashing of this game? I know I am. No one ever wants to look at the positives of the game. On that note, I recently bought and downloaded OFP2 off of steam last night and played for about 2 hours. The gameplay I experince consisted some of COOP, Annihilation(16vs16), and single player missions.
AI- Everyone seems to be saying how bad it is and buggy. All of which I think can be patched up in a jiffy. Also from my experince, the AI kicked my *** in normal difficulty. Me and my buddy playing Coop were impressed because the AI actually bugged off, and we thought we had killed them. Turns out our frag didn't hit them, and they flanked us as we got close to our objective. needless to say, we died lol. There was another incident where I had been shooting enemy AI that were crouching behind a sandbag. I thought I had eliminated all opposition and I moved up toward the sandbags and sure enough a guy laying down and shot me as I got close. They weren't lying when they said "Check if your target is dead, he may just be laying there wounded". I also remember when I had eliminated 2 out of a 3 man force, the last one turned tail and started running away. One of the only problems I see with AI is sometimes they're like supergods. I'm having a hell of a time spotting targets and my guys are like.. 200M South, rifleman. It's like WTF? YOU CAN SEE THAT WELL? I haven't gotten a chance to fight the AI upclose and personal. Sadly everytime AI got within 50 meters of me, they suppressed me hard and I could barely see as I was hit by one or more of those bullets.
Graphics- Stunning. As many reviewers have said before, it truely is amazing. The immersion was insane too. All of the "fogs of war" were amazing. There was an instance where a helicopter was coming to pick us up for extraction and I was impressed by the "wind" or "particles" near the helicopter as it neared the ground. All explosions were amazing as well. Planting C4, frags, Anti-tank and artillery. Just blew me away. After the artillery strike on a village, I went into the village to see that they actually had destroyed buildings and structures within the artillery zone. I noticed the blood and gore a bit here and there. I was just speechless as I had used a sniper rifle in close range to eliminate a target and his skull had been blown out the back of his head (as you've all heard and seen). I have yet to see any limbs being blown off a soldier, but I'm sure that'll come soon enough. It's usually hard to appreciate the gore CM put into it because you're usually 100-300meters out from your target. The only problem I'm having with graphics is my computer can't handle the high settings while maintaining good frame rates. However my buddy had no problem, he had about 60 frames with everything set to the max.
Sounds - GOOD GOD. With these sounds, you really do start to panic when you're getting shot at and your buddy is hit. I remember I was in a building and the sound of the bullets hitting the walls sounded so realistic and it really did make me jump in my seat. As far as the audio goes, there is NO PROBLEMS at all. Anyone that does say there is, they're just nit-picking. It's by far the best audio aspect of a FPS that I've ever had a chance to play. The only drawback I see regarding audio is the Voice Chat is sometimes too low or low quality to understand people. Mainly because all of the explosions and shots fired, it's hard to listen lol. It crossed my mind to turn down audio, so I can hear people better but that's just not allowing yourself to be fully immersed into your environment. Audio is too damn good to turn down!
Animations - I saw some good stuff out there. I was IN LOVE with the proning, crouching, standing animations. It makes you feel like you're heavy and can't be superman and fly off the ground. Also vaulting over gates was awesome too because you can hear how heavy you are as you go over it and as you land, it takes time to regain your footing seeing as you're wearing 50+ LBs of gear. I think there was some animations that weren't working properly, when people were applying their field dressing I saw the guy standing there completely straight with his arms at his sides. My buddy said to me when I got out my epipen out and applied to an injured soldier, it looked realistic he said. (I was the medic) I didn't get a chance to see any animations as far as entering and leaving vehicles but I was very happy with being able to actually SIT in a seat if it's empty. Also when I got out of the car in a hurry, the door flung open and stayed open for a certain amount of time. I'm unsure how long because I had ridden into the belly of the beast and died

. NO RAMBO STUFF! The reloading and handling of the weapons are awesome as well. People complaining about recoil are durka durka because let's assume you're a trained soldier and you've shot loads of rounds in training. I think the soldier can handle his rifle quite well, hence the CRAZY recoil after one shot. The most I've shot in real life is a .45 pistol, so I can't say entirely that they're 100% Accurate on the recoil or whatever but in my point of view; the recoil is fine. One highlight with animations was.. If you played AA3, When sprinting and going prone or whatever, you do a slide. OFP Had that too! WOOT!
Singe player - Seeing as I am not necessairly EXPERINCED yet; I had a hell of a time getting use to the controls at first. I mean, they have the usual wasd, e use key blah blah. but they add alot more to ur keybindings and I had to look up a couple of times which keys did what. Without a doubt though, that's a good thing! I don't know about you but I'm sick of the 5 keybindings needed to play FPSs. I most likely sucked horribley but the command reticle thing for your squad was a bit confusing at first for me as well. It's very effective though; You can really give commands within 2 seconds once you get the hang of it. It is a day-saver sometimes because those quick orders can be the diffrence between 2 men down, or a full squad completeing the mission with no casualities.
Multiplayer- Let me start by saying, yes; there is a hefty amount of lag for now in multiplayer. I think once some dedicated servers come in though, all those other FPSs will never be able to mirror OP2's Multiplayer experince. As far as COOP goes, it's AWESOME. For now it's the highlight of OFP2. I only had 2 buddies while trying coop but I could imagine, you and 3 other buddies of yours could get pretty freakin tactical and have a time of your life. I recommend starting the game playing COOP after u get the hang of the controls. It truely does enrich the game experince when you're working with real players instead of AI. It just makes doing missions so much more suspensful and exciting. No one wants to die, which is why you all must work as a team to complete the mission. My definition of awesome! lol. Now for Annihilation which, as usual, everyone is crazy about. I found it quite enjoyable because there were so many targets, it felt as if an all out war. Instead of group of 3 guys here and there. It was a good old fashion war. 16vs16 with bots on either side. This meant LOADS of action for every player. Sometimes I was a bit confused where I was getting shot from but that's war for ya. Getting killed without knowing where your target was is sometimes annoying but I guess it's up to the player to overcome that. Strangely enough, I didn't lag during annihilation but only during COOP. Might just be coincidence though.
Overall I think OFP

R is pretty awesome compared to other FPS games. My guess for people being distasteful with it as far as reviews is, this game doesn't share the same usual gameplay all FPSs do. This is a new brand of FPS. This is fully tactical and it isn't for the usual Call of Duty players that run around and "own" everyone. With that being said, my personal rating of the game would have to be a 9/10. The reason I rate it pretty high is because PEOPLE: THE GAME JUST CAME OUT LIKE YESTERDAY/TODAY. RELAX! patches will come, i'm sure of it. CM put in a crapload of time and effort into this game despite what people may think. There's no way they're just going to make it and hope they make profit. They're gonna patch it until the players are happy. Give it time people. There's many people saying SAVE YOUR MONEY, DONT BUY IT, IT SUCKS. I think it's just a matter of expectations and experince. I've played all COD Series and many other FPSs, my expectations for OFP was an actual realistic shooter; it met that expectation. When I said experince, I meant what was the first experince you've had when you started playing. For example; if you start playing and you right away start seeing some AI Bug out, you're going to start looking down on the game. However I had an amazing experince, hence why my opinion varies from any others who have reviewed it. If you think YOU'RE WASTING money by buying this game; then I have news for you. Operation Flashpoint

ragon Rising is the FIRST of it it's kind. It may not be on the band-wagon with all other FPSs but this bad boy will leave an impression of your definition of FPSs. Despite everyone saying don't buy it, I bought it and I'm very happy I did. I'll never forget the realism I witnessed, and experince I had playing this game. AWESOME!
As always, I understand not all of you will agree. Please hold your tongue when you feel the need to lash out and call me ignorant or any other insults. It was just my honest review thus far. I may add more when I get home, I have a class to attend for the moment. I'll answer some questions if I can regarding gameplay. Take care.
